“I’m still treated like I’m on the D-list” – Taraji P. Henson on Acting in Hollywood & More for Ebony Mag

Taraji P Henson for EBONY Magazine October 2014 Issue - Bellanaija - September 2014

Ha! It’s Taraji P. Henson on the October 2014 issue of Ebony magazine.

The actress, producer and single mum is rocking a sexy bejeweled one-piece on the cover while sharing 25 things we don’t know about her. She also talks about the struggles of being an actress in Hollywood today.

She will be celebrating her 44th birthday on Thursday 11th September 2014, a day before she premieres her latest movie with co-star, Idris Elba – “No Good Deed”.

Taraji speaks to the mag on how she struggles with accessing the power of influence in the industry- “I’m still treated like I’m on the D-list,”. “I’m still being considered with actresses who haven’t done half the stuff I’ve achieved. When people tell me no, I get hyped,” she shares. “Because when I prove that I can and will, I love watching people eat crow.

She also shares some secrets with the mag as they find out 25 things we don’t know about Taraji.

On what body part she would like to fix in 5 years
My stomach. I get it from my mom, who had to get a tummy tuck because she didn’t exercise. I try to work out at least five days a week. But if it reaches the point where I am not satisfied, I’m just going to be like, “Can you suck this out of me? Thanks!”

On what her No.1 guilty pleasure is
Watching ratchet, ratchet television—like any of the Real Housewives shows, especially when they were fighting and a girl got her weave snatched out—that is my guilty pleasure. Sometimes, I’ll just sit in front of the TV, screaming, “Ratchet, ratchet, ratchet! Where’s the ratchet TV?”

@omoby, pls shut it, what do you know, was she the lead actress in that movie, NO, she was a supporting actress in that movie, she had very little to do with the 3 hour movie, how many years was that movie released (she played a housekeeper, surprisingly) her niche is tyler perry movies, that’s what’s pays her bill, pls if u don’t know shit, don’t come her and try to stunt.

bruno the way you talk to people is so not nice, you wouldn’t like people talking to you like that, would you? And Tyler Perry movies, such as the likes of temptations are really good; depicting life realities that hollywood mostly shies away from.

bruno, you really should learn how to talk to people. if u dont realise it yet, you always come off as harsh, critic and negative. you can make a point without insulting anyone or talking to them like you feed them.

I agree they have very similar facial bone structure. She needs to do one of those DNA tests African Americans do to find out where in Africa their family came from it may be the same village as Funke lol

      September 9, 2014 at 10:59 pm

I beg your pardon! She’s not on the D- list nor the B-list…if you don’t know she’s an Academy Nominated Actress…and that’s not someone on the D or B-list…. she just has to deal with the odds of being Black in Hollywood…

  4. Africhic

    September 9, 2014 at 9:05 pm

Perhaps you are still on the D-list !

    September 9, 2014 at 9:10 pm

Hollywood is a pretty turf circle… Majority of the black actresses and actors are still considered D list not even B. I don’t think it’s as a result of the number of movies, but it’s more on the kind of roles. Sometimes I feel that racism is still very evident in the industry, but once you look at the A listers and their roles, they can’t be compare to what the D listers have done. Ah well, one just needs to work extremely hard then.

Since you are black, it will be a lot harder. Sorry… A black Kim Kardashian will be begging for bread….

Taraji is awesome and has the courage of her convictions. What is lacking, unfortunately, is the grace and maturity that should be evident by now. She morphs from tough to ghetto, and back again, never settling into a comfort zone that would be universally desirable. She looks like a slut on the above Ebony cover. Does she want slut roles? If you present yourself as a slut, you will be offered slut roles….. or no roles. She should be more “classic” instead of whatever she is attempting to be. The real woman is quite lovely and should be more confident of herself at age 44. It’s really OK to act and look one’s age, when the age is that of a grown up woman, with class.

She’s wearing a “D List” getup in the picture. Sometimes this woman’s outfits are scary.

@Bruno. You don’t tell people to shut up because they have an opinion. Apply your maturity in your thought processes sometimes. You’re getting ridiculously annoying.

That is a slippery slope. Ignore him and ignore the posts you don’t like. You have that choice rather than to limit another’s choice.

I love taraji and quite honestly in my eyes she’s a brilliant actress, but the roles she accepts just makes it quite hard to figure what her aesthetics are….she’s an academy award nominee and she has great talent, she just needs to find that one ground breaking role, I pray she does so quite soon. Btw she looks amazing for 44, ever wondered why some black celebrities look better than their white counterparts when they clock 40 (and I’m not racist)

Hollywood has remained total white ever since its inception.everyother race has been complaining about its lack of inclusiveness for year to no avail.taraji is awesome, her crime for being handled not that way is just that she is black period
