i apologise if this comes off as rude, but:
can anyone explain how it is Ghana-ians come out either sunny-light skinned or truly-ebony dark? is there no middle-tone? if the majority is dark-skinned, where do they trace the light-skin influence/heritage from? #idlewondering

    • Akukua

      August 26, 2013 at 10:23 am

Yvonne Nelson (and so many others are “middle-toned”). i think a few of the “yellow-bone celebrities are mixed race.

      August 26, 2013 at 10:58 am

And this your analysis is from a sampling of how many ghanaian?

    • Teris

      August 26, 2013 at 11:14 am

honestly, just the ones i see on the AfMagics and on BN posts.
well, i have been to Accra once, and everyone i saw or came in contact with was dark-skinned. i suppose Ms Nelson counts tho…

    • Omo1

      August 26, 2013 at 11:19 am

@Thatgidigirl..no need to be critical about what she said! I understand what she’s trying to say and I have wondered the same after seeing tons of Ghanaians either pure ebony black or really light skinned. And like Akukua said..most of those sunny skin toned are mixed raced.

go to nairaland sexuality forum and checkout the topic “Beauty of ghanaian women”. hope that answers your dumb question. you have never been to ghana like you claim, because if you have, you would have seen ghanaians of various skin tones. i dont know why some nigerians think its ok to be ignorant. if i was also gonna judge the color of nigerians based on the ones i have seen in college and the ones i saw at the Nigerain Independence parade, then majority of nigerians are dark as well. i watch Battabox you know. all i see majority of dark skinned people walking on the street of nigeria. pls pls pls nigerians, stop hanging on to the few naturally light skinned people that come out of ur country because majority of u are not. much like if we ghanaians hang on to the few light skinned people that come out of the ewe tribe, ga tribe, fante tribe, or hausa tribe and claim that ghanaian are light skinned when in fact majority are either ebony black, medium brown, or light brown. like i said go to nairaland sexuality forum. check out the beauty of ghanaian women, and that will answer your question. hopefully from then, you will learn not to be ignorant.

GH babe you have time to respond to these 419 globally blacklisted twats. These group of ppl who kill people in broadday light and burn them when passerbys pass on like its nobodys business, same people who are globally known for money rituals, being the most materialistic, colonized by british but speak with tonation like they were colonised by aliens, i mean seriously, you have time to respond to such. I will not give them the satisfaction. Nigerians are IGNORANT on every part of African not just Ghana. They think their nation is the America of Africa, every body else is secondary.

Claim to be the one of the oil richest nation in Africa yet the nation is forever fked up, now they know money cant buy peace so they migrate to Ghana South Africa and elsewhere.

You have the audacity. I mean how retarded foolish and stupid can you be to think all ghanaians are one skin type. Nkwasiasem Kwa!, Alata fuor diyer mu ejimi jimi dudu

@ama why are u soo bitter. please go away! stop coming on a NIGERIAN blog to insult us. its not our fault that u guys are not proud of people that are 100% ghanian. look at KEVIN PRINCE BOATENG lol used u guys to gain world recognition and after 9 games dropped ur so called black stars national team. in nigeria our stars are light but guess what they are also 100% nigerian and true children of our land. we dont need to pose like u people and yes we have the intelligence to hack computers its not our fault.

      August 26, 2013 at 8:40 pm

      hi GHBbabe.
if u come by this post, i sincerely do apologise if my question came off badly on you.
the thing is, i’m used to picking up stray info based on the structure of most articles e.g. “…the Haiti-born Wyclef…” or “…mother of twins, J.Lo…” and this sometimes leads me to do a little research, etc.

not being an AfMagic aficionado, i have idly wondered. and BN articles really don’t say much more than “…Ghanaian actress, a,b,c…”
and so i asked. and now i kno. and no, not all who wander are lost.
sorry. i mean to say i never assume that simply cos one is light-skinned that one is bi-racial.

Naija is a much varied mix of peoples and i have a rough idea where n how our colour-patterns emerged (which we can discuss if u ever have the time). it tells another portion of our history, where we come from, ish like that.

but now, thanks to DStv and the event sponsors, Africa is beginning to “mix” which is great. and i am curious about the “others”.

BTW, i did spend a brief couple of nights in Accra – at a hotel very close to the airport – and only managed a visit to Nkurmah’s memorial park(?) and to the beach. we chatted with our very delightful cabbie n he did highlight the peoples and history of ur country. (uh, u r Ghanaian, right?)

the truth is: no, of course we nigerians do not kno much about you ghanaians, or anybody else for that matter. that is… until u become interesting. until then, u choose to enlighten us or leave one to speculate.
one more thing: the beauty of Ghanaians or any other tribe(?)race(?)country – was never in question nor was it the point. in fact, (at this point i feel like i’m lining up the firing squad with me as the target but,) bcos nigerians of biracial descent never (or so seldom?) participate in Nolly-tings, i and a couple of ignoramuses like myself were amazed to learn TODAY that these guys r actually biracial, etc…oh bother! just try to take my enquiry in good faith. cheers.

    • Californiabawlar

      August 26, 2013 at 9:05 pm

Ama and GHbabe…..oya sorry now…the original post was in no way an attack on the sexuality or beauty of Ghanians…if and if only you assume that once she mentioned dark-skinned she meant ugly….in that case, that would be your own personal problem not hers.
Plus if you visit Nairaland and BellaNaija (Naira and Naija being the keywords), I doubt you really dislike naija as much as you claim….you’re just a little confused 😀
It really does no one any good to be filled with so much hate for a country/people. Even though I didn’t watch, didn’t BBA turn into an East versus West African thing? I know East African generally believe all West Africans are short and ugly, as stupid as that is….do you think the racist white man cares if you’re Nigerian, Ghanian, eastern or western African, brazilian or even AA?? My dear, we are all in the same struggle!!! Moving further from that level…the Lord judges each individuals heart…so calm down and let some love mingle in your heart, before you endanger your soul because of something as trifling as nationalities….**warm bear hugs for your fired-up spirit**

    • GHBbabe

      August 26, 2013 at 10:41 pm

i referred you to that website not to focus on beauty but rather the various skin tone that ghanaians come in. thats all. Now i like the fact that you made mention of history of nigeria blah blah. i also wanna take this opportunity to educate you that ghana has a history too. we dont not come one color because our ancestors migrated from so many parts of africa to form what is now called Ghana today. our ancestors migrated predominately from Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, and little from what is now congo. that’s why in Ghana, you find names like Adu, Osu, Asafu Adjaye, Mokola Market etc. these are nigerian names right? 3o million people may seem small compared to ur population but its a lot of people for you to go through before you judge. you dont judge based on sample. wish we could post pictures here on BN, i would posted pictures of so many ghanaians who come naturally light skinned but it still doesnt undermine the fact majority of us are either dark skinned, medium brown or light brown.

    • GHBbabe

      August 26, 2013 at 11:03 pm

      @californiabawl
its not about beauty. i wanted him to see the different skin tones ghanaians come in since that website has lotta pictures of ghanaians from all over. where in my post did i say i hate nigerians. i dont hate nigerians. i am surrounded by them all day here in school. there are only 2 ghanaians compared to about 20 nigerians here in my school. and they are my friends. i just dont like the ignorant ones who hide behind their computers stereotype people they know nothing about or have not even met 0.1% of their population.

@Teris please is it that you dont know that Majid M, Nadia, Juliet and Van Vicker are all MIXED-RACE? Mixed race is when one of your parents is black and the other is white. This is common everywhere in the world. Your question is so amazing really. Some people in 2013 cant still tell when a person is mixed race? This is so unbelievable.

She, like van vicker and artus frank Are NOT Ghanaian and coukd never be. THEY ARE LIBERIANS WHO NIGRATED TO SEEK REFUGE IN GHANA AND NOW RESIDE THERE

    • GHBbabe

      August 26, 2013 at 6:04 pm

      ur info is not correct.
Frank Artus is the only liberian who actually migrated from liberia to ghana to pursue his acting career.
Van Vicker was born in Ghana to a half ghanaian half liberian mother and a dutch father. he wouldnt hold a ghanian birth certificate and passport if he was a refugee. His full name is Van Fiifi Vicker. obviously his mum is from the fante tribe in Ghana
Juliet on the other hand was born in Ghana to a Liberian mother and a Lebanese father but was raised in Ivory Coast. She and her family later moved to ghana permanently. Her heritage is Liberian and lebanese but her nationality is ghanaian.

Bellanaija its the stupid ignorant comments by your people that makes me say stop posting news ghaba related bcis it generates such stupidvretarded foolish comnents. For u people to thinj ALL ghanaians are dark skin is ignorant at best, granted jukiet is not ghanaian as I stated the are thousands of ppl from Ga, Fanti or ewe tribes who are not mixed yet very fair. How dumb a question can it be to assume that the whole nation of ghana if 24 million most or all are one complexion and that is dark. WHY ARE NIGERIANSVSI IGNORANT ABOUT GHANAIANS.
Well since we are asking questions I have mine to ask too, I am just curious do they give you ppl some special thief and burglary juice when u r babies, why does is seem like All Nigeria ns are thiefs. Its like everyone I met knows how dupe and steal effortlessly. Dont be angry sha, am just asking

a lot of ghanians are verry verry BLACK i dont think there is any naturally light person in ghana. in nigeria some ibos are light and hausa people too. as for @AMA, dont be jealous. just because nigerians think of things before ghanians do. if nigerians do NOLLYWOOD, GHANA WOULD RUN AND DO GHANAWOOD LOL IF NIGERIANS START AFRO HIP HOP GHANIANS WOULD RISH AND DO AZONTO SONGS. PLEASE THERE IS NO COMPETITION .

    • GHBbabe

      August 26, 2013 at 10:13 pm

another ignorant fool. in ghana people from the Ga tribe, Fante Tribe, Hausa tribe, and Ewe tribe come light skinned too. a typical example of a full Ga woman is joselyn dumas whom BN has featured on this website so many times. light skinned is not indeginous to nigerians alone fool. stop hanging onto the few among that come light skinned. majority of you are either dark skinned or bleached. nollywood is made mostly ibos right? hmmmm! how many of them have their natural color. tonto dike, rita dominic, omotola, uche obodo, and majority of your stars are all bleached. be real. so easy to tell a natural light skin from bleached skin. you talk as if Nollywood have never featured mixed race people. well let me mention their names for you since you have no clue; caroline ekanem, ibinabo feberisima, lilian bach, eku edewor, shan george, ramsey noah. are these fully nigerians? get some enlightenment. u really do need it.

What does that have to do with Juliet Ibrahim’s photo? If she is your kinfolk, you should show more respect for the post that is about her and not make a random comment like this.

@bellanaija we need an age limit for people leaving comments, especially child like comments. I know the back and forth banter can be fun a times but if positivity is the message of the day, some of these comments should have really not been approved. I am truely embarrassed for all parties involved. It is ok to be patriotic, without being flat out rude.

Kinda of sad watching fellow African degenerate themselves because of complexion, may i ask people what is wrong with been dark?? I dated a beautiful dark complexion Ewe chick in UK, if no be say that honey dumbed my ass and moved back to Ghana, she would have been my Mrs today.. Africans come in all shades, black, white, mixed you name it. Thats what makes all us who we are. @ Ama, no need calling Nigerians all sorts of things, stereotyping is a dangerous trait, learn to put your point across without insults. btw Juliet Ibrahim is a hottie but a terrible actress.

Hmmm. All this Ghanaian bitterness all because of a simple question. That was their chance to enlighten us courteously as no question asked is a stupid question. I have Nigerian friends darker than any Ghanaian I have ever seen, so no need to be super sensitive about the natural smoky dark color of the STEREOTYPICAL Ghanaian. It’s all beauty. We know y’all don’t come in one shade, so chillax, enjoy the pictures and don’t rupture your aneurysm/hernia for nothing.
