7 Cameroonian Athletes Disappear in Britain at the London 2012 Olympics

The Cameroon Ministry of Sports and Physical Education has announced the disappearance of seven athletes while in Britain for the London 2012 Olympics.

The seven – five boxers, a swimmer and a soccer player – are suspected of having left to stay in Europe for economic reasons.

According to Reuters, “What began as rumour has finally turned out to be true. Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village,” David Ojong, the mission head said in a message sent to the ministry.

Ojong said a reserve goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team, Drusille Ngako, was the first to disappear. She was not one of the 18 finally retained after pre-Olympic training in Scotland. While her team-mates left for Coventry for their last preparatory encounter against New Zealand, she vanished. A few days later, swimmer Paul Ekane Edingue and his personal belongings were also not found in his room.

Ojong added that five boxers eliminated from the games, Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, disappeared on Sunday from the Olympic village.

It is not the first time African athletes have disappeared during international sports competitions. Last year, 15 Ethiopian athletes disappeared after competing in the All Africa Games in Mozambique.

Mozambique is a popular transit route for illegal immigrants from Ethiopia, Somalia and central Africa. It was reported that they went to South Africa, in the hope of finding better opportunities.

Another high hopes waiting to be dashed when they will eventually realise that the UK is infact NOT all as rosey as people pretend make it look. Life for a legal resident and professionally employed is that challenging to get by, talkless of an illegal immgrant who by law isn’t even permitted to work or earn any form of living.
Good luck to them, ‘cos they certainly will need it.

Even fake visas and fake residents permits don’t go unfounded these days……at least not for long.

you sound like one of those ones who secretly wish they could live in the UK but cannot, so would instead name bash the country. London is a free and fair land, work hard, play harder. its why the system isn’t twisted like that of Nig.
STAY IN NIG!! boko haram amongst the zillions of problems in nig is only just started, soon you’ll be lining up for visa.

So just because kathlin is warning in advance of the hardship immigrants tend to face when they migrate abroad illegally, you think she is secretly wishing she was in the UK? The way some Nigerians like you reason is appalling. It is not a secret that due to the global economic recession, jobs have become scarce all around the world including the western world.

If english people are having it difficult finding a job, what do you think will happen to an illegal African immigrant who has no authority to work? Do you know how many of our people are stuck abroad suffering? They can’t start a family, they can’t send money home, they barely have enough money to take care of themselves and out of desperation begin to engage in illegal stuff that get’s them in trouble with the law of their host country.

So because Nigeria is suffering from boko haram, Nigerians should migrate illegally to other people’s countries shebi? If everyone runs to the western world, who will tackle the menace called boko haram? And once the problem has been solved, Nigerians like you will now want to come back to Nigeria once you are in your sixties and your old body can no longer tolerate the cold harsh european weather.

Ifunanya, I live in London, have lived here for as long as I can remember, very proffessionally employed and very successfully Married with a child, and I’m speaking to you as an insider who knows the way the system operates here in the UK and you’re bashing with your dirty mouth and unexposed self.
It’s girls like you who come here with all that false hopes, and before 6 months runs out, they already begin to hide from friends seeing them in other to avoid seeing how already wretched they have turned into simply because they negated warnings from insiders like us before they came. Thats why at times I don’t blame the people who live here or anywhere abroad and yet portray lies and false lifes to people back home in Africa. It’s because there are people like you who will open their unwashed mouths to retort.

Nobody is asking you not to come here, Nobody is asking you not sneak in or abscond and hide ….but be prepared and well informed. Be also informed that Aristo runs no dey here. ‘cos there are girls who are waaay hotter than you who even got their jobs and gainfully employed that are willing to get laid without any thing in return…..’cos from the way you sound, I can almost bet that you’re one of those Naija babes who thrive on aristo runs.

Come UK come hide na! I pray you’l be the first to be caught and brandished all over BBC news and the papers! *mtsheeeeew*

Or may be they came along with life long supporting medicines that will last all through their period of abscondment?

my dear Cameroonian sisters! how will they perform astoundingly and win medals when disappearing is all they had at the back of their minds?! Were they even qualified athletes? or just a gyrating bunch who had bought their way into the Olympics? where are they even disappearing to? Hope to another London and this one we all know because they will quickly learn that they have jumped from frying pan into fire.

      August 8, 2012 at 11:26 am

If you were an athlete who lives under a dollar a day, who is called up by your country only during major events what would you have done if you were in their shoes? bearing in mind that coming back to your country you need to work and save for about 15yrs to migrate legally. Most africans migrate to europe because they are uncomfortable in their own country, stop blaming the athletes, i wish they all disappeared, if you were a cameroonian you will know what i’m talking about.

As much as I find this funny the disappearance of these athletes reiterates the dire need to for African countries to become more habitable for the common man! Illegal immigration as I see it is the end result of the frustration suffered by thousands of people in Africa. God help us. On a lighter side walahi im so pleased these athletes were not Nigerian sha lol not that Mr Jonathan would be bothered lol

This is just too BAD, Habba!! They ought to know better that the UK isn’t friendly when it comes to illegal immigration. They’ve just succeeded in ridiculing their country and africa as a whole. I just pity the innocent future african athletes who aspire to participate in future olympic games. They’ve just succeeded in hinting the white man to make access to such much more difficult. I give them just 1week (their pics are everywhere), once they’re found, they’d be treated as criminals.

I pity those who came back. sure if they had their way, they too would have disappeared. its the hardship in our country that pushes people to carry out such acts. they had this worked out before travelling for the games thats why they couldnt even win a single medal. thats how cameroonians have always been. the parents and friends of those who came back will be asking them why they came back. if they had a way, they would have disappeared. its going to take a while but they will definitely go through. others have succeeded thru fraudulent means as this. in this country of ours, most people prefer travelling illegally than legally. most people who have illegal documents always travel with little or no problems but those who have legal documents are always denied visa. wish all 7 athletes good luck (not Jonathan) and for those who returned, you just missed a life time opportunity cos you wont even travel for the next olympics so farewell…….. as they say “never miss as opportunity”

That is very dumb and stupid of them cos since Cameron became prime minister – everything is extra tight for immigrants. you cannot even get cleaning job without showing your passport, birth certificate etc. So i think they have made a very bad mistake and they will be caught and finger printed never to set foot in any western world cos since 9/11 UK, Canada, Australia and all of EU share information on illegals

at least they are saver illegal immigrants than nigerians who will do nothing but take advantage of the system by doing ILLEGAL stuff in the country (several council flats rented out, bank scam schemes, doe schemes etc etc ) – Nigerians are known globally as scammers and thieves so dont compare the cameroonians to nigerians. I am confident if they are not caught , they will live in UK quietly and not be dubious to the system like most nigerians are in EVERY WESTERN WORLD.

    • What?!

      August 8, 2012 at 6:09 pm

      Listen here Kay,

Don’t come here to talk trash about Nigerians. In fact, God purnish you for what you just typed up there. You hate Nigerians this much yet you come on a Nigerian social media site? I am sick and tired of you hateful Africans! What have we said wrong here? Many of us live abroad so we know that life is not easy abroad even as a legal resident much less when you are illegal. Did you have to come here to insult us?

You bloody Africans obviously don’t like us but yet you heifers cannot stay away from Nigerian social media sites like this one. If it was Nigerians that pulled this stupid stunt that you cameroonians pulled, you people would have insulted us like crazy. What the cameroonian athletes did was wrong because in the next olympics the host country might choose to do an extra screening of African athletes to make sure such nonsense does not repeat itself.

When Nigerians mess up, you fellow Africans insult us and when other Africans like you cameroonians mess up, you still come to our social media sites and use your leprosy infested fingers to insult us! What is wrong with you people?!

Bella, please kindly approve my post because this constant web attack on Nigerians by other Africans is getting outta hand. The other day, it was ghanians heifers insulting Nigerians on twitter for losing to the american basketball team. Now cameroonian heifers want to start their own. I will not tolerate that!

Illiteracy is a disease of the mind. If your parents ever paid school fees, please you have to refund them in full or buy them a house, to pay them back for all their hardwork and sacrifice, because it was really wasted on you. Even conversational english, isn’t as crass and un-readable as the junk that you just typed up. You think living abraod is easy, they will get no jobs, no jobs, i mean zilch, as it is cheaper for an employer to hire EU citizens (Lithuania, Romania, Polish), who are here in their millions, and who dont mind being paid less than minimum wage, rather than employ a bloody african illegal immigrant, and risk being fined up to £10,000 for each illegal immigrant caught workin on their premises. So all you supporting their actions are just ignorant and ill informed people, who are sitting in their countries and still dreaming of an el dorado in Europe. People who live here, try to tell you morons the truth, just think the person doesnt want your progress. We do not want illegal immigrants, like you and your ilk here, your rub of on us who are here legally, working and contributing to the system. It really really irritates me to read a story such as this. No matter how bad cameroun is, trust me, you have a roof over your head and family support, plus the weather is favourable. You try living in the height of winter, with no job, no food and no money to pay for heating. Some people who manage to find some illegal jobs, are paid so so little, even lower than that paid to cheap labour from the EU, because the employer takes advantage, knowing you cant report him. The little they earn, they can barely live on, some sleep on the streets in the miserable cold, sleep in train stations because their income cant pay rent, and the person who initially housed them threw them out, and for what, to escape sufferring in cameroun. You never know suffering. I am repeating again, the times have passed when you can be an illegal in Europe and make it. EU citizens have closed off that route, because they are legal and they are cheap. Eduate yourself please. What am I saying, someone that can type that is obviously lacking in education. Nonsense
