“Pres. Jonathan Has Failed the Nation” – Lagos State Governor Fashola

FasholaLagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola is not impressed with what he has described as the inefficient manner in which President Goodluck Jonathan is running the country.

Fashola expressed his displeasure at opening ceremony of Women In Business Conference in Lagos on Monday, where he was a keynote speaker, Punch reports.

Calling the president’s “transformation agenda,” a failure, he stated:

“…where the North East is under siege and the economy has continued to nosedive, the transformation ambassadors have continued to distort the true information that all is well. All it takes to cripple our economy by those countries from where we buy oil is to say they won’t sell to us any longer.

“We have seen a good example where the country was denied access from buying arms. This is the situation we are in as regards importation of oil. In 2010 alone, we spent N2.5trillion importing fuel into this country. Now, we have less money to import. If we can’t pay for our oil importation, we all know its implication for the country. In not too distant a future, the fuel queues will return.

“The government has yet to give us power as promised, they have yet to give us fuel, we have yet to see the standard highways they promised. There are so many Nigerians living without electricity.

“Within their transformation period, thousands of people in the North East have been killed, thousands turned refugee in their father land, over 200 girls are still in captivity of insurgents and the North East is still under siege. With all these, the transformation ambassadors are telling Nigerians that all is well.”

Fashola also reportedly stated that “the president has done nothing to merit a second term.”

Fashola has spoken the truth. Jonathan has failed us. And gullible Nigerians will still vote for him using the religious/tribal sentiment. We Nigerians are the architect of our own misfortune. As long as we continue to use our heart instead of our brain, this rubbish governance is what we will continue to get. Muslim/Muslim or Christian/Christian ticket shouldnt be our headache. Infact, a pagan/pagan candidate that can truly transform Nigeria for the better should be voted in if possible. What has this religious sentiment brought to us other than anarchy?

2015 is just around the corner. Nigerians, we can get the change we want. We just need to vote right.

The same way you failed the poor in Lagos state, there are more poor and retched people in Lagos than any other part in the nation, Jonathan is not the problem of this country, you politician seeking for position should come up with your work plan and tell us how you will govern Nigerians better instead of to use the president as a yard stick for your selfish campaign

Not his fault everyone rushes to Lagos thinking it’s paved with Gold and end up in Shanties..same as Jburg in SA!!
You cannot place Fashola’s achievements next to Jona’s..that’s a big insult to Fashola…a man feted by even the insipid English Press.
Yes he could have done more but gentrification is the order of the day in all big cities and not just in Nigeria….trying to make it an enclave of the rich!!..
At the end of the day he outstripped all other 35 Govs says something about the state of the country and people’s expectations!!
Noticed how Fashola handled the Ebola crisis from being an epidemic of unimaginable proportions..if only Jona had handled Boko Haram effectively from the get go he would have been the Numero Uno come 2015….all I see is someone using Boko Haram to broker deals and amass enough funds for his political ambitions!!

Taipan! Kai, you took the words right out of my mouth. I have not heard one person in the opposition party say what they will do different to lead Nigeria to the so-called promised land. I keep saying that very soon, Jonathan will be blamed because someone’s car refused to start in the morning. These APC people should tell us their game plan. They know that many Nigerians don’t research their elected officials so they are hoping to use Jonathan-bashing as the theme for their campaign. While I do not completely agree with all Jonathan has done in office, I do agree that he has done some things. I really want an APC candidate to win so that they can transform Nigeria to a first world country in 4 years…mschewwwwww. People think its easy looking from the outside. Shey President Obama spent years campaigning and highlighting all the things that he could do differently in America. Now he is president and his hair is almost completely grey in less than 8 years. They should come so that Boko Haram will vanish overnight. They should come and solve all the border, power, and affordable healthcare problems, equip ALL the hospitals in the country, build enough refineries, fix all the roads, etc in the space of 4 years. Until I see what exactly, they are offering Nigeria. I am not buying. Its all the same dirty politics to me

Thank you Mr Fashola. The TANites are like Esau in the Bible, they would rather sell their birthright for a plate of porridge than wait a little longer. They have no value for truth, for them the end always justifies the means. They are really not so different from the almajiris in the North. Unemployment and long throat coupled with laziness has made them willing tools used to kill/distort truth and promote falsehood with their pens/laptops. They think they are erudite scholars and great debaters, but are empty barrels which make the loudest noise. Nigerians are getting wiser now, their emptiness and that of their paymasters are becoming too obvious.

Please Nigerians use your minds, not sentiments in the next elections. It should not be about tribe or religion or even political party, but the character of the candidate. Like Martin Luther King Jnr, I dream of a day in Nigeria when people will not be judged by their tribe or religion, but the content of their character.
For the sake of ordinary helpless Nigerians who are always the victims, please Father God show us mercy. Amen.

Continue drowning in the deceit of “Christian/Christian or muslim/muslim ticket doesn’t matter”. They have soooooo fed u their agenda that anyone that supports GEJ or anything other than apc is labelled as voting for religion. Why is this message so important to that party? Ok! If apc doesn’t have any ulterior motives, y do they have to sing this song? I believe there are a million and one good nigerians of either religion that could suit the political times. If Nigerians are voting GEJ cos of religion, why isn’t apc trying to field an amaechi or hobnob with a Donald Duke? Why are they stuck on northerners? Why are u people trying to guilt people for who they want to vote for? Have you read about buhari’s time in power? Do u know how sad those times were especially for the social value and freedom of Nigerian women? Do u even know it was an offence for single women to live alone when he was president? Have u read up on the money that went missing during his tenure? Let me not even get started with Atiku’s story.
people should take their values to the poles. Your Nigerian experience differs from mine. If uv shared some similar experiences where everything including the daily distribution of water was done based on religious biases, u wont spew this thing u r saying.
Plus whoever is championing this cause of accusing nigerians of voting cos of religion is voting cos of religion. The only way to sway ur votes is to guilt u for ur own choice.
No news can come up about GEJ without u ppl singing this thing. Religion my foot. Don’t vote for GEJ based on religion but u wont say anything about the former Adamawa state governor, Nyako forcing his deputy to resign when he (Nyako) was being impeached so that an unbeliever will not take over from him. U wont speak about the former first lady Turai holding this country to ransom months after her husband died so that an “infidel” wont take over.
U ppl should shut it with the guilting please. People will vote for who they want to. ..

and has GEJ tenure in 2014 been better? where are over 200 girls and women? Buhari might not be the best bet but neither is GEJ by any chance, We have seen what he has done so far and he really disappointed Nigerians cos I tell you Nigerians came out in large numbers to vote him 4 years ago, they really went all out for him. they trusted him and expected that cos he once had no shoes as he claimed he will feel the plight of the poor man, but there has been no difference if anything it has just gone from bad to worse. no one is/was expecting magic but just plain simple changes, he’s encouraging corruption and corrupt officials with clear eye was very painful to watch. we are tired of this “devil” let us try another devil.
I hate religion it has destroyed my country, GEJ and APC knows it and they keep using it, it is a real pity I have actually lost hope… If GEJ comes back I don’t want to be in this country to continue to witness the decadence. we keep saying APC to bring their own agenda.. I very much agree… but they are not even in power, the ones in power what is their agenda? what? what do they plan to do for us in the next 4 years? have they come up with it? we are not even holding people in office accountable but more interested in asking those seeking power abi na office.
BTW Fashola and GEJ =- Please there is no basis of comparism Fashola has done so much better and has also proven that he is a man of character. He is the best of the current set of politicians… take it to the bank. I live in Lagos (i hate it) but I cannot get a job anywhere else cos my function is headoffice and all the headoffice of most organization are in lagos, abj or phc… why is that? That is what makes Lagos not a place for the poor and not fashola. GEJ should ensure that federal presence is felt in other states how? – dredge the Niger and let there be a port there, or even another port in calalabar since we love to import than produce,, develop inter state train transport and stop importation of fuel then see if Lagos will be all that anymore. but no they would not instead you blame fashola for trying to make his very congested state better oh please…. the Duke is in PDP and there is no room for presidency in the PDP.
PS: My response is not just to you… just a general response.

All these points against gej for being president. The same president buhari once was. Why didn’t he lay a credible foundation since then? Why are some states especially the very states that produce this oil that is funding nigeria only feeling federal presence now? Why? Did these other states without federal presence as u claim have federal presence have it before then gej came and took it out?
What of the federal universities? See ehn, there are too many points to present for gej here. Tell us what apc will do, don’t tell us to give them a try by only bashing gej. If u are willing to tolerate fashola’s mediocrity as development for lagos, then nigeria should celebrate gej too

I truly with all my heart pity all of the Jonathan defenders here. You are all truly real fools. War torn Rwanda is so far ahead of Nigeria right now in terms of Governance it is disgraceful. And you as a Nigerian are sitting in your house with no light bad roads no jobs and are defending someone who is on the A list of richest presidents worldwide. How totally foolish do you have to be to not realise that you are being played, used and abused? If you don’t like what Fashola is saying fair enough, but to defend Jonathan is the mark of true and utter mental uselessness. Do you know how easy it is to build a road? It is sad the depths to which our minds have plunged. we have not been given a high level of education over time and that is why most of us remain ignorant and like to vote in people who ar just as ignorant because they remind us of ourselves. Do you know how much more money you will have to spend of you had electricity constantly? How can human beings so willingly ignore reality in defence of someone you don’t know who is busy chopping life? Jonathan has started producing Goodluck rice for elections. The Nigerian vote is worth a bag of rice. You should be ashamed.

As for fashola’s statement…fair enough, but oshodi, mushin and surulere is not enough. I can name over 200 problems with Lagos state… Fix your home before u come bringing down another’s. U ain’t coming out for presidency so please go focus on what’s left of your tenure.

Those who grew up in Lagos can testify to that…there are so many things he has provided to improve the quality of life of residents in Lagos that people don’t know about even in healthcare. I think those who have ridiculed his performance are people who don’t know better or those who grew up in other states

the one you are dying to vote for, what has he done? Dont give us tales of “he ruled 30 years ago”. 30 years ago, many countries developed like they were in the new millenium. as a man with total authority, what did buhari dooooo??? if he did enough back then, why arent there younger proteges ready to take over the mantle from him? y is this man whose bowels barely agree with him at this age so bent on leading nigeria? there is no great candidate for nigeria. no one can fix this country full of rotten people where ul start up a big developmental project and all the directors involved are interested in the money and not the project. when i vote i wont be giving a vote of excellence to Jonathan, i will be voting against the people who want to hold this country to ransom. it is that simple. if my vote for jonathan keeps northern extremists masquerading as Nigeria’s saviours; creating new problems so they can swoop in and play super man to these politically molded problems which are piled on the problem of terrible administration theyv drowned us with over the decades, then YES! that is enough; I AM VOTING FOR GEJ.
U are here talking about strongly holding unto failure, how about ur intention to return to failure by voting for Buhari? not just any failure, failure that set the path for our stagnation long before many of us were born. SHAME!

    Dear Gov
Thank you and your party for your constant tongue lashing and critiquing the presidency. APC is an opposition party that was supposed to bring relief and hope for people unfortunately they have lost the plot. When every politician that have lost influence in PDP and ran to APC to start mud slinging, its unfortunate that we are not buying that. Your party created a chaotic Nigeria just to give them room to discredit the president and may be deceive the people to vote your way.
The media has been bought over by you guys hence no one sees what you are not doing. There is so much propaganda but unfortunately we can see through all of them. Like I said earlier your case could be likened to that of a one eyed man in a city of the blind. If we have to ask, what have you done with your leadership, if not the case of the whitewashing the back of the cup, while the inside stinks. The media has all helped to keep the inside of the cup concealed. What have you done to better the people of Lagos considering that you are big on tax collecting and revenue generation? Why are a greater percentage of the roads in Lagos very deplorable? Why did a traveller/travel writer state that Lagos is the worst place he had ever visited, yet the Washington post abi uk mail wrote an epistle of how Fashola was the Jesus of Nigeria.
Lastly Gov. in all your critique you haven’t said any way forward, who deserves to rule this great Nation to our promise land. If you were all that why is your party not fielding you the clean vessel, or why are you not declaring to run for the position or is the position of Presidency over ambitious for you?. Trouble in the North East you say, but Atiku has never addressed his brothers over there, yet he can hold a press conference in Abuja condemning the state of the Nation and calling for international help. Why do all you wanna be leaders prefer to stand by and watch just to be able to get a shot at presidency? Why does it seem like just as the army was gaining grounds on fighting terrorists and just as we are about enjoying a little peace, then we here a cease fire, just when the army let their guards down, the terrorists resurfaces. A child who says his mooma will not sleep, that child better be prepared to stay awake too.
And hey, I remember the courts asked that you guys suspend the toll you are collecting on Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge; what happened, you flaunted the court orders and had your way till you got a counter injunction or whatever law gibberish that is. I remember also in the news that the individual that sued the government was being issued life threats, which he cried to the media and said the government should be held responsible if anything happens to him. How about all those stories now, well I guess the media has the people on their witch hunt list.
    Who will deliver our Nation?

Nigeria’s problem is not only at the leadership. IMO, this election is a waste of time, just like it was 4yrs ago. I really don’t care who wins, as I’m not going to vote for any of the current nominees. To me none of them seem competent, not Goodluck, not Buhari. Regardless of who wins, this country would still be ruled by the same merciless corrupt godfathers. Have you asked yourself, how come the same stale bodies keep getting nominated year in year out for the presidential election? I hear goodluck was the only one that picked up the nomination form from PDP, why? So all those rich people with political ambitions can’t afford 22M? Guess what? They refused to sell the forms to other aspirants. Why would they? So their bread and butter would stop ba? Seeing as oga Jonah na sure banker in giving access to the bread they are sharing.
Goodluck/Buhari/Whoever wins will not be the one ruling Nigeria in times to come, it’s the same old evil people behind the scenes that would keep playing the piper. So don’t ask me to come out and waste my vote on any silly election I don’t believe in.
When Obama was asking for second term, he listed all his accomplishment and gave reasons why he fell short on some of the promises he made. I haven’t even heard anything remotely close to that from this Jonathan dude, wasn’t he the one that failed to show up at the last presidential debate? And he still won….lol, let me go check out some of BN’s jokers section jare…..

It’s in Nigeria that you’d expect a government to announce every action it takes. That’s why you see pictures of GOVERNORS laying foundation for a public health facility, or borehole in a community. Like duhhh isn’t that what the job role entails? To do all that and more.
But when you don’t announce it’s like you’re not working.
I don’t think Goodluck is the perfect leader for Nigeria, but he’s doing a lot of underground work that will trigger massive growth & sustainable development, if the foundation is not eroded by someone else come 2015. At the moment, I do not see a better alternative come 2015 elections.
    Definitely NOT Buhari
The Chibok girls is an entirely different and sensitive issue. A lot of Nigerians are ignorant about our geography and terrain (myself inclusive). My dad showed me Chibok on the map, and the said forest these girls are being allegedly held. It’s not going to be easy to rescue them without there being high causalities. As it is, the are being used as shields to prevent attacks being carried out on them (Boko haram). And then our military has some BH sympathizers that give these guys info before hand.

Give us a step by step walk through of the effectiveness of the Buhari administration and how he intends to solve Nigeria’s problem. he should step forward and tell us how he intends to adapt to present day nigeria. he should give an account of his presidency.
fashola on the other hand should give account for lagos. why are u people so eager to exonerate fashola? the messed up roads we see in lekki (u will quickly say he is not the LG Chairman of lekki but it is in lagos state), the corruption in the state government. where are all those company taxes, toll gate fees etc going to? what is happening to the slums in lagos? lagos is just beautiful icing on rotten cake. someone once told me this and she was damn right. under all the glitter from the ports and business bases et al lies a state in near ruins.
u people are using people’s hard earned taxes to fund tinubu and now u want to take it to the national level with tinubu and these mallams. they will hold this country to more ransom than they are doing now.
ordinary nigerians can forget making it big. all the children of obas and offsprings of military corruption that hav been suffering from a desert period cos of their “lazy contract” daily bread being taken away from them will occupy everywhere; P.A, S.A, ministers, director generals, ambassasors, contracts. they will shift everyone in the 2019 elections from house of assembly to senators. we wiill be back to looking for square one… God forbid it!

Fashola should just put a stop to this Jonathan bashing. My vote goes to Jonathan next year whether you like it or not. May I also add that Jimi Abgaje has my votes too.

i see how religion has f**ked up our thinking in this country..the fact is we make religion an issue when it should not.the questions we should be asking is do these politricktians give a flying F**k about us.what are there far i dont see any candidate worth the vote..but thats just me.if only the educated class knew there function we would not be here, but instead they are all ass kissing these mediocre politians..i dont care if a juju priest wants to be president as long as he has the right leadership qualities which we lack in nigeria i will vote for him/her.

Do we have president in this country? I don’t think so. Oga Jona is an acting President.

APC banners/ads around Lagos say “Change”
I don’t know if anyone else finds it confusing.
The current executive (of the state) is APC, so when they direct my mind to CHANGE, with a broom atop the word, I’m thinking of sweeping out the governor, not of sweeping out the faraway (Abuja) PDP president (which must be their target, right?)
    It’s not a good ad.

    Fellow Nigerians,
It will take more than one person to fix Nigeria.
As those who love our country, let’s come up with ways of transforming our nation.
BTW Fashola, ( whom I like), should be compared to the governor of Bronu state and not GEJ.
When Ebola came he did not sit down and wait for Jonathan to come.He rose up as an elected leader and went to work.
We contained Ebola because him , GEJ , all Nigerians worked together.

The president is not the only elected leader in Nigeria. Other elected officials should do their jobs… from local government chair men to governors, to those in the house, local and federal. How many times have an ordinary citizens walked up to their congress man to discuss issues that are bordering them?
How many of you have seen them after they are voted into office? How many times have they had a town hall meeting with you?
As you blame Jonathan for BH, blame him also for kidnapping in my village. No one has ever called him when people go missing in my town.

Concerned Nigerians should research before they cast their votes. If you vote for someone because of a bag of rice , you are as guilty as the politician who gave you the bag of rice.

May God bless the dead.Fela has said it all!my people are stone-hearted and brainwashed hence, unincisive.they can’t even think straight.I believe there would have been unrest if every nigerian has a copy of the constitution.even if we had what would have happened!I don’t expect such from a cursed country anyways.I suggest the fans of jonathan should instead tell him to make the last everyone can go there seperate ways perhaps he will be good when he rules the south south.we can’t continue like this, jonathan will never make a difference if he rules for’s no must he rules nigeria,we can’t continue like this.revolution maybe the antidote.

Usually, the First Term of a Elected Officer is the time He does His Best!
Nigeria is OFFICIALLY Finished if Jonathan gets into Office for another term.

I am Igbo. I am a Christian but I would vote for BUHARI/FASHOLA anyday, anytime. It would even baffle your mind to hear that Buhari built four Refineries!!! For Christ sake..all the Refineries Niger has as a Country was built by BUHARI and all Jonathan could do is to remove the so-called subsidy. Sad.

Buhari recommended Dora Akuliyi for ministerial Appoitment! Buhari as PTF Chairman build more Roads than PDP 15 years in Office. I do not care if he is a Muslim. Can he get the Job done- that is my ONLY Criteria?

I have no doubt Jonathan is a good guy. No doubt!!! But I have every doubt if he is a Good President! Presidency must be built on Competence! Not if he is a Christian or Not? How in a sane Country would a Sitting President be collecting Re-election form on the same day/time Boko Haram terrorist is ravaging Mubi town and several others towns in the North east! The Number one Responsibility of a President is security of Life and Property, should he have forgotten.

Before you quote the Bible, read it again and think. Jonathan, Ayo “Kanye West” Oresejafor and Oyedepo in Israel, praying and posing for the Cameras.. I leave you with Mathew 5: 6

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

It is a big shame and unfortunately the Nigerian Church does not know it, that is why it is dancing like this in public. Why are we using the platform of a gospel that set others free to bind ourselves in a rot? Think Nigeria! think.!!!After much thought, I think the Politicians and Pastors are in a Gang-Up to render Poverty and Hardship on Nigerians

Nigerians have not yet suffered enough! Expect more suffering…and keep smiling
