Africa gets First Sporting Event targeted at LGBT People
The AfroGames have become the first sporting event targeted at promoting the rights of LGBT people across Africa.
With homophobia still rampant across the continent, the AfroGames aims to help bring LGBT people across Africa together.
The games, which took place between the 8th and 10th of December, was supported by the University of KwaZulu-Natal and included games like football, track and field sports, rugby and netball.
The event took place in Durban, South Africa, and one of the organizers, Hlengiwe Buthelezi, said:
We’re using the games in uniting people for inclusivity and use them to break the stigma of homophobia because most African countries have not decriminalised homosexuality
