The Billboard Music Awards may be over but we’ll be remembering this one for a while.

The night was full of speeches declaring a new world, from Kelly Clarkson‘s opening speech which was a call to action to Janet Jackson receiving her Icon Award with a nod to #MeToo and #TimesUp – here are some of the best moments from the 2018 #BBMAs.

That Powerful Demand for Action by Kelly Clarkson

Host Kelly Clarkson gave a speech before officially beginning the show, and with it she paid homage to the high school students gunned down at the Santa Fe High School shooting in her home state of Texas.

She had been required to ask for a moment of silence, but, instead, Kelly said:

I’m so sick of the moment of silence because it’s not working. How about a moment of action, a moment of change. Why don’t we change what’s happening?

#BTS Fans Wilding

K-pop group BTS were without a doubt deserving of the deserving of their Top Social Artist award.

Their fans were screaming all through the night, their award acceptance and their performance earning the most screams.

And on social media? Let’s not even go there.

Avicii Honoured by the Chainsmokers

EDM group The Chainsmokers took home the Top Dance/Electronic Award, and while accepting, they quickly gave a nod to their fallen colleague Avicii.

Receiving the award, the duo said “We wanna dedicate this award to Avicii… Everyone who was nominated for this award was massively influenced by him.

Shawn Mendes & Khalid’s Nod to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Students

Continuing in the fashion of the night, popstars Shawn Mendes and Klalid had the Parkland students protesting for gun control join them on stage to perform “Youth.”

The performance was such an emotional moment, earning a standing ovation from all present.

Janet Jackson’s Speech and Performance

Pop icon Janet Jackson was the deserving recipient of the Icon Award on the night.

Receiving her award, Janet gave a nod to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, saying:

This is a moment in history because women have made it clear that we will no longer be controlled or abused.

She also performed a medley of her songs, giving us some of those iconic dance steps.
