Omotola is beautiful sha. Why? @ Bunor I agree this photographer messed up with logo that big Haba! I’m sure these are not Omotola’s official pictures because I am following her and I’ve seen people from the event including this guy posting pictures. I really am waiting for official pics . Need to see the full length of her dresses. This lady is truly a classy queen.

I’m sorry I dont buy into this omotola hype..she is highly overrated. she is not a good actress..nigerians and their bandwagon mentality..ppl just like Omotola bcos she has 4 kids and is relatively young…she is no queen of nollywood…genevieve is a way better actress than her anyday….omotola psychophants keep ur comments to urselves..

Lmao, watch out now! A lot of her fans (not all because I like her too hehe) are a little bit like the Beliebers, Navy and Barbs i.e. immature, partially cuckoo and a tad vicious lol. They’ll come swinging at any given moment. Omotola is famous no doubt but she’s neither the queen of Nollywood nor as famous as her PR are trying to make her out to be.

What is Omotola’s brand? I HAVE NO CLUE! What is Mercy’s brand? Her ever flowing tears, versatility and of course, figure. Patience? Her one of a kind cruel roles. Aki & Pawpaw? Their mischief and size. Genevieve? Her sex appeal, landmark deal with Lux (she set the pace for endorsements in the industry) and of course, for setting the pace for leading ladies in the industry. All the male who is who of the industry has starred in a movie with Genevieve as their leading lady and that is why she EARNED the title of Queen of Nollywood.

Does any of these make Omotola less talented? Heck no, but it’s good to keep things 100. She’s beautiful, talented and a good actress. We love Omotola in my region but nobody knows her as the queen of Nollywood… actually, the first time I saw that term being used with her was from her PR people who are clearly throwing it around and trying to make it stick. She’s known as Omosexy and Genevieve as Queen of Nollywood, so if she wants the latter, she has to EARN it 😉

Well, considering it was her name that just made the Forbes or Times list as one of the highest grossing international acts in the world, as well as holding the record for highest grossing cinematic film in Nollywood (Last flight to Abuja) I think that will qualify her as QUEEN OF NOLLYWOOD. And within the first five years what movie has Genevieve made that she should boast about except for Tango With Me? Her last movie was Weekend Getaway which was horrid, Doctor Bello which was even worse, and HOAYS which she had two scenes in… yeah… Omotola on the other hand has Up Creek, Amina, Last flight to abuja, TIES THAT BIND (INCREDIBLE FILM)…

And what is Omotola’s Brand? Are you kidding me? Her brand is superwoman, lol. You say all the other brands as if it’s something to be proud about… dear, what you listed was type-casting, which is the worst thing you can do to an actor. They’re playing the same role over and over and over again. Omotola on the other hand is versatile as hell, she, Liz benson, Bimbo Akintola, and a few others can act any role. That’s why they’re considered the best… so…. yeah…

I can understand that Omotola hasn’t worked on anything in a while so this must be another way to keep her name in the audience’s consciousness because I can’t think of any other reason why this was an absolutely necessity replete with outfit changes. Meryl Streep who is considered the greatest film actress of all time, a woman who has had 19 Academy Award nominations having won 3 and whose stage debut was in 1971 yet she has NEVER had a big old party to celebrate her contribution to the acting/entertainment industry. Meryl’s been at the job for 43 years and while she has been recognized for her work with awards and parties, it was done for her by her colleagues. Nollywood! I hail una with all this vainglory.

Sha, I guess if no one go clap for you, you can always clap for yourself. I hope everyone had a grand time…wait, o I don’t see her husband and kids nor most of her colleagues from her nascent days like Rita D, RMD, Stephanie O, Bimbo Akintola, her most frequent collaborators Ramsey Nouah and Lancelot Imasuen, Jim Iyke, Desmond Eliot. Maybe they didn’t post most of the pcitures? I doubt it. I bet you these people didn’t come because you RARELY ever see Omotola at other people’s events. I have seen tons and tons of pictures on blogs from parties, awards that celebrate others and she’s rarely seen. Every party picture I’ve seen of her has always been at an event solely for her or about her.

      January 27, 2015 at 10:57 pm

So… your point is? has she or hasn’t she been in the industry for 20 years? Is she or isn’t she the lead of the highest grossing African cinematic film? Has she or hasn’t she been spotlighted by international brands as the biggest film star in Nollywood? No? Yes? It hasn’t even been up to a year since her film UP CREEK premiered so, I don’t know what you’re talking about her not doing anything recently. Is she supposed to be doing films everyday after 20 years in the industry? She has a production house, she’s producing a TV series, and she has other business ventures… so,again, I ask, what was the relevance of your comment? Did it make you anymore fufilled? Did you win even one more award than her? Please, if you have no point to make, it’s not by force to comment. Thank you

    • eyong

      January 27, 2015 at 11:06 pm

And yes, dear, Mery Streep has had SEVERAL parties in celebration of her. So has Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Taylor and others… And incase you have forgotten so soon, LAST YEAR Genevieve, RMD, Rita Dominic and a whole host of others came to celebrate her making the Forbes list so…. Same thing for when her husband hosted her suprise birthday party. They all showed up…so…

Let’s get one thing straight, I am actually a fan of Omotola Jalade Ekeinde as an actress. My point is that this is some self serving publicity generating bs which should be above her but will never be because she can’t live without the spot light. She feeds off of attention. Why is Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs NOT throwing parties for themselves to announce that they have been in acting for 40 plus years since BEFORE Nollywood? This is a woman who pays people to monitor who is talking about her on the internet and if there isn’t enough buzz, she creates a buzz. This is was a blatant “see me see me” nonsense.

Actors like Meryl who have truly revolutionized acting on an international level, people whom others study to emulate don’t go around throwing parties for themselves, they are humble about their accomplishments etc. They let others do the back patting. THIS MY POINT, I stand by it and you don’t have to agree. The questions you asked me can equally apply to you, my dear Omotola voltron what awards have you won? Na by force to comment on my post? Maybe you should focus on winning awards some yourself so you can at least be on par with the person you are defending and not some follower supporting nonsense.

Madam or oga Eyong….ka ko yom itie tem mbom mbom fo, you hear me so? Translation: take several seats

Brad Pit? Nope. Sharon Stone? Nope. Kim Bassinger? Nope.. If this is not a publicity stunt to keep her name in the press, what is?

    January 28, 2015 at 3:31 am

@ eyong: Let me give you more facts to calm the stanning spirit in you lol. Every prolific star across the globe has a brand. A brand is what you are known for- it’s either you are known for playing the hero, being an action figure, lover boy or girl, villian, etc. Anthony Hopkins is forever known as Hannibal Lecter among other insane roles he played yet he’s considered one of the most versatile actors ever. Angelina Jolie is known for being bombshell that can kick a$$ but she’s also known for her versatility (Girl Interrupted, A Mighty Heart, etc). The list goes on. If you consider that typecast then best believe that everyone will want to be type cast as well. Branding means being known for that particular thing while showcasing your versatility as well. All the actors who played Superman, James Bond, etc are versatile with their work but their brand is built around a brand i.e. action heroes. Note the difference 🙂

AY’s latest flick just broke box office record as highest grossing film in Nigeria, does that make him king of Nollywood? NO. Let Pete Edochie, Olu Jacob, Ramsey Noauh catch him lol. Also, out of the 17 highest grossing films in Nollywood, 5 had Genevieve in it and 3 had Omotola; so what’s your point again? Genevieve’s top features include Half of A Yellow Sun, Weekend Getaway, The Mirror Boy (also the highest grossing film in Ghana!), Ije and Tango with Me. Omotola’s are Last Flight to Abuja, Ije & A Private. Funke Akindele is tied with Omotola at 3, so I guess she’s queen of Nollywood too huh?

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_Nigeria

  20. Majorie

    January 28, 2015 at 4:30 am

    Long a$$ lesson continued lol….

@eyong: What’s wrong with Genevieve appearing in two scenes in a movie? It’s called special appearance, hello? Every A-Lister has done so and filmmakers use prolific stars for special appearances to boost the film. Guess what? Genevieve was spotlighted immensely even though she only made a special guest appearance and that speaks volumes. Didn’t Omotola have one line in a TV show where they didn’t even bother to pronounce her name correctly or give her proper credit at the end? Yet they highlighted Akon who she appeared with as a special guest. So once again, what’s your point?

Being a superwoman (whatever that means to you) makes her queen of Nollywood? Bwahahaha. Then half of the industry should be kings and queens too because a lot of them wear many hats as well- they are famous, married with children, involved with charity work, feature in a lot of films, snag endorsements, etc. Omotola making Yahoo’s list of highest grossing star you’ve never heard is clearly PR move. If you argue that it isn’t then please explain how she made the list when her box office figures were listed as UNKNOWN! What other factors did they use to determine that? Where are the figures? *crickets*

There’s nothing more discrediting to an actor’s worth like stans who argue blindly and overhype them instead of allowing their talents to speak for itself. I’ve said it time and time again and will continue to say it >>> Omotola is a BOSS! Omotola is TALENTED! Omotola is BEAUTIFUL! Omotola is REMARKABLE! But her PR and stans need to calm down with the hype before they spoil her market (in the words of my lovely Nigerian friends hehe). I give props where its due regardless of who it is just like I have no problem pointing out fishy things or dishing constructive criticism when the need arises.

Majorie u r trying so hard to make a point but I’m lost.. I learnt that in media, no publicity is bad, so what do u mean when u say “but her PR and stans need to calm down with the hype before they spoil her market”? Lilian Bach, Shan George, Regina askia, victoria iyama and all others aren’t on top becos they were hypeless. U always have a way to say something bad about omotola even when there isn’t.. It isn’t by force to comment. The post isn’t “who is ur best actress” u guys need to chill and stop looking like sounding brass.

    • Majorie

      January 28, 2015 at 5:58 pm

You are lost by choice because my points are clear. Plus I dished out facts and even enclosed a source which you conveniently failed to address lol. Regina left the industry/country ages ago to start a family and a new life. The rest of the people you mentioned were not the biggest names to begin with and neither you nor I know why they haven’t been seen lately. Some people leave the industry by choice, some go behind the scenes or into other industries, some leave due to personal/family issues and others leave due to difficulty finding work. There’s no bad publicity is music for the gods and for stars who don’t have specific image to uphold. For example, Jim Iyke and Tonto love scandals while Ramsey Noauh and Genevieve stays away from them. A scandal/stunt that worked for people like Jim and Tonto can ruin the reputation of people like Ramsey and Genevieve. Ask celebs who have lost deals or who got dragged by the media/public for something that came to light if they still think that there’s no such thing as bad publicity lol.. Anyways mister preacher, this is a discussion and we are all dishing our opinions, so you can give your two cents without losing sleep over someone else’s. I’m enjoying reading everyone’s input, yours included lol :p

  21. Majorie

    January 28, 2015 at 8:40 am

@ Bella Naija: How come you didn’t post my previous comment? Mmh…. *suspicious* lol..

@ eyong: out of 17 highest grossing movies in Nigeria, Genevieve’s films are 5 of them (Tango With Me 2010, Ije 2010, The Mirror Boy 2011 *also highest grossing film in Ghana*, Weekend Getaway 2012 and Half of A Yellow Sun 2014), while Omotola’s films are 3 of them (A Private Storm 2010, Ije 2010 & Last Flight to Abuja 2013). Genevieve stars in box office hits year after year and her total gross surpasses Omotola’s by wide margin (look it up), so the number of films one stars in doesn’t mean anything because even the newcomers in Nollywood have all starred in like a million movies in one year lol. On a side note: AY’s flick is the highest grossing of all time… so evaluate your sources.

Secondly: A brand (signature or whatever you prefer to call it) is what you are known for and every actor aims to have one. Even Meryl Streep who is highly regarded for her versatility is even more regarded for her niches which are- her exceptional impersonation skills and tendency to play ice cold roles. Same goes for Anthony Hopkins who is wonderfully versatile but carved his niche as the perfect “madman”. Mercy Johnson is known for her moving tears and versatility as well be it in form of a hawker, escort, miscreant or whatever. Two examples of stars who have been typecast in Nigeria are Mr. Ibu and Eniola Badmus but that doesn’t negate their skills either… it just means that they haven’t branched out of playing same/similar roles. So go ahead and kindly learn the difference 🙂

    • eyong

      January 28, 2015 at 10:12 pm

Lmao, my dear, you’vve said alot, and sqid nothing at the same time. Abeg, drink cold water and simmer down. The fact still remains Omotola has been A list before genevieveand has maintained her status until today. So, yes, if she wishes to celebrate her achievements she has every right to do so. And for all the now how you seem to be vlaiming, you seem to be missing the fact that she still holds more endorsements than genevieve, she still has more awards than genevieve, she has been apotlighted on more international level than Genevieve. (Yes, actually, she has) and in my personal opinion is still a much better actress than genevieve. And accordig to the panning Gen got for HOAYS and Doctor Bello, and weekend getaway, as opposed tothe praise omotola gets for her most recebt roles, I think that makes her the better candidate for the QON. Also, no, again… what you stated are jot brands, they’re type casts. Same way, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, and several “pretty actresses” have admitted to having to ugly themaelves in other to be taking seriously. If anything, Genevieve is the one without a brand. She started ainging, stopped. Went into fashion designing, stopped (JJust recently returned) Now her most profilic job which is acting, she isn’t doing either. Except for red carpet events here and there, she really isn’t doig much. Understandably, maybe she simply fell out of love with it. That’s cool. But don’t down play Omotola’s efforts in other to elevate others. She has to keep herself relevant. There’s a reason American actors go on media tours and red carpets from the oscars to cannes film festival even when not promoting a film. It’s how the game works, that’s why none of the other actors she atarted out with can hold a candle to her, she is still very relevant today becauwe ahe works hard to be. And do you really think there’s no business aspect to this? The events are being funded and she might very well be getting a very hefty paycheck from Pampers and the other brands she endroses. So, please stop all your barking.

What are you supposed to do on an article if it’s not to read and comment? You have given your own input, so allow others to give theirs too even if you don’t like it. Conversations, debates and even arguments is what makes these articles even more interesting.

omosexy congrate. pls be mute about dream killers. if i hv my way i wil do more. there’s absolutely nothing wrong in personal thanksgiving. u are not just an actress , but a mother, and a wife. i dey ge u. u did not scandalize urself by messing around with ur colleague in d game like we all knew about others. u did not hv a child out of wedlock. so wat else is it to qualify a good mother, wife and actress dat u are. u don win…………… keep moving higher. hv not met u nor anyother face to face, but i read through all the comments, what i saw was hatred, jealousy etc. as for me u are one in a million. hv a nice day.
