Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola recently signed an executive bill to open a register for all sex offenders in Lagos.

Leadership reports that the register will complement the already existing crime data register to ease the processes by which law enforcement officials prosecute sexual offenses, including rape, sexual harassment, defilement of children, etc.

Speaking at a brief signing ceremony, Fashola advised all sexual offenders to desist from such heinous acts, warning that they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law irrespective of who the offender is and the way the issue is settled.

“…and very soon, we would start deploying people to the data rooms in the police stations across the state to gather the bio-data of offenders including their photographs and others.

He also noted that the register would enable employers know whether prospective employees’ have a criminal record.

This is a progressive step towards tackling sexual violence even though we still have a long way to go.

Thank you our honourable governor . Pls sir let us take these landmark achievements even further. By ensuring that sexual offenders are apprehended and face the law. Particularly serial sexual offenders . A good example is the countless & recent rape allegations made against “prince Daniel”. Good bless you sir and all your remarkable efforts in ensuring that Lagos state remains our esteemed centre of excellence that it is …..
