The great literary genius Chinua Achebe was buried in his home town of Ogidi yesterday, 23rd May 2013. We remember him with fond memories. The life he lived, the stories he told and the principles he stood for. Professor Achebe died at the age of 82 in Boston, USA.

Hundreds of people came out to give the great Achebe a befitting farewell. Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan was also in attendance and he read short passages from Achebe’s work.  Referring to Achebe’s book “There Was A Country”, the president said ” All of us must work together so that our children will know there is a country.

Rest in peace Chinua Achebe.

Here are some photos from the ceremony.

As much as some of his writings may be disagreeable, I hope people let this man rest in peace. He was a giant amongst men. He did his bit. And has left the younger generation the opportunity to stand on his towering “shoulders” to seek and create a country where justice and fairness reigns for all.

    When Achebe was buried
    President Jonathan was there
    And president Mahama too
    Together with Chief Nanga
    They gave the encomiums
    He would never have taken
    while alive
For they are part of the pack
He never broke a trust with
    Alas!death has called the bluff
    of this titan
And the tingods have stolen the
    show
    Brandishing smiles of triumph
    When we mourn the demise
    Of the conscience of Africa
Will there be a country again
    Where there was one
    Now that the mother hens
    Are made with hawkish genes
    And falcon’s inclination

Though its being written that as long as your a human being or any other creature that you had have being created by God death is an obligatory yes I agree but the death of Chinua whom I wished to teach me even within a minutes , real his journey embarrassed and hurts me more. May almighty God site his soul in peaceful and gracious place and at his back were in the same line.
