Yoruba Folk Music Performed With An Orchestra! Watch Adedeji’s Live Rendition of “Erinlakatabu”

Adedeji - June 2013 -

An avid BellaNaija Reader, Aderike Adalemo stumbled upon this concert footage of World music act, Adedeji performing one of his singles, “Erinlakatabu” to a Dutch audience. I’m really glad she shared it with us because it really shows a taste of where ALL our top notch Nigerian music acts can and should be.

The song  is originally from Adedeji‘s debut album, “Ajo ” which dropped in 2012 and he performed this show with the NNO Orchestra.

Check on it!

Beautiful!! I WANT MORE *going off to Youtube to search… actually, going off to iTunes to search*

Please, let it hereby be known that this is what we term legit “Nigerian Music”. Emphasis on “Music”. Not “Your Waist” as catchy as that particular tune might be, not “Like to Party” and certainly not “Take Banana till you go ‘yo'”. We need to bring push cultural music forward and give it contemporary versatility so that we can sell, sell, SELL them to ourselves again. I would gladly play a CD of this on repeat in my car, in my crib, even dash it to oyibo friends, etc…

Nigerians, pls watch this and see what we mean by proper music. Classic music isn’t just about anything, its about settings, academic documented arrangement, see a foreign orchestra masacre our own song simply because they are learned! Let’s stop jambourine and return to the proper drawing board. I’m determined to get it right no no matter how long. I bet you won’t regret doing same too. Adedeji, I don’t know you from Adam but I feel your responsibility. Doing it to wow d world in a proper way, I salute your resilence.
