Governor of Kaduna State Patrick Yakowa, former National Security Adviser General Andrew Azazi & 4 Others Die in Helicopter Crash in Bayelsa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has confirmed the death of the Governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Yakowa; the  former National Security Adviser; Andrew Azazi and four others in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa state. The helicopter reportedly crashed this afternoon in a swampy location near Okoroba community in Nembe local government area of the state.

The Presidency in a statement mourning the victims the helicopter crash gave the names of the other four victims of the crash. They are Dauda Tsoho, an aide to Governor Yakowa and Warrant Officer Mohammed Kamal, an aide to former National Security Adviser, Owoye Azazi. The pilots were Commander Muritala Mohammed Daba and Lt. Adeyemi O. Sowole.

NEMA’s spokesman, Yushau Shuaibu, in a statement, said that the six occupants of the chopper were found dead and their remains had been taken to the mortuary.

Here are excerpts of the statement as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria:

“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the conclusion of the search and rescue operation over a Naval helicopter that crashed this afternoon in Nember area of Bayelsa State. The operation which involved collaborations of response agencies and volunteers led to the recovery of the bodies of the six passengers on-board the the helicopter.”

It was gathered that the helicopter was headed to Port Harcourt after attending the burial ceremony of the father of President Jonathan’s aide, Oronto Douglas.

According to Channels TV, the helicopter belonged to the Nigerian Navy. A statement by the Nigerian Navy confirming the incident and signed by the Director of Information; Commodre Kabiru Aliyu, says that the crash of the Augusta Helicopter (Helo 07) occurred at about 3.30 pm.

Yakowa and Azazi were both members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. In a statement by the party’s spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, their death was confirmed. “Our great Party is shocked beyond imagination and no words can adequately give expression to the depth of our grief.” the statement read.

What a sad loss.  This crash comes just weeks after a plane crash on October 25, 2012 involving the governor of Taraba state, Danbaba Suntai who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Germany.

May their souls Rest In Peace.

Why doesn’t it mention why the helicopter went down in the first place? Is there going to be some kind of investigation or this is yet another coverup of some kind? It seems that aircrafts are now used as weapons of choice for the assignation of these people! Is anyone demanding an investigation? If this is how the government treats its own imagine how they treat a common citizen. Shame, shame, shame! This is appalling!

as a conspiracy theorist let me say: i think there’s a vendetta against northern leaders and the North of Nigeria by some Nigerians in alliance with “outside western sources”. this reminds me of what happened before, during, and after Biafra, only now the scapegoats are people in the North of Nigeria.

Azazi was working with the CIA! Enough said! when they use you and realize you know too much, they dump you. i only wish Nigerians will open their eyes and see that most of the instability and problems we face in our country today e.g boko haram, poverty, bad governance comes from outside BIGGER countries who have “interests” in our beloved country. Hausa’s are not the enemy, and none of us (rich/poor, yoruba/igbo/hausa,) is the enemy. the eneny lives outside our shores but people r too blind to see that. before our enemies came we were one UNITED Nigeria. but God is sha punishing them, everyday you hear somebody went on a killing spree or financial crises or natural disaster. this is only the beginning for the wicked people in this world!

to say the truth, i don’t think Goodluck Jonathan will survive. i have a feeling he will be killed. we’ve never lost so much politicians and government officials since the military was in power. GEJ has been frequenting churches. he knows the same people killing all the officials are also after him, and he knows too much to be alive. I don’t think he’ll survive. the man is trying to change our country for good but those people won’t let him because they have “interests” in Nigeria. God save our country and people!

@Boko nwa mazi, YAKOWA is a christian.
@ Lollipop Jonathan already said it will be investigated, what he did not mention was if a committee will be set up.
Such a sad sad incident how many governors do we want to loss this year
I feel sorry for their families, largess just left some homes to another, may GOD forgive the dead and give families affected the fortitude to bear the loss, including the pilots and aides.
