‘I don’t think she understands quite the concept of chivalry’ – U.S Political Commentator Dana Loesch on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

U.S Political Commentator Dana Loesch in her weekly appearance on Fox & Friends, was shown a clip of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‘s take on chivalry while on The Daily Show, and asked to share her thoughts.

Dana after watching the video said that Chimamanda doesn’t quite understand the concept of chivalry suggesting that she should be more concerned about her country (Nigeria) which ranks top in the world for female genital mutilation.

She said:

I don’t think she understands quite the concept of chivalry, which was a code of conduct for gentleman. With all due respect to her, and I’m familiar with her, I think it’s a luxury of third-way feminism to complain about holding doors open for people where her country, Nigeria, it ranks top in the world for female genital mutilation, which I think is far more of a disservice to women and far more suppressive than someone courteously opening the door for someone else.

This was my point exactly, chimamanda has deep rooted issues that she needs to sort out personally, as stephanie commented there are more serious issues women are facing and some of these issues are not only caused by men, some by religion, some by age, some by tribe etc dont sum them to be on men alone, gosh women be careful of her.

Please is this woman’s response more than what I listened to or is there more? Because I’m not understanding the ‘ebu’ or ‘ela’ o.
Before I type my epistle, can I let y’all know that all Fox News ‘contributors’ are hacks? Like all you need is enough hate in your heart and you’re going to be the expert on the panel on why Obama is a moslem from Kenya. If not please go and look for this woman’s resume.

Okay now, so anyone with half a brain and familiar with this news network knows that NOTHING they ever say about women or people of color makes sense. CNA is a black woman, so I find it interesting that you guys are gingered by their comments. Like, surprise surprise, a FN presenter tried to diss Chimamanda and Nigeria?! Oh wait wait, is the sky blue too?! ?????? lol, I guess you amplify the validity of whatever you want to hear in your head sha.
Hmmn, Fox News talking about women’s rights? ???? apart from the many sexual assault and harassment cases they’ve had to settle (tens of millions at this point) in the past year, do y’all know that the women on their shows are not allowed to wear pants?! Yup! In America, there’s an institution that dictates that the women have to conform to what they think is the ideal woman’s image… meanwhile they just want those women showing their legs to ‘conservative’ America ni o!
So is it one of brainwashed women that has her sold her basic rights for a tv gig that CNA will now feel burnt by? Hian! Y’all should shift! I know people think anything from oyinbo mouth is superior and the law but common! The silliness of this one is super obvious. Next.

What have you done to stop it or even to make your immediate environment better? You’re here crowing like jackals, mtcheeew. This is why people hardly champion any cause in Nigeria. Those people you think you’re fighting for will be the first to turn around and attack you and talk smack about you. This is not just a slight on CNA,it is a slight on Nigeria. If you don’t know, know it now. So pissed.

Well it’s a known fact that a lot of Nigerians are bigots and extremists, from religious fanaticism to tribalism and cap it up with homophobia…. all you have to do is change tribalism to racism and there you have your average Faux News contributor and listener. So color me shocked that this depraved bag of bones agrees with the ‘backlash’ CNA got from Nigerians.

Female genital mutilation is not something to score points with but we all know this old hag and her masters definitely have no shame or boundaries so I don’t expect better.
Oh and the racist shade! despite what y’all think, 3rd world or not, we can walk and chew gums at the same time… addressing patriarchy at every level is goal here. Keep showing your asses on tv and suppressing your women, that’s why 3rd world countries like Rwanda have more agency than in your amazing first world.

    • Ndy

Old hag because of an opinion? also Patriarchy doesn’t consider opening doors for females as a normal thing to do. Think about that.

      Thank you.

And Nigerians will jump on what she said, not realizing Danai is serving her masters, who don’t particularly care about liberals (much less liberal black “foreigners”) speaking about the everyday sexism they espouse. I mean, this is the same group of men who gave us Donald “grab them by the pu**y” Trump, so are we surprised that they don’t support Chimamanda’s notion of chivalry? Nothing new here.

  6. Pat

    June 16, 2018 at 4:17 pm

Chiamamanda was just giving an example with the reference to men opening door. Anything she says is aalways blown out of content. The bigger picture she advocates for is women empowerment and acess to similar resources as well so they can be self sufficient.

    • Pat

      June 16, 2018 at 4:32 pm

And besides, Chiamamanda has talked about female gential mutilation many times. This is the same presenters that when Trump called in to defend himself of the countless accusations agaist him. They couldn’t even question him they were just nodding it was awkward to watch and CNN put them on blast

I guess it’s a reality check for our flexing sistah, I love her but this commentator has a huge point. Let’s clean up our home first and hold our government accountable. We Nigerians can be very hypocritical in international stage so let’s be humble and mindful when we represent…it’s okay to be chastised and we can do better for Women all over especially in Africa

Chimammanda is busy fighting men, anti men instead to focus her energy on programs to empower girls/women.
Female gentilation, women’s right talk about important crucial issues affecting women.
You see Michelle Obama, Oprah are feminists but their focus is empowering girls and women like building schools so girls can have more opportunities.

      June 17, 2018 at 12:42 am

Let’s be humble? In other words, I take it you mean we should defer to the white man’s opinion of when we speak and when we hold our tongue?

Do you know that black people in the USA were NOT free, during the season that Hitler held Jews captive in concentration camps and America decided to “unlook” the inequality in its own backyard and stand up for the rights of those enslaved white people “in the abroad”? And the very army they sent over the Atlantic ocean to fight the Germans was ITSELF completely segregated along lines of colour?

This said without even raising their current day hypocrisies which keep cropping out of the woodwork. Just trying to make a point here that reality checks are for all countries, not just for the black ones. Not every time oyibo man tells you how to conduct your own affairs that you take it hook, line and sinker.

  8. Olori Tobi

    June 16, 2018 at 5:25 pm

@curious, she didn’t say that. “third-way feminism” doesn’t mean third world country. But me no send all these things again jare. The best way to shut them up is to fix our country, nothing else. Endless debates won’t change their view of us. We need to fix us.

And as an adult, do you. Hold doors for your lady if you want and let your man hold that door for ya. You’ll be shocked Adichie’s hubby holds doors for her. Same way i was shocked to see that her sisters wear the longest human hair/brazillian weaves while she champions natural hair. Maybe they even laugh about all these her strong opinions at home.

    • Randommer

      June 16, 2018 at 7:26 pm

Why are you shocked? Her sisters are adults capable of making their own decisions

    • Olori Tobi

      June 16, 2018 at 9:13 pm

Of course they are adults.. I was shocked simply cos I wasn’t experring it.. I watched a TV interview years ago where she strongly championed afro hair to the interviewer (they almost had an argument), so i assumed she must have converted all around her.. People have changed lifestyles cos of what she says. While her family may not be taking her ideas as personally as the public do. I honestly see them all having a good laugh plus smiling to the bank while people argue on her matter. (Not that it’s bad) After I realized that, me too started laughing about it all, hold door, no hold door, life ain’t that serious.

    • Mama

      June 16, 2018 at 10:36 pm

By your reasoning all the family members of doctors should live a textbook healthy lifestyle and all the relatives and friends of pastors must be born again. We all know that’s not attainable in real life, so I dont understand why you expect Chimamanda’s case to be different. By this same reasoning, we’d expect that Jesus’ brothers would have been his first diciples being that they were up close and personal with all the miracles he performed, but they weren’t. Should that then have invalidated his message to the people of that time? Biko, this woman is human like everyone else. She has her flaws. Her views and opinions are solely those: views and opinions. Anyone can decide to accept and reject them, including her relatives.

    • Jade Edo babe

      June 16, 2018 at 9:42 pm

Abeg, if she is laughing about it at home . Then she should not be banging our head with the same talk all the time. People who talk the most like this are opposite at home. Isn’t that living a double life. I won’t be surprised if she’s the most submissive wife ever and doesn’t even have a voice at home. We’ve seen those narratives more often. Outside is like they compensate for something and are extra defensive
I just wish she will use her feminist platform to truly empower women not questioning, challenging how another woman chooses to live her life but make impact in women’s lives in a productive way

    • Mrs chidukane

      June 17, 2018 at 2:08 am

@ Jade, Making impact, like sharing indomie and bags of rice at motherless babies? That is the type of impact we know. Don’t you know the power in words? You don’t think her words can empower women because she’s not your mummy in the church.

    • Jade Edo babe

      June 17, 2018 at 4:39 pm

      @Mrs chidukane
Abeg, stop embarrassing yourself, and use your brain properly. Action is more powerful than words. Showing, practicing and living by example has always been the best way to get your point across. Talking about opening door as weakness and showing compassion to motherless babies which one will make more difference. Time is the most valuable gift to give someone.
I’ve said it, and I will say it again, Nigerians talk too much with no action to back it up.
We are comfortable with being book smart, using buzz words than using the same brain to be pragmatic. Which is the reason it’s fair to say too many educated fools.
Another reason the country is the mess one is in.

P.S I have nothing personal against CNA. I love her books, “Americanah” is one of my favorite books of all time. But she can use her platform for so much more than just focusing on what men are doing or not doing

    • Mrs chidukane

      June 17, 2018 at 6:45 pm

You are the one who should use her brain properly. Comprehension is clearly lacking because I do not recall during the interview where she said opening the door is weakness. You are clearly protecting your wife material seeing as you are so concerned with her fighting men ,looking at what men are doing etc. When does being a feminist translate to being a man hater,an unruly wife, etc. Please leave us with our buzz words,go and educate yourself.

Mz Daniels, how has she been set up for disgrace? The world and their mother know about problems in Nigeria, so? All this shushing gets on my nerves. Allow the woman to be herself, let her live in and tell her truth. Like she says, everyone must not like you. That is life. Even Jesus wasn’t liked by everyone so who is CNA compared to Jesus?

    • Mz_Danielz

      June 17, 2018 at 7:29 am

Everyone must not like you but does that mean you should rub faeces on yourself? CNA talks too much. Asin, she has a thought and it comes out of her mouth (most times as if she didn’t process it) and we’re supposed to agree with it cos she’s CNA? She has the right to speak, we have the right to disagree. She’s making a huge mockery of feminism and Nigerian females. I like CNA and I love her books so this is not beef, it’s concern. The west sets blacks up to fail a lot of times and so she should be careful. Eloquence is not wisdom.

We used to wait for her to give us epic books but now we’re waiting for epic clap backs from her DVD we can’t see how this hurts her brand?

Eku confidence and wokeness oh. Jisi ike

    • Mrs chidukane

      June 17, 2018 at 6:37 pm

So when she’s asked to speak she should decline so she won’t rub what you term faeces on herself? If you believe she is making a mockery of feminism and Nigerian females, then you are beyond redemption and do not know what feminists before her went through to get the rights we so enjoy today. Anyway, feel free to wallow in whatever it is you’re wallowing in. You will be alright.

Mz Daniel did not attack you, her comments were all directed to CNA, so why do you think it right to attack her by saying she is beyond redemption etc etc. It is this same aggressive attitude/approach that puts people off the whole feminism thing. You can pass your point across without attacking the person. Chill abeg.

Dana is kind of a drama queen, however the topic of FGM will make many people angry. Mix that topic and drama queen it equals her behavior.
It confuses women in the US why it continues, why waste time arguing chivalry.
Women should use their strength and power to erase that practice everywhere across the world.

I am surprised. Linda Ikeji’s commenters had the same reaction as you guys. Loesch ‘s cIomment was a classic rascist Comment. it’s of the Kind “go and patch your mud huts before you join us on TV to discuss marble floors” or “why not talk about getting people enrolled in elementary School before we talk about creating a degree program in Astrophysics?” In other words have you seen marble floors before in y alife to start talking about it or Una don enter elementary 1 before you begin talk about advanced degree.
In Dana’s mind, CNA is a monkey of the lowest order that comes from a place where all they do is mutilate genitals
so how could she possibly have experienced or known about chivalry? we have to be very Careful and understand the premise fora comment. She did not debunk CNA’S position. All she did was try to Strip her of any possible label of exposed, polished, advanced et c in order to delegitimize her. If she did not agree with CNA, she would have directly dissected her comment. Not an overt CNA fan but I’ve interacted enough with racists to know when they don’t have the intellect to go tOe to toe. In those moments, your best bet is to force them back to the substantive matter so that their idiocy can be fully displayed.

That’s a very childish way to counter someone else’s viewpoint, and I can’t believe there were three other adults nodding their heads as she spoke. Anyone who doesn’t think that misogyny in Nigeria, indeed Africa, is a problem worth speaking up for ,should have their heads checked.
Listen to CNA’s TED talk, on Feminism, and tell me she is not fighting a cause!
AWARENESS, is a cause, especially on half of those who cannot speak for themselves !
YOU, critiquing, pick up the genital mutilation. She cannot do everything!
FYI, female mutilation is almost eradicated in Igboland today. May be very few people in remote villages do it and domiciliary widwives / public health workers are on top of it!
    Not rampart anymore!

This pull her down mentality has to stop!
The more you all try, the more she prospers.
I recall reading here in BN, after Chinua Achebe died, how some people were saying that she cannot go further, Achebe was opening doors for her!
    Look at her today!
Man’s ways are not God’s way!
Question: Could CNA, ever get these kinds of accolades she gets overseas, if she is limited only in Nigeria?

Stop hating guys! The more you hate her ,the more ,we her ardent readers love her more!
    Jealousy does not help anyone.
As for the woman asking her to fight female genital mutilation, please know that people make things up for greencard. It is not the center of our lives. You too can fight it. Killing of twins was stopped by a white woman, Why not YOU?

We are tired of awareness raising. All the Twitter feminists are doing it. Someone try something new, something concrete. Doesn’t have to be on a large scale. Small things at home and within your immediate circle. For example, stop validating the actions of men in your lives against woman in the name of it is not my business, it is between them. Someone of us have mothers oppressed and beaten up by our fathers but come Father’s Day, we idolize them like gods.

She makes zero contribution to any foundation or cause (check her Wikipedia page) considering the heightened platform she operates from .Yet yall lap up everything she says as a beckon of light through a dark tunnel.. and anyone who dares to challenge her thoughts is rebuked… it’s a free world and we all do not have to agree on issues .

  22. Michael Chima Ekenyerengozi

    June 18, 2018 at 6:25 pm

There is no need to write epistles on what Dana Loesch said. Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie is not the only highly gifted award winning Nigerian writer in the US, but she is the most attention seeking of them all and more of an impressionist.
Dana Loesch simply said there are more critical issues affecting the lives of girls and women in Nigeria that should be her focus and not parading as a self-glorified champion of feminism in the West which is not our problem. We have widespread cases of female genital mutilation; sex trafficking of Nigerian and African girls and domestic violence against women and more than 4 million underprivileged girls out of school which is the worst case in the world, but Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie is more concerned about why men should not open doors for women?
She is a prize writer and an attention seeker playing to the gallery of her fellow hypocritical liberals supporting femininism, lesbianism, homosexuality and same sex marriage. Her escapist romantic liberalism is useless to her fellow Nigerian women in Nigeria and the Diaspora. Let her focus on our realities and not pandering to the liberalism of American elites. And whenever she is in Nigeria, she has housemaids who don’t go to school.

I think anybody should have the right to talk about whatever they want to… Nobody not even Danai can take that away from Chimamanda. Chimamanda can focus on aything that she decides, that is what make her a feminist, The fact that she decides for herself – not men, not Danai, not anyone!!!

    @Mrs chidukane
You are a joke, just like many feminists out there who only think shouting about it, be internet feminist thugs, complaining about what men are doing is what feminism about. Go re-educate yourselves about the true meaning because people like you gives it a bad name, turned it into man hater fight. Most of these “feminists” are only one when bashing men not when it’s time to come together to help other women become better. I’m protecting wife material for not making a fool of myself? Lol Abeg, you lack emotional maturity. Grow up.
She said, men opening doors is because they saw women as weak. Who cares.
Get involved. Use that time you are using to be internet feminist, anti men to educate yourself how you can be a better feminist.
Go and donate to a good cause(Jhpiego) helping women around the world.

You need a therapist because you have issues. Feminists are not men haters. Men are also feminists.
