If she slim down more, have faith in God and believe in herself . She definetly have the chance.
“Slim down more” (sic)??? Are you for real? SMH! She’s an African woman and should not look like a bag of bones! She looks just fine to me…and @ Madman: Plain? Not only are you ‘mad’, you are also blind! She’s not wearing a stitch of make up in the clip and she still looks that good! And pray tell, did you see her in the carnival getup? Geez!
I disagree with the slim down comment. I think she looks perfect. She is definately SEXY. Don’t want a model that looks like she just stepped out of a grave. If she answers the questions with wisdom then I think she’s got a good shot.
LittleMissUnderstood. there is not need to insult Lady. Just give your own opinion in a constructive way if you want ppl to take you seriously.
She seems a little too plain for me.
you are right…no WOWfactor…i mean look at the other contestants..
EHN? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? This babe fine DIE! Even without make up! Good luck miss Sophie!!!
PS: IS SHE MIXED RACE???
She has natural beauty so she does not need much make-up.
Mademoiselle. she does not look mixed.
Really? I actually think she does. Anyway, maybe na my eye lol
You who is talking. please, can we see a picture of you before start calling anybody plain?? See the internet haters…they live to critise behind the anonimity of the Net.
She is a natural beauty and I hope she goes far. I have always been of the opinion that northern women are the prettiest in Nigeria anyway! (I’m yoruba btw…)
Thank you TEMID…enuff haters full here…>>>My dear Goodluck and i wish u the best…
YES, someone can say she is plain for an international beauty pageant, its HER opinion. i also think she is somewhat plain. it has nothing to do with what we look like. if Agbani was plain, would she have won Miss World? and who cares who you think is the most good-looking in Nigeria? who asked you?
I wish her good luck….
Pretty girl. Goodluck!!!…hopefully you win
i”ve looked at the Miss Universe website and errr what was she thinking with the picture she put up there? they should have put up a better looking profile for her….that profile doesnt sell her, but i wish her the best!!!
Agree with you. Pretty girl but she should have used a better picture. Looked at some others on the site and wow…hers looks like they took it with a phone. Check out Miss Ghana though…hot!

She’s sorted in the beauty department. Brilliance added, i’m sure she’ll win.
I wish her the best of luck! Love her red hair! Absolutely fabulous! The first ever for a nigerian beauty queen!
She does have a huge chance. Please Support her with you votes.

eeerrrr…. nope. Don’t think so.
Nothing wrong in hoping
She’s sorted in the beauty department. Brilliance added, i’m sure she’ll win.
Beautiful girl…..Lets hope her height wont be an issue coz she is kinda short for a pageant queen…Wish her the best.
EHN? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? This is a beauty pageant not a modelling contest. Her height shouldn’t pose much of an issue.
true, but they still have to be tall. how many short pagents have you seen? not much.
I wish her well. Go girl and bring the crown. Agbani Darego did not contest for Miss Universe but Miss World and she is not the only Nigerian who has made the 1st-10 category. Anita Uwagbale got to the 1st-10 too.
Agbani contested in both Miss Universe and Miss World. Anita got to the top 15 in Miss World (and won the “Queen of Africa” prize for Miss World- not Miss Universe.
Thanks for your comment
this Chinwe sef, if u must contest wat others say wont u at least do proper research? na wa
Sweety Agbani was 7th at the Miss Universe pageant in 2001.. Yeah, i would know bcos i watched it. Pls get ur facts right before talking
If she tones down the make-up, she should be okay.
all the best pretty
Too much hair and make up, less is more, even if she doesn’t win i just hope she doesn’t fade into the background, getting in the top 10 would be fantastic.
Bellanaija is right. Agbani contested for Miss Universe, she was top 10 and later for Miss World
I like her, she’s chirpy..
No wow factor!!! She is gorgeous by everyday standards but her hair and make up is too much and she is not svelte enough for a universal pageant.she should have fun
wish her best of luck,,i know sophie, she’s a lovely person n yes she’s mixed race,,half ethopian, half fulani,,her mama is ethopian,,
nabila you are lying she is not half ethiopian/half fulani. go check her profile. Bet you are from ethiopia. lol. I do not understand why are you lying though
actually depends on what you call mixed race she is half ethiopian and 1/4 ibo and 1/4 efik
i like her accent…and she’s pretty
Jeez ppl.. doesnt matter whether you think she’s plain or gorgeous. She’s representing Us. If everyone supports her, she’ll bring the crown back and put African women in the spotlight. That is as simple as it gets.
Thankyou for your comment. everyone else is just yapping about this and that smh
if she’s half ethopian and half fulani how does that translate to being mixed race or is ethopia no longer in africa?
shes mixed country… heehehee !
Good luck oh!!!
I don’t know sha, she does look very plain to me. There is no WOW factor. It doesn’t mean she isn’t pretty but just not WOW. Wait till you see the girls repping Venezula, Brazil, Peru etc
she’s beautiful..voted for her already and i hope everyone else does and she gets into the semi-finals.
who has checked out the lady representing ghana tho?? wow!!
i just checked it out the lady is too much ……
she HAS to be mixed…..
@Mademoiselle Yes am serious i hope her height wont b an issue… if u check the website you would see that all they girls have their heights written next to their names and most of them are MODELS so madam….. As u n i aren’t on the judges table, lets vote for her…Nabila is rite..she is half ethopian!!
Baby girl;, I’ve already voted o! Miss ghana’s looking fiiiierce though lol. Either of them should win
the news anchor makes it sound sad
i love her! why didnt she win that MBGN sef? shes got whot it takes, she will win!
she is gorgeous from where i am sitting.
i think she’s gorgeous and she stands a chance to get tp the finals…..too much hair though and wats it wit the wine colour……….all the best girl
She doesn’t need to slim down. She is perfectly ok that way. She looks lovely
Don’t want to be a pessimist…….. but with the kind of beauties we have from other countries, i don’t see her winning the crown. Anyway best of luck
if this girl sees the chic representing india she wont bother attending.
Wishing her success all the way!!
i like this lady a loooooooooooot and i wish her d best. voted for her already………………..but i think they should replace that pics asap cos anybody that doesnt know her wont even look twice…….those other gals pics fyne die
haba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dey shd bv put a better pic of her..shes beautiful tho, d pic is not just a kind of second look pic compare to the Erica Nego (Ghana). lets hp she will win.. All d best.
@ Temi D, i completely agree with you,the northern part of Nigeria has some of the world’s most beautiful women and men if i may add.
the ignorant statements we make ” she is too much, she has to be mixed” , “she is half Ethiopian hence she is foreign and exotic”…. the colonial masters still have some ppl under key and lock.
In a word, no.
she is pretty n gud to go . if she put in her best n b herslf ……..she will win d crown
Ethiopians are africans aren’t there? how is that mixed-race?
I don’t think she needs to slim down, she is beautiful and well spoken. I hope she wins!
Please let us support her. She is one of us.

Agbani didn’t seem like she had any “wow factor” yet she won. Guys, lets support our own o and please enough of the pessimistic comments.
Please support her! SUPPORT YOUR COUNTRY. PLEASE VOTE ON http://www.missuniverse.com. She is gorgeous and beauty like they say lies in the hands of the beholder. We should NOT allow the North to bully us into accepting their own stereotype of beauty. She is a well rounded beauty and its all natural, no boob job, no botox like a lot of other women out there!
PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR COUNTRY! remember we did it for Agbani! let Donald Trump acknowledge us!!! …fyi i dont know her at all and have no benefits from doing this but i am a pro-loyalist..God bless u all…:-)
who is Donald Trump, is he God! abeg.. watch you words o
i meant we should NOT allow the WEST to bully us into their own stereotype of beauty not North..east west north and south..oh well…typo
She’s a pretty girl, no doubt, but as for winning the crown…only in our dreams… the golden age of MBGN came to an abrupt halt after Omowunmi Akinnifesi was crowned. Since then, every Nkiru, Titi, and Chioma on the streets is waltzing into Silverbird hoping to get free cash and car. Silverbird needs to get its act together man, this is certainly not the best Nigeria has to offer.
and before y’all accuse me of bad belle, i have cast my vote for her online. After all, if we don’t support our own, who will?
As wsb said, “if we don’t support our own, who will?”, cast your vote quit criticizing her looks. She’s representing Nigeria, the least we can do is carry her to the top with our votes and good wishes. Our “constructive criticism” cannot help her now cos she is already there. The time for tips is over, the time for voting/ support is here.
She is a pretty girl and with the proper styling she will rise to the ocassion. Often times that is what holds Nigerian contestants back, a lack of proper styling and polish. I will go ahead and vote for her and I encourage you all to vote for her and stop being haters.
My only concern is that historically, Black contestants that are successful at beauty pageants are overwhelminglynot mixed looking. Therefore, looking mixed or light skinned, etc. may actually work against her on the world stage. The thing is the judges would give the crown to an actual white woman before they give it to a boot leg version of a white woman.
no she aint ms universe material…
All I see is hair, and hair, and more hair…….
guys, dont be negative. if we believe she is going to win then she just might win. bella naija, change the heading. dont ask questions about her winning. she is going to win!
ok, so we should start voting, ehn. All these future gold-diggers and husband snatchers [ remember that anty....]. so we should help her to win. She is fine o, but if her beauty is not enough for her to win, why should i vote for her. Cos who knows maybe in a fews years now, she will hunt don your future husband, and you will be begging her to pay you N10m for marrying your husband..
she is pretty, no doubt, but i have a problem. she is “mixed race” because she is half ethiopian? i knew she wasnt full Nigerian but come on, she isnt “mixed.” its a shame how many people criticized Sandra and Ngozi when the repped Nigeria at Miss Universie in 2009 and 2010. i think they are both beautiful in their own right and did NOT look like white girls dipped in chocolate, which i loved (often times if a girl is dark, folks still expect her to look like a white girl). their STYLING could have been better, I’ll say that much. but what is with some Nigerians and that “mentality” and you all KNOW what I’m talking about.
and as for Miss Ghana, SO WRONG. sorry, the girl looks white or hispanic, but is reppin a black country where more than 95% are very dark in complextion? hmmmmm, YES, i believe things like this do matter. not only do they always pick Ghanaian-Americans, but this year she seems the least bit Ghanaian, in my opinion. and that is with most of the African contestants. I guess I’ll be cheering for a one of those Caribbean babes or something, sorry.
sh cant win!!! the only reason is that . she’s not tall enuff
[...] photos and a video of Sophie Gemal departing from Nigeria on her way to Miss Universe [...]
i DONT think shes worth winning this crown ……. she doesn’t have the features except for her beauty but besides dat shes a zero no offence tho’…… but look at other african countries like ghana and tanzania , they hav improved alot especially ghana…. silverbird you need to step up your taste
pretty face but just too fat and too white to represent an african country like nigerian, too much make up too,, i dnt see any chance here sha..LOL
