“Ndu Collection” – Andrea Iyamah Fall/Winter 2012 Lookbook

With Summer almost out of the way, Canadian-based Nigerian designer, Dumebi Iyamah presents her design label, Andrea Iyama‘s Fall/Winter 2012 Collection – the Ndu Collection. Ndu, meaning strength.

Showing off her versatility once more, the designer sought to portray the daring, feminine and strong ambiance of the African woman using prints, distinct cuts and carefully hand beaded pieces to showcase the undying beauty of the African woman.

Speaking on the collection, Dumebi Iyamah said “I wanted a collection that was sultry, confident, risky and yet elegant. The collection was shot in GRA, Lagos Nigeria whereby the model on the railway symbolizes the knowledge of knowing the risk of taking particular steps in life, but yet you take it anyway. In every collection I release, I try to tell a story about a stage of my life I’m facing. This stage is one of consistent motivation, effort and of course ‘Ndu’ (strength)”

‘autumn/winter’ is the time the clothes are released. It doesn’t mean she’s designing the clothes for winter, it means they are going to be available in the october-december quarter.
We use those terms even here in Nigeria because that is the international measure of fashion ‘seasons’.

In igbo, ndu means “life” and “ike” means strength so i dont know where they got their translation from.maybe its another language i guess
