Nneka doesn’t change her core topic on her new single, Soul is Heavy. Her path is reminiscent of how Fela never quit wielding his music as a weapon to the communal conscience. Quick one though: How many of us truly remember/know Ken Saro Wiwa‘s story? What do you know of it? Tell me in the comments.

Ken Saro – Wiwa was basically campaigning for the accountabilty of the oil companies. He felt they were not doing enough for their host communities (& they’re not) & that the govt was not holding them accountable or enforcing environmental regulations on them (& they’re not).

Great tune! Bless Nneka for being unique in her own way and bringing a breath of fresh air.
Yeah, I remember Saro Wiwa…was in UNIPORT (Port Harcourt) those days. I recall the Ogoni Nine and their trial by tribunal and subsequent execution, I think it was during the Abacha regime. Terrible times…….
But back to the music – Yeah……i dey feel this joint.
