Iyanya - Rendevous - March 2013 - BellaNaija 01

Long before Iyanya became a pop sensation, it was all about R&B.

A lot of you may remember his viral song “Love Truly“, which he performed during Season 1 of MTN Project Fame West Africa.

The pop superstar was recently invited to perform on BBC Radio 1Xtra; he sang Craig David‘s “Rendezvous“.

*I like* I did follow him all through his Project fame debut but got confused as he progressed…oh well! as unique as the Nigerian music industry may be, some people appreciate lyrics, content and depth…

Eeeerr I have mixed feelings about this cover…… In my opinion, Iyanya used to sing better. Mayb ‘cos he is putting too much ‘swag’ in d song sha… paying more attention to licking his lips, making faces, adjusting his sun glasses, rubbing himself instead of paying attention to his voice and the song he is singing.

Iyanya performs the song far far better than the owner, Craig David.

      Thank you o…
That original version of that song had enough harmony by back up singer (s)…
      I listened intently for it…
      For wia…?
De guy just remained barely audible, yet he kacked up like someone we could rely on…
Someone please tell him to disappear with his voice

iLike!! I see you Teckno. Triple M record got fantastic artistes with talent. I think our Nigerian artistes should time to time do songs this way cause it keeps us in a constant awareness of their musical talents cause most of the times we their fans forget if truly they can actually sing

Please what is the guy in the back doing? bahahahaha. He sounds good, he’s just a little choppy cuz he’s not taking enough breaths and kinda letting his words float. But we all knew he could sing, didn’t his first few works show that. Iyanya if you want to be true to your craft do more of what you like, but if you just care about making the money, then do what THEY like. Good luck to you.

Iyanya is good, please it’s high time he starts singing and carving an R nd B niche for himself again. He shouldn’t waste all this talent on Kukere kind of songs .

I’ve heard him sing a better version that was posted here on BN. I think it was Ndani or one of those type of shows. He messed up the arrangement and actually started singing behind the melody toward the end. Tekno was smart to slow it down to match up with him. He’s still a really good singer, but what good is that if we never get to hear his voice?
