The mission of LEAD Camp is to inspire and empower young girls to become high-achieving women leaders. This addresses Social Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. In order to achieve this, the participants are taken through series of activities which include leadership workshops administered by HOD Consulting Inc., empowering discussions with leading women from the private and public sectors in Nigeria; conceptualization, development and implementation of group projects serving the needs of girls in Nigeria (achievement sessions); and self-development sessions that address critical areas such as sexual reproductive health, personal hygiene, etiquette and character education.

In the words of Simi Nwogugu, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria:

I developed LEAD Camp back in 2001 because, after two years of running JAN, I noticed that some of the girls who were shy or timid at the beginning of the Company Program, were more confident by the end and needed just a little more encouragement to secure their new found leadership skills. Seventeen years later, we now have several notable LEAD Camp alumni leading and working in positions and institutions, doing impactful work to make the world a better place.

Speaking on their partnership with JAN, Emeka Emuwa, Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank, stated:

“Our sponsorship of this initiative aligns with our efforts in talent development which is one of our 3 Corporate Social Responsibility pillars at Union Bank. The LEAD Camp programme provides the opportunity for us to nurture and encourage a leadership and empowering mindset in these young women who we expect will become corporate leaders of tomorrow.”
