Loving Stephanie Okereke’s look…she’s fast becoming my fave celeb in terms of style. A lot of these stars shouldn’t be wearing short dresses and what’s up with the tight clothes????

It almost seems as though Genevieve could care less when it comes to fashion. She sure loves her slippers as i cannot recollect ever seeing her in crazy sexy heels…taken into consideration the fact that she’s a lil on the petite side like moi..BUT U JUST CANNOT DENY THAT THE WOMAN IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! I can only imagine how she would look like when she actually starts putting effort into her fashion choices.
Her cheekbones are her best features..they just make her face POP.

    Steph looks good as well…

Genevieve looks beautiful, but y does she always mess up her outfits with her shoes?? Y is she wearing slippers to such an occasion and with that dress? and will she let that dark red nail polish go for once?!

As for Uche Iwuji…. “Obara Jesus!” is all i’m saying.

Genevieve Nnaji is the bomb, she is Hollywood material. For now she shld forget about the fees and take any opportunity that comes to have a feel and taste of Hollywood. And then, she can command fees. I’m not a huge fan of Stephanie Okereke’s outfit and i lurrrv her earrings. Grace Amah is ever conservative – please someone shld wife her now, as if it is any of my business… lol. Kate Henshaw Nuttall, outfit – yes, footwear — person non grata, doesn’t do it for me. Rukky Sanda pulls off the outfit as she is tall, and the footwear, make-up and shoes, no way!!!!!!!!!!!! Uche Jumbo, 100%, did her homework carefully and got the style right. Emeka Enyiocha, mr cool. Some nigerian ladies shld learn how to dress carefully, in my opinion, they don’t really have to wear cocktail dresses, shld they need to wear, then they could use African fabrics to make one just like Grace Amah did. Nigerian women, most of us, are built with wide hips, arses (buttocks), thighs so we hardly fit into some customised evening dresses. Anyway, to each their own. Joke Silva has gained so much weight and she still looks beautiful tho. Chioma Chukwuka Akpothe looks nice, cld do without the Remi Ohajianya looks nice like an African prince, reminds me of Forest Whittaker only without the suit…lol I like Ngozi Nwosu’s hair colour. It looks like a nice event, i daresay….

There something that irritates me about naijas on the red carpet. That is when their phones “remember” to ring. If you can’t be bold enough to walk through the red carpet, use the back door biko!!…If I see one more person fidgeting with his/her phone or “talking ” to someone on the red carpet, I’ll…

For an event of this nature these ladies and gents should have asked for help. This should be a platform for indegenious designers to show their work instead of these dreadful, off-the-rack, my-cousin-in-london help-me-buy, excuse for dresses I just saw. My eyes still hurt.

some are ok, some should loose weight like asap or tone up their bodies, i know its not africanish to excercise but people are getting a lot more informed these days, and some should cover up a bit more, i’m not a hugh fan of exposing boobs, i think it’s more gracious to cover up. i love steph and uche jumbo’s dressing looks fabulous, steph has an amazing physique, uche seems to be loosing weight which is good.

I still don’t know why it is i do not understand the hype about a lot of the so callled nollywood it a case of one eyed man in the land of the blind?

About the ONLY actress i have been impressed by is the lady who acted ramsays wife in reloaded..NOW THATS AN ACTRESS…she actually made me wanna bitchslap her husband through my t.v and dont get me started on how i wanted to assist her in whopping the arse of the husband snatcher she kept hostage…buahhahaha..i LOVE her..

Genevieve…i think just got lucky as she burst unto the scene at the right time…i have only sat through maybe two of her home-videos…nothing impressive AT ALL..

stephanie needs to lose her fake accent ..WHY??flow in your naija accent and who knows a door might open..but when you sound like any other wannabe and co..what sets you apart??

    UCHE IWUJI,,,,awusubillahi mina shaytani rajin…IS ALL I CAN SAY…

    Genevive Nnaji looked flawless….don’t hate!

I really wasn’t feeling Stephanie Okereke’s (Beyonce reject) dress and was mad that she had the same $10 Jamaica Avenue purse I purchased for my high school prom. Upgrade, please.

I liked what Kate Henshaw was trying to do with her outfit, but she missed the mark, especially with her shoes.

Uche Iwuji looked like hamburger meets cotton candy. What’s going on with her?

My man Forest Whittaker looked coooooooool. Chillin’ in the African sun.

Uche Jombo was perfect from head to toe. She looks great and I want that belt!

Grace Amah looked too grandma-ish although her updated traditiona wear was nice sans the shoes.

Most of the men looked underdressed. Like they were going to the office and not a red carpet event.

I do believe these events should be opportunities for African designers to showcase their wears. Maybe the stars and the designers will get together at some point and do just that. It would be fun to be a part of the Nigerian Fashion Police squad.

I don’t get the hype about most Nollywood actresses – just because you have appeared in a movie or two, it doesn’t mean you are a “star”. But moving on…

I’m no fashionista but even I know that “chunky” women should not be wearing short, tight dresses! I don’t think I’ve seen this many eyesores on any of Bella Naija’s posts before. JAYSUS!!!!!!!

  25. Ladi

    May 5, 2009 at 5:48 am

Many people commenting have worse pictures on facebook. Everyone has their moments and don;t forget that Nollywood is unlike Hollywood oozing with millionaires and $50,000 dresses.

If the dress costs $10 so what? If she lives above her means, people will complain now that she is on her level, you’re calling her cheap?

Will Smith can earn $1m but his 9ja equivalent earns N1m (do the math!)

Exactly…looking good does not have to come with an atronomical price tag—thats why they say money can never by taste or style sef…
One can put together a 50quid outfit and floor someone in an atelier versace creation…
Majority of the nollywood “stars” still have a loooong way to go…
e.g what the hell was gennevive thinking wearing those what??silver slip ons with her dress??
it makes her look as if she just cannot be bothered…
wish i could hit them all on the head with my heels and switch on the glamour lights thats always off in their styling…

One thing i can’t stand is people who always feel the need to be overly critical. It’s not hard to leave a comment or S-FU-P….really. Why are we so jealous “Genevive’s shoes are bleh…..this person looks like a grandma” Who the hell cares! The earlier we as Nigerians learn to support each other (and if we must criticize, be objective and provide it constructively), the faster Nigeria will rise. Gosh, we love to spew hate and animosity. The fact remains that most of these actors are probably earning more than some of us will ever earn in our lifetime. True talk.

Hence, rather than typing irrelevant comments from the comfort of our homes or schools, “was mad that she had the same $10 Jamaica Avenue purse I purchased for my high school prom. Upgrade, please.” (I’m sorry, are we supposed to jump for joy that you can afford a $10 bag?…sheesh…grow up), most people really need to S-FU-P and get a life! People can wear whatever shoes or clothes they want to have.

    2 things to remember:
    1) No matter how much negativity we throw at our Nigerian actors/people in general, they will continue to do their ish…They work hard and will continue to make money. Deal with that….

    2) As Nigerians, instead of trying to as we say “feel among”, let’s learn to live within our means. Just because you’re a billionaire or millionaire does not mean you must buy a $50,000 dress or suit. Learn to save for the rainy days. Money comes and goes….

    Enough said.

  30. Sugabelly

    May 7, 2009 at 4:57 am

I am humbly confused about how noting that someone’s shoes look like crap translates to jealousy.

    Honestly, I really am confused.

  31. PoisonIVY

    May 7, 2009 at 4:59 am

It’s a given that if people choose to LIVE their life in PUBLIC a la choosing a route like acting/music/”stardom”…then they better be ready to deal with all that comes with thrusting themselves into OUR collective senses..via whatever means by which we get to see them..AND when we do get to see them..what comes naturally?
they either get props or they get criticised.CHIKENA..

I personally find it irritating that people are so quick to jump on the bandwagon of others who freely dish their views the way you or the next person have…thats why its a public site..people WILL ALWAYS have differing views. Some agree to disagree, some are a bit more passionate about their views, some are downright rude, some a bit loopy about their views, some keep on hitting on the same what??
BUT at the end of the day, don’t automatically assume that because A,D,AND K think that gennys FUGLY slip-ons ain’t it automatically qualifies them as haters.Neither does the state of UCHE IWUJIS BLEACHED OUT FACE affect the progress of Nigeria…ITS NOT THAT SERIOUS..

And about your precious actors earning more than what some would earn in their lifetimes…im sure countless bellanaija readers would beg to differ….and i stand first in line.

And congratulations to the “STARS” in continuing to do their work and earn their money..BUT I STILL MAINTAIN..MOST OF THEM AIN’T SH*T IN THE GLAMOUR STAKES…SHEESHHH!!!
AND UCHE IWUJI STILL LOOKS LIKE A mammywarra on day release from an underwater assylum…

i strongly suspect that somehow you believe that your six inch heels appeal to everyone, just because all the big hollywood stars are wearing them, right? sometimes you have to accept that some people prefer simple/understated ‘glamour’. there is nothing wrong with gen’s shoes/slippers, its just not to your taste, maybe its hers. Leave it be. And maybe she really couldn’t be bothered.

  34. KK

    May 8, 2009 at 6:00 am

    speaking which truth???
most people on this blog just hide behind the anonymity of the internet to spout crap.most of the persons here do not dress half as well as the people they slaughter. You think because you leaf through fashion journals in your GP’s practice and at the newsstand in your local shopping centres, so know the latest brands, you can just come here and run your mouths like some fashion gurus??
i beg e!! get a life and try and find something productive to do and let go of the excess bile being released here.
Bella just posts a pic here and within mins crap comments start flying all over the is either the dress is too cheap or the blouse is too tight or the colour of the pintings on her toe nails are too dark.another day it is that she has worn that dress too often or the wig is too fake.yet again, it is either her armpit is too sweaty or her palms are too sweaty.
    Na wa!!!
i dare you fashion moguls on this page to post your pics in your summer 2009 special outfits and let us pick them apart.

Some peoples hypocrisy never fails to amuse me…

And i can blow my trumpet and shout from the rooftops that I dress better than all this clowns..what a joke..if it wasn’t so funny,i’d take it as an insult.

When people like you start to grasp the concept that once a person decides to go down the route of beign in the public eye either by acting(genny and co),music (sasha and co),beauty(nike oshinowo and co),business(tara and co)etc, they get thrust in our visual senses collectively, and what they wear, how they act, things they say or do etc ALWAYS come under scrutiny..NOBODY ever said it’s fair…but hey ho thats what ya sign up for when you choose the public life mate.
So please quit playing advocate huhn???

I am so sick of reading Poison Ivy/Sugarbelly’s comments on BN. Ahn, ahn!!! Na only you wey get opinion? Please sell it to someone who wants to buy it!!!! Abeg, Bella is there anyway you can censor these haterade-sipping, bitter, look-at-me-I-can-write, negative idiots as it is now effectively taking away from my, previously, extremely enjoyable BN experience? I honestly cannot stand to read another word from them.
To PoisonIvy/ Sugarbelly, can it possibly be that your well-learned self(selves) cannot grasp the fundamental idea that its not everything you think that you speak?!
Yes, we know you watch E! constantly so you are obviously a certified expert on anything celeb-related…Yes, we know you subscribe to Vogue…Yes, we are well aware of the fact that you are well educated…Yes, we believe that you’ve worked in Fashion, music, publishing, media, advertising, films, Church, Mosque, Library etc…Yes, we get that you do not like mixed race/oyinbo/yellow people…Yes, we could actually agree with you that you might be a fashionista (on some parallel universe)…truth is WE DON’T CARE!!!! Nobody gives a flying F**K!!!
There I said it…now bite me!

P.S – I can bet my absolutely fabulous behind that you are going to go on about how its a free country and you can express your unsolicited disdain on virtually anything that takes your fancy. Well, make you go voice your opinion for MOPO and see if you make it out of that sitch first before you come here with false bravado and start mouthing off because of the anonymity the internet affords you…HISSSSSSSSSSSSS

  39. Bemine

    May 11, 2009 at 2:09 pm

I would believe you…as in, that its not hating if it weren’t incessant and on virtually every and anything. To make use of an analogy, are you saying that because your friend involves you in her life (by giving you gist) gives you the licence to always give her a dressing down? Yes, I know these stars aren’t your friends as such but Haba…do unto others na!
Also, I understand the argument about being in the public eye…that’s why tabloid mags make a fortune. No one is saying its illegal for you to pick apart their lives or every decision they make but at least have the decency to agree that its extremely sad to do so on a constant basis.

    May 12, 2009 at 3:39 am

    Well said Bemine!! Well said.

The scary part is that they confuse their hate-spewing comments to be synonymous with constructive criticism. Even though celebrities put their lives in the public eye, as Bemine notes, we need to “grasp the fundamental idea that its not everything you [we] that [we] speak?!

It is imperative that we recognize that there is more to life than obsessing over celebrities, fashion, and other irrelevant brouhaha that we’ve been bamboozled into believing is important. The art of critical media literacy is sorely lacking in our lives.

I can only imagine what our world would be like if we channeled our energy into more constructive avenues. [This is not coming from a self-righteous point view…I’m equally guilty of this]

Celebrities are after all only humans, not Gods!

  48. Sugabelly

    June 23, 2009 at 8:11 am

    Hi Hallee.

Let us talk about being a celebrity.

Do you know WHY people are FASCINATED by celebrities?

    Let me tell you why.

    Listen carefully.

    Because their lives are UNATTAINABLE.

Regular people look to celebrities to live the IMPOSSIBLY GLAMOUROUS lives that they (regular people) cannot hope to live on a daily basis so that they (regular people) may LIVE VICARIOUSLY through them (celebrities).

And for that reason, Celebrities should TRY to dress well. In case you have not noticed, (with the exception of those with unbelievably amazing talent) it is the best dressed, most glamourous, interesting, etc Celebrities that rise in popularity.

AND, the more popular a celebrity becomes, the better dressed the general public expects them to be.

I am not a fan of Beyonce, but I will give her this: As she has increased in popularity and wealth, she has dressed accordingly, and her public loves for it.

Genevieve should take a leaf out of her book.

Hallee: Every time you use the word “hater” you lose about 50,000 brain cells.

Make an educated argument or two, and I will actually respect the fact that you disagree with my opinion, but sing the chorus of hater and I will conclude that you are a moron.

    My dear, thank you oh!
I have given up arguing with some people – a.k.a Sugabelly, arguing with her is like arguing with a brick wall – pointless. She is like a vulture, because everytime someone says something she pounces just so she can’t get the last word in. Never backs down gracefully, uncouth in her manners, rude and obnoxious. We are talking about fashion, and she thinks Beyonce dresses “well?” LMAO Her opinion of course, but that says a lot about her perceived fashion sense…even bey stans know her dress sense isn’t all that – she does have her good days…..what was I saying? Sugabelly, do yourself a favour and learn some manners. And you do not know it all – contrary to your personal opinion.

Hallee or whatever you call yourself, wow, are you just stupid, simple or plain “special”?

So almost,if not over a month after this stale gist, you decided to get out of your basement and flog a rotten horse carcass..??
its DEAD hun, that TRAIN left the station weeksss agooo

I mean read your totally ridiculous comments, even my ten month old niece is smarter than you and would articulate herself better than this attention seeking nonsense you have come up with.(but still a matter of opinion eh?)

So you expect people to clap for you right?
hoorayyy..hallee has spoken for the people…now pat yourself on the back and go play in traffic or something(make it rush hour please).

And some random clowns mention that maybe I or sugabelly comment like this and know nothing about fashion etc..i laugh..

Let me make you all sleep better at night and let you know that i’m THAT girl who stays stunting on all your weak asses….

Wow…stupid’s back in the building…I wonder why I didn’t get that memo!
Hallee…seriously leave Sugarbelly/Poison Ivy alone…they will never ever ever get it…Truth be told I know nothing about Poison Ivy except I suspect she’s got fish brain and is incredibly delusional but I’m really disappointed in SugarBelly. I went to her blog and she seems like someone I can totally jive with but its such a let down that she has such bigoted views…SB, you wouldn’t even be able to live where you do if not that the citizens are accommodating and tolerate others and their opinions/culture, please learn to do the same!

Sugarbelly, there’s a gaping hole in your theory.
How do you explain Paris Hilton or Jordan? They don’t dress particularly well and neither do they qualify as ‘extremely talented’…
You so don’t have to be a clothes-horse to be a celebrity and FYI for most Nigerians, Genevieve’s lifestyle is incredibly unattainable…Not because she’s the richest or the prettiest but because she’s set that bar herself…I’m not a fan but there’s no doubt that she stands out amongst the Nollywood posse

Let me come in here for a minute. We all that these stars can dress up. We have all seen them in one or two functions and i can tell u that it makes me proud when i see their sense of style and fashion. First of, Genevieve’s outfit rocks and she would look pretty in rags including foils.Rita looks pretty too.
They dresses they are wearing now are just being modeled by them. Look closely and you would notice that the designers of those dresses are advertising themselves through thee celebrities.
I am sure that some of you watch fashion week and see models in the runway…
Stop castigating these beautiful people. Sure say some of una no go fit come close to being as cute as they are.

The heat in here is pretty intense I mean presidential candidates in the US should see all these comments to get better points on how to win debates. Whoohoo with all the abuses and insults on this one fear no go even let me comment. I never knew a simple shoe on genevieve and a dress on stephanie could cause so much rumpus. If say these celebs know say una dey quarrel better quarrel here because of them at least e for good. ROTFLMAO.
