Nigerian Design Label Re Bahia unveils its Resort 2014 Collection in Lagos! Exclusive Photos of Karen Young, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Wana Sambo, Tsemaye Binitie & More at the Event
Since May, top brands including Chanel, Gucci, Christian Dior, Zac Posen and Giorgio Armani have been unveiling their creative luxe Resort 2014 pieces and our Nigerian brands are definitely not failing to deliver.
Design label Re Bahia recently unveiled its Resort 2014 collection at the Cafe Vanessa, Victoria Island, Lagos. Draped in a black cut-out dress, the label’s creative head Orire Omatsola presented her uber feminine creations to some of Lagos’ stylish including Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Karen Young, Wana Sambo, Tsemaye Binitie, Ian Audifferen, Ngozi of Zed Eye and Isoken Ogiemwonyi.
For the Resort 2013 collection, we are presented with youthful and relaxed looks. The PJ trend is seen visibly in some of the pieces especially in the mens’ outfits. There are also print dresses, shirt dresses, lace and frocks with Ankara detailing.
According to a rep for the label, the 15-piece collection takes inspiration from the still evolving Re Bahia girl. Focusing on label’s core: an embroidery technique called Khabaslot and developing the new signature prints combined with a James Bond-esque bullet and gun print, designer Orire Omatsola sought put together a collection of dresses and separates that embodied a poignant moment in the development of her brand. “This new collection is centered around me coming into my own as a young woman and designer,” said Orire Omatsola. “I have finally begun to understand who the Re Bahia girl is; she is a constantly evolving style chameleon.”
Check out the photos from the event.
The Re Bahia Resort 2013 Collection
Re Bahia’s Khabaslot technique meets print this season. Working closely with one of the best textile designers, Banke Kuku, the brand was able to develop its core technique, Khabaslot, into a digital print.
Colours range from midnight purples and black to gold, green and a vibrant red. Fabrics include double silk satin, striped silk satin and chiffon, duchess satin, cotton sateen and the signature Khabaslot which for the first time was woven in a gold metallic thread.

Why why why are Nigerians slaves to fashion?!!!! How can you wear leather clothing in 35 degrees weather or wedge sneakers?! It’s like wearing them abroad during summer!! It’s ridiculous!

Sharap!!!! There is nothing wrong with wedge sneakers. They are not strictly meant for winter.

June 6, 2013 at 1:52 pm
True they are actually not that great for very cold winter month. My feet were frozen at below zero degree Celsius when I had mine on.

Ghetto fabulous sis, I live in NYC and at this time of the year, because of the heat, people do not wear those sort of sneakers. Of course you can choose to wear what you want to any time, even sandals at winter, or knee high boots at summer, whether is right is a different thing! God bless! And, there’s really no need to be crude to get your point across!

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wearing wedge sneakers in the summer. It’s not like they are boots. They are just sneakers with wedges! Would you refrain from wearing sneakers in the summer?
Titi
June 6, 2013 at 9:44 pm
It’s really not about summer or winter, but about the heat!!!! Do you wear sneakers without socks? So are you going to wear socks with your sneakers for hours in Naija heat and humidity? ……the sweat, aargh!

Lots of people are “slaves” to fashion. Not just Nigerians. Fashion is not always practical. How practical is it to squeeze your gut into spanx or wear 6 inch heels to go dancing? or while pregnant. Some people just take fashion that seriously. Doesn’t mean you have to. No one is forcing you. Do you boo and let the fabulous be.

I totally agree with Iyabo on this collection. All I seegsaw was I skirt. Even the guedsts looked more interesting in their outfits than the whole collectiom the ambience was fantastic, the models beautiful but I rate the collection 8 over 100 and its just for effoce please. I think the problem of yound designers are copying prior designs of know designers. I see absolutely no innovation in all these. I apologise if I offend you.

Constantly being in AC can make people feel very cold in this lagos honestly. I always carry a scarf because I am forever cold in this town! always going from one AC to another!

The Ankara detailing is beautiful and a few of the pieces are nice especially the brown dress and black and white skirt. But I think in some of the pieces the fabric is holding back the design.
Maybe not the best ” collection”, but I recognize the designers talent. One to watch.

Why shouldn’t people criticise? After all the clothes are made to be worn by people aren’t they?

June 6, 2013 at 10:37 pm
Okay, truth be told everyone cant be a designer, so if you decide to design u have to be the best at what you do. Then peeps will praise more than they criticize. I liked the collection but the models looked so hungry and i think that made the outfit less vibrant.

ugh some of you are acting like these particular people didn’t leave their air-conditioned houses to enter their air-conditioned cars to arrive at this air-conditioned event!!! heat is clearly not their biggest issue so why should it be yours??!!! some of you haven’t been back to Nigeria in probably years but you clearly know the most about weather forecasts and what grown men and women should or shouldn’t be wearing right???….pleaaasseeee!!!!!

I know! I remember my friend who lives in London almost losing her head when I told her i sometimes have to wear a sweater in my office in Lagos. She went on and on about how “Nigerians” like to over do things and I couldn’t bring her to understand that the AC was centrally controlled and it was always cold.

The cabha slot is quite interesting! Some of the models in red and blue didn’t look like they fit in the clothes so they didn’t make them look great. Maybe they didn’t eat? But I like the guns! Very wearable you can pick piece by piece and style as you want. Very lovely! Not all the girlas look like models though. So its a few steps away from international standard. That said, I would like to see ebahia take more chances with her design. Great! But its time To knock us out! Futuristic and wearable its time knock us out babe!
