The guys at RedSTRAT, who have built a network of high-visibility, high-impact programmes targeted at the young Nigerians across spheres – including The Future Awards, The Future Project trainings and Rubbin’ Minds - are poised to hit the market with an exciting new brand!

After many years in the works, the content and communications firm is set to unleash Y! Magazine – which is targeted exclusively at Nigeria’s new breed of empowered young professionals.

According to the magazine’s official profile, “Y! will – using the best young Nigerian writers, interviewers, photographers, stylists and others – document the lifestyle, issues, trends and personalities that define the character and aspiration of the young Nigerian. It is essentially a trend setter and trend watcher: a cultural catalyst provoking and driving popular dialogue. Y! Magazine seeks to be to Nigeria’s youth culture what Vanity Fair is to America’s pop culture.

The first edition hits the ball right out of the park, hitting all the right notes with exclusive interviews, delicious writing from Nigeria’s best, and an attention to detail.

Actress and singer, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is on the cover, with a groundbreaking cover shoot anchored by two of Nigeria’s finest – Kelechi Amadi-Obi and stylist Dimeji Alara.

One of the pictures in that cover shoot portfolio (which will be made into a poster) premieres exclusively on BellaNaija.com today, with Omotola in a spectacular pose as the symbol of justice. The magazine leaves behind all the glam and sultry photo poses we are used to, and gets Omotola all sweaty and stern on the streets of Lagos!

According to the team, the shoot took over one month to put together.

We just can’t wait to unload,” the managing editor of the magazine, Adebola Williams, says with a laugh. “This is the new high priest of Nigerian youth culture!

The launch of the magazine, and the entire Y! experience, holds at Rehab, Victoria Island on Sunday, August 15, at a strictly by invitation event, anchored by OC Ukeje and Beat FM’s Oreka. The event is held in conjunction with Storm 360.

You’ll be able to get the complete lo’down from the day of the launch – including where to get the hot-off-the-press magazine – on the brand new website Ynaija.com!

For now, you can Join YNaija on Facebook or follow YNaija on Twitter.

    • Kay August 9, 2010 at 12:29 PM

LOVE that photo! SOO excited! Absolutely hate “Y Naija”, though. “Y!” on its own is fine
but the website, twitter and facebook handles should’ve been consistent, I
think. Y Naija? Ewwwww. Puts it in the same mental cabinet as Encomium, lol.

      Can’t wait :-)

    • Ms. ATL August 9, 2010 at 4:35 PM

I’m not trying to be a naysayer, but the Y! logo is too similar to Yahoo’s logo. I wonder if this can cause a potential problem in the future as far as copyrights… (I work in Marketing so such things catch my eye)

    • Høllæ August 9, 2010 at 4:35 PM

    • Gam August 10, 2010 at 1:00 AM

Not a bad concept at all, but kinda gone wrong plus the logo looks like something from the 80s

    • iBreatheFreedom August 10, 2010 at 1:25 AM

I love the idea but that mag cover looks seriously boring. The whole weight balance and plain purple makes it look like a law journal. Doesn’t look like it’ll be attractive to youths. #constructivecriticism

    • Snowjob August 10, 2010 at 3:29 AM

Kelechi Amadi always uses the same skyline so I am happy this one is a little bit different from Silent Scandal. Omotola looks smashing

    • Onlooker August 10, 2010 at 7:12 AM

iBreatheFreedom, that’s not the cover, that’s just one of the pics from the shoot that they’re turning into a promotional poster

    • Teefah August 10, 2010 at 11:51 AM

Omo sexy looks amazing…she seems to have lost some weight but hasn’t gone overboard with it.
Can’t wait to see the entire magazine!

    • EMI August 10, 2010 at 12:20 PM

    • Didi August 10, 2010 at 5:24 PM

Still haven’t read the content. Just got carried away by the photo…too fine.

    • BROSBEE August 11, 2010 at 5:43 AM

We need more magazines to challenge mediocrity in these parts. I sincerely hope this is one of them. I have bought 2 issues of FAB Magazine now and these guys have managed to set a standard not only for Nigeria but for Africa. I hope Y can deliver on content and production quality like FAB has. God bless Nigeria, God bless Africa!

    • onlooker August 11, 2010 at 9:56 AM

FAB has no content. Gosh. It’s just great photography and production.

    • NICEY August 12, 2010 at 9:15 AM

@ ONLOOKER, I SEEK TO DISAGREE WITH U. U DONT HAVE TO BAD MOUTH ANOTHER MAGAZINE TO PROMOTE YOURS. HOW CAN U SAY FAB DOESNT HAVE CONTENT THAT IS SO WRONG!! GUESS U STILL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN. LETS SEE WHAT UR Y! MAG HAS TO OFFER!!! NAWAH O!! Y1 NAIJA, THATZ NOT FAIR!!

    • AKOGUN ALLI August 12, 2010 at 10:13 AM

@onlooker. Either you’re one of the redstrat guys trying to discredit great work with (like you mentioned) great photography and also credible content that most literate and forward-thinking Africans, not just Nigerians are proud of in a bid to come up yourselves OR you’re just plain uneducated and “looking on” but not really seeing…whichever it is, you probably do not deserve to reserve the right to be called African. We cannot grow appreciation for our continent if all we do is put each other down everytime we see good stuff. FAB is the most credible and original Fashion and Lifestyle Magazine on the continent of Africa right now. Let’s watch Y.

    • CHIKE August 12, 2010 at 10:46 AM

lol!! Chei!! Y! Naija don misyarn. YES, i think onlooker is part of them coz he answered a question only an inside will know. u guys shud chill no be fight. @Wana how many times u go post, guess na error . but y the name Yahoo Naija? we de wait sha!!! plss onlooker how can i get an iv to the launch. if u like yap me.

    • Kekere-Ekun August 12, 2010 at 2:08 PM

      Hey people,

My name is Kenneth and I work for RedSTRAT. There;s no one on our team who wrote thsi comment and we do feel a bit offended that Chike, Wana, Nicey and Akogun Ali would immediately hold us responsible for that uncharitable comment.

Re ‘inside information’, Onlooker must have read this in the piece “One of the pictures in that cover shoot portfolio (which will be made into a poster) premieres exclusively on BellaNaija.com today.” We’d please request Onlooker to step up and take responsibility for his/her comment.

Our editor in fact writes for FAB and has hyped FAB severally on our website and his personal status updates. FAB is an excellent fashion and lifestyle magazine brand that we are excited about and have no interest in this rather unhelpful rivalry. Let’s all go and shine!

      Best regards.

      Regards.

    • FAB MAGAZINE August 12, 2010 at 2:54 PM

      WOW,

1st time we will ever leave a comment on any blog but here goes:

We at FAB Magazine have been directed to this page by quite a number of people over the
last few hours. We would like to welcome Y Magazine to the fold of
magazines in Nigeria. We GENUINELY wish the Y team all the success
in the world as Nigeria needs the brightest minds bringing out quality magazines.
We LOVE the fact that the aim of Y magazine is to champion the best talents Nigeria has
to offer. We at FAB Magazine love positivity and competition amongst our peers as we believe
that it will be the Nigerian readers who will benefit at the end of the day.

We thank all those who like what we at FAB are doing, and to those who we may have not joined the
FAB Fan group, check out the next issue (shameless plug), maybe it will change your minds :)

Once again, welcome Y Magazine to the publishing world, FAB Magazine wishes you all the success with
      your new baby.

      GOOOO Y MAGAZINE :)

      FAB Team

    • CHIKE August 12, 2010 at 4:59 PM

lol!!! so u guys are really taking this serious! sha una don settle! datz aiit!! no more bif! people must to misyarn. onlooker see wetin u cause now!!

    • Onlooker August 14, 2010 at 3:06 PM

Lmao. Yall need to calm down. Jeez. There’s no beef at all. I’m not part of the red strat team. It’s not like I said Y is good and fab his bad. It’s simply my opinion. I love what fab is trying to do, but I’ll still say that I think it lacks content. A lot of the articles are just plain boring. Like I said, it’s great production, the print is amazing and the quality is on point.
Awesome photography as well. But that’s about all I can do…look at great pictures. There’s really nothing to READ in it. There’s no really interesting articles. It’s written like it’s targeted at grandmothers and not the youth.
Depends on what you want in a magazine sha. :-)

    • Onlooker August 14, 2010 at 11:03 PM

Still can’t believe someone from red strat and another from fab had to come and comment before you people started thinking like human beings sha. A pity. :-(

    • Rosserie August 17, 2010 at 5:32 PM

Actually I do agree with you Onlooker. Fab is over-coloured and its content is watery at best.
