Ikenga: The Minstrel Session
Ikenga is a celebration of the Palm-Wine Guitar, the folk music of the musty creeks, shanties and back streets of West Africa and one of the first hybrid fusions of native African and western music. The guitar was originally introduced to African music by the Portuguese and Spanish sailors, to the coastal urban centers of Africa and was mastered by pioneer African musicians. The concert shall pay tribute to some of the old masters of the music including Justus Domingo, Irewolede Denge, Israel Njemanze and Okonkwo Adigwe.
