In May 2018, Toke Makinwa opened up about her struggle with fibroids, her surgery and her journey to healing.

After her surgery, Toke launched the One Less Woman campaign with the aim of helping fellow women battling with fibroids.

Of the campaign, Toke said, “While I battled fibroids, I never imagined anything good would come out of the pain and then I met some ladies who were about to have their fibroid operations and I instantly knew that my pain had purpose.  It was worth it and is the greatest feeling ever to be a blessing to another human being”.

Toke Makinwa partnered with South Shore Hospital to help two women finance their operation and medical costs. Out of over 80 applications, these women were chosen based on their inability to pay for their surgeries due to insufficient funds, and the pain and difficulty which they were facing due to the fibroids.

With the help of the team of doctors at South Shore Lagos, Toke Makinwa has transformed the lives of women across Nigeria.

Not only has Toke Makinwa changed these women’s lives, she has also created a platform to raise awareness and educate the public on the struggles that women with fibroids face.

According to her, this is just the beginning, and she cannot wait to do it “even bigger” next year.
