U.N. Security Council Blacklists Boko Haram Leader Shekau

Abubakar Shekau - May 2014 -
Nigeria’s terrorist Islamist sect Boko Haram has been sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday.

Leader Abubakar Shekau and the head of the faction of the group Ansaru will be banned from international travel and their assets will be frozen under the U.N. al Qaeda sanctions list.

The sanction was delayed for two weeks because Russia placed a “technical hold” on the designations for more time to review the listings, but diplomats lifted the ban.

Boko Haram is described in the U.N.listing as an affiliate of al Qaeda and the organization of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

Reuters was first report the story.
