BN Exclusive: New Pan-African Fashion Reality Show “STYLOGENIC” hosted by Agbani Darego to launch in 2010

2010 is definitely set to be an exciting year for African fashion and style. We just received some amazing news. The BIGGEST reality show focused on Nigerian/African fashion and style is being launched in 2010.
The show called STYLOGENIC is a totally unique concept that has never been done before.
Rather than being based on the search for a top model or designer or stylist, the show is based around the concept of a style team! So contestants are going to be grouped in teams consisting of the various ‘style elements’. That is a designer, stylist, makeup artist, photographer and model. They will compete as a team and will battle it out with fellow teams for the grand prize!
And it gets better! The host of the show is Agbani Darego. The first and only black African winner of the Miss World. For such a long time, people were asking “What’s Agbani up to?”, she has enjoyed a successful career as a commercial model, studied for her degree in psychology and we reckon she was waiting for such an opportunity to put herself in the limelight and break free from the ‘beauty queen’ tag. Now its here.
The show will air during the summer after the World Cup and entries for contestants will open in a few months and from what we hear, it will be open to all Africans with casting calls held in various cities.
This is such a fabulous idea and we are so proud that it is a unique one rather than a duplication of what has been done elsewhere. We can’t wait to see the tasks and challenges that they are given. We already have some suggestions, maybe one challenge could be designing the outfits for Nollywood stars on the set of a movie…you’ll know the outfits in most movies need major work!
We hope lives up to its potential and that the programme shows off our African fashion and style talent, we also hope it brings the drama which let’s be honest is what makes reality TV a mustwatch. So all you aspiring designers, stylists, makeup artists, photographers and of course, models. Get ready, other than the exposure, we hear that the prizes on offer are fabulous.

This is such a great concept…I am already imagining the show! I hope they integrate Nigerian celebrities and culture into the show. Like I would love to see them make a complete red carpet look for Genevieve Nnaji, stage outfits for the whole Mo Hits crew. Maybe go to a rural area and makeover some of the ladies only using items sourced in the area etc…

I hope this mixes all my favorite elements of project runway and america’s next top model with sprinkles of koko mansion and a dash of big brother nigeria.

Cant wait for this One! Its heart warming that we are starting to own our own ideas and doing original things. Please don’t forget Africans in diaspora who might want to take part, and also guests and mentors who are African working internationally being part of the show. I think you can showcase the incredible viability of Africa and Africans through this show. Great stuff!

is Agbani’s hair natchi? or is that a weave? The show sounds good to me. unfortunately, there’s no space for me there
I think this is a good concept, but I’m just wondering how each team member could help others develop their skills, since each person in the team has different skills of their own e.g. How will the fashion designer help the model in her catwalk and vice versa? Well i guess the taste of the pudding is in the eating, so lets wait and see what comes out of this. BTW what prize is the winning team going home with? this is for something right?

@ene, great ideas!! but where will d model fit in all these? maybe for the genevieve one all teams will create a series of looks which the teams model will model and genny picks the team whose range she likes the most. for the rural area… nice but i cantthink wat d model will do

She’s a smart girl so I’ll be rooting for her to host the show. I hope it’s intellectually stimulating & fun & authentic NAIJA; not like that silly kokomansion. This is the way forward!

Am so proud of what my people are up to… (Africans/ blacks)… these days you see many girls going natural, representing our heritage…Am glad am a part of this new evolution… In addition to African movies, our music videos should also feature all these outfits and natural beauty.
