Balance For Better #IWD2019! Grace’s Story is a Powerful & Emotional Call to End Child Marriage
We all love weddings and the beauty it brings. The joy and happiness it brings to the couple and the families involved are one of the reasons why it will forever be a cherished moment. But there are people who can’t relate to this happiness. What happiness comes from a girl child of about 15 years being married off at such a tender age. What happens to her dreams? Ohh, what if she has not even had the opportunity to dream?
At #BellaNaijaWeddings we believe that every girl child has the capacity to be more and has the right to quality opportunities. But child marriage has been a plague ravishing the dreams of these girls. This epidemic has to STOP. Together we have to take a stand to END CHILD MARRIAGE, together we must lend our voices to help the girl child who has no voice.
As we join the world to celebrate International Women’s day 2019, we lend ours with UNICEF to say END CHILD MARRIAGE. It is our hope that when you watch this mini-documentary about Grace whose life trajectory took a downward turn when she was forced into marriage at a very young age but thanks to Amaka, the founder of Wives RoundTable who is currently helping her live a better life. As at when we shot this documentary, Grace was taken away from this situation and is now reunited with her family.
In this documentary, We also highlighted the story of a former child bride, Victoria who got married at a young age but was able to leave the marriage and is currently having a great life. Blending this narrative with other young ladies who got married in their 20’s and 30’s shows that when giving the right opportunity, women can blossom and shine just like Nanfe and Tosin.
