What a sad way to end the day. We are still in shock about the news reaching us that Nigerian singer Goldie Harvey is dead. Details of her death are still sketchy but media reports say she passed on last night at Reddington Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos in the arms of her close friend, Denrele.
Goldie had just returned to Nigeria from the U.S where she attended the Grammy Awards with her record label, Kennis Music boss, Kenny Ogungbe. Kenny St. Best, an artiste also under Kennis Music confirmed the news to BellaNaija.
She said “It’s true. I still can’t believe it. I’m still in shock.”
Her death is so sad and sudden and comes as a deep shock to me. I remember meeting her for an interview some months ago and she struck me as a very pleasant lady. Beneath all the glitz of her glamorous career, Goldie is a very sweet and kind lady {still very hard to say “was”}. She is well spoken and the tone of her messages and emails were always so polite. Even when she returned from the Big Brother House and I tried to get some scoop from her experience in the house, she declined in the kindest way possible.
I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get to meet this lovely lady with such a kind heart. Denrele and Goldie were such close friends, I can’t imagine what he must be going through right now. They were supposed to launch their Reality Show ‘Tru Friendship’ in a couple of weeks.

, you spoke the exact words that were going through my heart when I heard the news yesterday. Suddenly all the snide remarks and harsh judgemenst I had given her seemed soo foolish and stupid. Who are we to judge one another period, talk less of doing it soo harshly. May God forgive us all, and may God grant her eternal peace. As I think back on how she behaved while in BBA, (one of the things I and many others used to yap her), I can’t help but think she was a MUCH better person than any of us that had sooo much crap to say about her, when all she was doing was living her life. Smh. I hope this is a lesson for us all. It shouldn’t take someones’ demise to make us feel embarrassed about our actions and words. Sun re Goldie.

Truth is most Nigerians only comment on “out of point” issues this place is supposed to be where you can learn skills like CPR, yes that may have happened (embolism) but what happened when she was not breathing and probably collapsed. I am so sure no one thought of giving her a cardiac massage prior to taking her to the hospital and she would have survived before advanced life support system arrives. I wanna use this Medium to encourage you all to learn how to resuscitate someone. I bet you Goldie could have survived if she also had people with that kind of knowledge by her. Since we love to change topics on ground here we can use it to learn some critical issues concerning our health.

If only all the good things said today was said to her before she dies, she may have still be alive. She was so talented and kindhearted.. So, this is true? How can this be? This is Probably the most unexpected thing to have happened this year between the pope’s resignation and Oscar’s Murder case. Too many questions so little answers, there is something wrong with the world today and sometimes death is the only way we all can be brought to sanity and humility. I’m honestly touched and really sad… This world is definitely not OURS!
Sad to hear this, but we must also face the fact, Goldie wouldn’t not have died if someone was around with enough Basic Life Support Training to revive or keep her heart beating. When someone slumps, it takes about five minutes for the heart to die and finally the brain – since blood is nomore getting to it. Bad thing is a true autopsy won’t be done to ascribe the true cause of death to be fatigue and stress. Once you can keep a heart beating, you most likely will save the person. Once again RIP Goldie, we love you. But God loves you more.
She died…… In a hospital!!!! Soo where is this talk about CPR coming from?
Excuse me, hospitals in Nigeria do not know the first thing about CPR, even though they are actually supposed to know. If they can’t treat someone someone with common malaria, what hope is there for someone with a heart condition. The truth is the Nigerian health system is screwed up. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear she was left to die without any resuscitation effort.

No need to go there. Not if she had a saddle embolism, I’m in the US and even here, its hard to safe someone from that. IV Heparin would be the 1st treatment, and many people still die almost within minutes.
If it was indeed a PE, CPR would be ineffective, its not that simple…

From the trip and all, seems like she developed a dvt (clot forming in her legs) and subsequently a PE (clot traveled and got lodged in her lungs), which is almost always fatal, even here in the US. She prob started having shortness of breath,chest pain…
May God give her family, loved ones and Denrele the strength needed to make it through this dark period.
And it was also reported that she had a severe headache prior to being rushed to the hospital. I find your diagnosis a bit off. Recent travel from Nigeria to US (9- 11 hrs direct flight maybe) seems a bit soft. Especially her young age (31), definitely not obese and of course I can’t tell if she had any underlying hematological disease. A ruptured aneurysm results in SAH (subarachnoid hemorrhage). Very high suspicion that it was (if the severe headache reported is true), respiratory support and emergent surgery would have helped. The fact that she is only 31, her chances for survival with the right health care should have been a lot better but then again Naija and it’s priorities…fancy wedding parties, expensive clothing and cars, wealth illegally or illegally acquired that the average citizens in developed nations don’t see in a lifetime and yet we can’t provide basic necessities such as health care and infrastructure. She probably had this brewing for a while, most health problems don’t start suddenly. Please don’t ignore symptoms especially when it’s persistent and listen to your body. For those people o here who choose to judge rather than state a fact, I would be very careful because we all battle with our imperfections and you amplify yours by judging others. May her soul RIP and give her family peace and comfort. We are all sinners but God’s children…………

There are several risk factors for developing a DVT
immobilization, so people on bed rest, hospitalized, sitting for long periods, like plane rides, cars…
increased estrogen, so women on birth control, pregnant etc
cancer, HIV, chronic diseases that cause the blood to thicken and impede blood flow
smoking
genetic conditions.
Folks should get up and move every few hrs when on really long flights. If pregnant, move at least every 2+ hrs. Pulmonary embolisms (PE) happens to young people too, esp if risk is compounded, say for example, you are a woman on birth control, or pregnant, and you are a smoker, and you are on a long flight, or on bed rest.

It pains me badly to think I was just admiring your grammy pics again yesterday, not knowing you did be gone by evening. I am still in shock! I was not a fan of her music but after watching her on Big Brother I loved the person she is (I guess “was” is now the appropriate word). Some folks say they watched her live on a valentine show last night so why is the news saying she slumped immediately she got back from the US? And another question, can someone with am embolism still perform and then slump later?

so so sad, heard dis news and i screamed!!! Rest in Peace, Goldie…May God accept ur soul…….this has signs of DVT (blood clot) and Pulmonary embolism (PE) all over it, esp as she was on a long haul flight. I was diagnosed with DVT in 2004 (final yr in uni age 22) and the doctors were shocked dat an active young lady could ave it, probably becos am HbSS (sickle cell). I ave been on medication (warfarin) since den and will probably be for life…… we young ones need to be more enlightened and read up on a lot of stuff esp concerning our health

Its scarey dont even know if you were totally dedicated to God and blieved him as your lord and personal saviour. Many people are just posting statements on ‘I didn’t give her a chance or respect this girl …’ It is useless blaming oneself or crying over what we cannot change. Instead we should all ask, or better, pray that she made peace with God in her soul before she died. Because, if truth be said “what does it profit Goddie or any one of us if we gain the whole world – leading a life that displeases God through provocative videos, dressing and other actions – and suffer the loss of the soul”? What profit is there in that? Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson – all good children from birth until the world and the attraction of the flesh changed their views of what is important – to save the flesh or to save the soul for its creator? Goddie, rest in peace! My prayer is that I hope you made peace with God before the hour he called you because as the Psalmist said “a humble and contrite heart the Lord will not spurn”. No one of us knows the hour, not many will be given the opportunity Goddie had to make peace before the die. Hence, through Goddie’s death God is saying “Be prepared for no one knows the hour”. I wonder where she is right now. What would be the account she would give God for the life, strenght, beauty, talent … He blessed her with. I dont want to sound judgemental but just for us to think of the life we are living, is it pleasing to God? Yea she plans of launching a show in a couple of weeks and so death was not in her plans. We dont know when our own personal rapture would take place so it is important to be prepared. It is only in God that there is safety. Money can’t buy life else she would have paid for it. Lets find Jesus and live a worthwhile life with the end in perspective so we would assured of a terrific eternity in heaven. God’s Grace. May God give her family the fortitude to bear this loss.

I know the point you’re trying to make so I’m not trying to take away from it. But honestly money can indeed buy life. It can buy you a longer life and that is God’s wish for us. Let’s get proper check ups. Let’s pay proper doctors. If we have the opportunity to travel to a country with better healthcare, don’t spend all your extra money on buying things for friends, instead get all your checkups ASAP. You might be walking dead and don’t know it. It’s not clear what killed her but even the sitting for long related disease people are talking about (ie the embolism), doesn’t appear just because you sat for long, you must have other risk factors and the sitting could make it worse. For me, that’s the moral of the story. BUY long life by taking good care of your health

Everyone talks about someone at some point in life, whether good tings or bad tings, dats y we are humans. Goldie was no exception, She had her share of hurtful words especially after her big brother fame. I might not have been her fan, does not mean i wished her dead. Some people seem very upset about ‘Goldie Haters’, yea Its normal…. but if u never talked bad about her, does not mean u dont talk bad about other peeps too. I tink its best to keep our lips in check. It is said that great minds talk about ideas, average minds talk about things, and small minds talk about people!
