Stars at the 2014 Grammy Awards - January 2014 - BellaNaija 01

Dencia wasn’t the only African star present at the 2014 Grammy Awards yesterday night.

As expected, media execs Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye who were spotted at the Staples Center days before the show (click here to see), were dapper at music’s biggest night.

Also seen at the event were Kcee, Julius Agwu and Harrysong.

Harrysong, I remember in those days when he used to sing in Church of God mission, Warri, he even had a group but today he has completely moved away from gospel music. It is well.

It hurts me when our so called artistes and stars fail to understand the simple requirement of their craft. By virtue of your career/craft, your role requires you to dress up appropriately. Even for a local event in Nigeria, you are required to look your best. How on earth does anyone turn up in this outfit worn by Seyi Shay? And to the Grammys again? She’s too beautiful to do this all the time. You don’t need to own a fortune, people who are not in this industry do better than the poor job some of our so-called female stars do. It just hurts my eyes and does my head in constantly wondering what part of looking good is hard for these people? Even the men do a far better job all the damn time!

To all the naysayers, there is a time for everything. I remember 10/15 years ago, we’d be like ‘Snoop Dogg featuring *insert name of Nigerian artiste*, is it beans?’ But now it’s happening. Our music is gradually gaining momentum across the world.

Back then who would have thought you could actually gain a decent living or even become rich by singing or acting in Nigeria, but it’s happening.
