An audience of mainly Nigerian-American women held a highly impactful and inspiring convention with government and private sector leaders in Baltimore, Maryland during the 3rd edition of She-EO by Ganiyah, which took place at the University of Baltimore on July 28, 2018. The event, which took place 6 months after the highly successful Lagos, Nigeria debut (in January 2018) was tagged the “Be More Edition.”

She-EO by Ganiyah, a brainchild of Tope Fajingbesi Balogun, creates a safe platform for women of African descent to host conversations that matter about love and relationships, wealth, physical and mental health, careers and impact. One of the major elements that differentiate She-EO from similar events is that it replaces speeches and presentations with guest interviews in a talk show styled format to allow speakers use personal experiences, including tough battles, to inspire members of the audience.

The first guest interviewed on the She-EO 3.0 stage was the current Mayor of Baltimore City, Catherine Pugh, who also formally recognized She-EO by Ganiyah through a framed Mayoral Salute. The all-day event thereafter progressed with a session on “Money Matters,” with hot seat guests – Douglas Eze and Dr. Rita Bailey, a Certified Public Accountant, who offered practical solutions to wealth creation and debt management challenges faced by Africans. Other sessions tackled tough questions about physical and mental health, love and relationships, life in the C-Suite, and rising from personal obstacles and business challenges.

A few of the hot seat guests in attendance were; Magda N. Yrizarry, Senior Vice President and Chief Talent & Diversity Officer at Verizon Communications Inc.; Funlayo Veronica Alabi, CEO Shea Radiance; Dr. Adeola Oke, Clinical Pharmacist, Nurse and Public Health Practitioner; Funmi Omole Williamson, Chief Commercial Risk Officer of Constellation Generation and Exelon; Kumba Daffeh-Kah, CEO of Tresor Gambia, Senegal and America; and Najwa Awad, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist.

She-EO 3.0, which was beautifully anchored by the Mistresses of Ceremonies – Bunmi Emenanjo, an Ethics Lawyer; and Lolade Olayokun (MC Lolahstic) a former Miss Nigeria Independence, also gave members of the audience opportunities to contribute to the hot topics after each interview segment. Rave reviews and feedback about the event have been pouring in from participants on and off social media since the conclusion of the event on July 28th. Here are a few of such comments:

“I’m inspired to continue to work harder. I’m inspired to keep the struggle alive, life is a journey. I was able to network with a successful woman. Now I am inspired to write my own story. The sky is the limit. I will quit the self-sabotage game.”

“Amazing, authentic conversations with strong women who had the courage to express and share their vulnerabilities. I learned so much and I’m inspired. But I wish the event was longer.”

“I liked everything from the candid down to earth talks, to the camaraderie among the ladies in the audience. I thoroughly enjoyed the speakers’ heart to heart discussions regarding their marital lives. I definitely took home some important lessons. The presence of the Mayor of Baltimore was a hit!”

“The masks were off as this diverse group of powerful and accomplished women shared their struggles and triumphs in wealth building, entrepreneurship, finding purpose, health, love, and marriage. The lessons learned from the transparency and vulnerability of panelists was life-giving. For privacy reasons, there are no recordings or videos of these amazing sessions, so if you missed SHE-EO 3.0 stay tuned for SHE-E0 4.0.”
