He Deserves another Chance – Mercy Johnson Okojie on Voting for President Goodluck Jonathan

Mercy Johnson - December 2013 - BellaNaija 04More Nollywood stars are adding their voice for the upcoming elections and actress Mercy Johnson Okojie is going on record to say that President Goodluck Jonathan deserves a second chance at being President.

In the past few days Rita Dominic, Desmond Elliot, Omoni Oboli, Ramsey Nouah, Monalisa Chinda, AY Makun, Chidi Mokeme, Chinedu Ikedieze and more have made their votes known.

In an interview with iCampus Mercy Johnson reveals that “He deserves another chance. This is a president who has good intentions for the nation. He is by no means a perfect man but he means well and he has apparently learnt from his weaknesses in the last four years. We must continue to believe in this great nation of ours. Nigeria belongs to us. The president cannot do it alone. He needs our help and we should not let him down at a time like this when he needs our votes to get the job done.”

Do you agree?

mercy johnson don fall my hand sha. presidents shouldnt be given second chances wen they have done wrong, thats why we have elections to remove bad eggs. yes Buhari might not be our cup of tea either, however jonathan has been given 5 years to prove himself, buhari needs to as well, and if hes not competent we then remove him.

That can’t be possible….Mercy did agree that the Jonathan has his weaknesss..He has been president for the past 6 yrs , what have we really achieved…Nigeria isn’t an experimental ground…this is our Jerusalem…where we need to improve better lives for ourselves and generations yet unborn.Goodluck has to be voted out…we need CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Awoyo

    February 4, 2015 at 3:33 pm

…he shouldn’t. It’s been 6 years with little to show for it. Our excess crude account has been depleted at a time when countries like Kuwait and Saudi Arabia were able to save during the oil boom years. President Jonathan has shown me that if he is given a chance the next 4 years will be business as usual….he and his cohorts do not really care about us, except for the power they are seeking.

“a people always get the type of leader they deserve”- J el-nino…… with statements like “he means well and he has apparently learnt from his weaknesses in the last four years” being uttered by the electorate it is no surprise the country is in its current state of plenty wahala. Mercy do you think governance is game? or child’s play or a trial and error process? or did bros GEJ. personally come to tell you he has learnt from his mistakes (which would include?…….) and he is willing to address these lapses hence -these are the corrective measures he would implement (if elected/returned to office).???????. I’m really disappointed in Mercy ooo!!!! let us put sentiment apart and appraise the current administration on the merits of its performance (scorecard) and stop releasing dumb statements (non-factual) like this please…….. these elections are not a joke, neither are they an opportunity for every actor/actress/artiste to form popularity or to show face or put mouth………..

I have no beef with GEJ and I am not a GMB sycophant either… That being said Jonathan obviously has had enough time to prove himself. Even if he didnt plan for the 1st 2yrs as the HNIC he hasnt done much in the last 4 either. Most importantly, I have a daughter. N I cant vote for a guy who hasn’t done enough in my opinion to guarantee my daughters safety in this nation. So I wish him well, just not as the President of this country. GMB also needs to get his act right if he wins. Will vote for him now, but if its this same story in 2019 he should leave the seat as well. #SorryForMyEpistleGuys!

GEJ that couldn’t fix Nigeria when crude oil was 100 usd per barrel…….is it now that its now 50 usd per barrel that he wants to fix it?

    February 4, 2015 at 4:55 pm

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did not deserve second term in office period. Considering everything that has happened/ is happening in Nigeria today. Firstly, This man should have been impeached for creating the office of the First Lady, which is contrary to what the Nigerian Constitution says. As the comander in chief of the federal republic of Nigeria he broke the law of Nigeria without any consequence and he wants Nigerians to reward him with the second term. Hell no. Femi Fani Kayode is busy crying, and begging for Nigerian’s to reward this criminal with a second term. (Femi) you are a lawyer who should be on the right side of the Law, instead of the wrong side of the law. Femi you are raised better than that. shame on you Femi Fani- Kayode
Secondly, This man does not know what it takes to be a politician he has demonstrated time and again through his action and inaction that he is not presidential material. Take a look at how long it took him to even acknowledged the kidnapping of those Chibok school children, not to forget the insecurity situation in the northern part of the country . You all call that being presidential? No president should feel less concerned about his/her people plight like this president has demonstrated period. Put yourselves in the shoes of those parents whose children were kidnapped, or those who have lost family members, properties or displace and turned to refugees within their own country. Do you believe they will vote for Jonathan? Vote out Jonathan on February 2015.

    especially those

Exactly! No one is buying their trashy movies any more, she has two kids and a jobless husband to feed. Second chance to a man whom thousands of the population has been slaughtered on his watch while he does nothing. The man took control of a country when he was elected, and six years later can’t even account 1/4 of it. What a bunch of talentless and money hungry idiots.

  26. Layo

    February 4, 2015 at 5:33 pm

GEJ had his chances, he blew it. Buhari may not be the messiah, but GEJ has divided this country along ethnic and religious lines. It took Malala Yousafai for Jona to believe Chibok girls were missing. The oil subsidy fraud is yet to be dealth with. Ali Modu Sheriff of BH is his close pal, Okonjo is preaching austerity measures while they have budgeted for another private jet. The list is endless. Let us vote with our conscience. But I believe, we should use our vote to send a message to the politicians, perform or we vote you out.

    • kadoo

      February 5, 2015 at 12:54 am

The opposition are the ones dividing this country along ethnic lines and when they come full circle in their grand plans against GEJ, they won’t be able to handle the schemes they had just started..

I am not saying Buhari is a saint or any other aspirant. The most focus here is looking for that day where we will hold our leaders accountable be it spiritual or governmental!!#pissed

Dear Nigerians, since the advent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the major watchword has been ‘change’ but we shouldn’t forget that the APC was formed as a coalition of the CPC and AC. Now, what kind of change do they promise exactly?
Perhaps change from the status quo as we know it. However is the APC capable of bringing about such change?

Without a doubt, GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN administration has brought about progress in myriad sectors of the country: Agriculture, Financial empowerment for entrepreneurship, Transportation, Education etc.

The major impediment to this government has been insecurity, arising from the insurgency plaguing parts of the North-East. It is pertinent to note that this insurgency was both fomented and groomed in the North, specifically in the regions under the governance of the then ANPP (Borno and Yobe). This has led to an undermining of all the efforts the GEJ administration has put in place to uplift the nation.

Great Nigerian citizens should we then give our vote to the potential endangerment posed by the APC under the guise of ‘change’, or support a man who has literally transformed the nation and is ready to do more?

Let’s support the continuity of transformation agenda of GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN.

      February 4, 2015 at 7:42 pm

      Dear Daddi Okupe,

Jonathan cannot lead, it is clear to everyone. The achievements people keep listing are just audio, we didn’t see anything, we are not feeling him, he is a terrible example of what a leader should be. We need change we need something different. If GMB wins and he is as bad as Jonathan or even worse, we will wait another 4years just like we waited for Jonathan and vote him the hell out. Its nothing personal we are just tired of his weakness, we deserve a better leader.

    February 4, 2015 at 7:38 pm

Give him second chance to continue his stupidity, give him second chance and let boko haram double their actions of killing because they know he cant do jack shit…. Am from same place as this man but I dislike the man like crazy, nollywood actors and actress are benefitting from payroll so they can wag their mouth like fools calling black colour grey…Jonathan did this and that for the movie industry but what about power, education, health, aviation, road etc….who is voicing out the issues affect the common man without job or grey future…..I don’t care how he got in but this man been sworn in twice and nig. Const. U are only allowed to be sworn in twice, what the hell is he going to do magically that he can’t do for 6 or 7 years given to him…cos am confused here, Nigerians are just too blind to see the truth and the one willing to speak out will given few change and the story changes……mercy u are lucky to have job and build a house in Ajah , go for child birth in the state due to safety concern but for rest of Nigerians that can’t afford such luxury or families of chibok girls and missed placed person we beg you and your fellow whatever to pleaseeeee SHUTTTTT UP! For once in your life…..fools and have little or minimal respect for you lots. Sai buhari….changeeeee

  34. Vic

    February 4, 2015 at 7:45 pm

This will mean he will be sworn in for the 3rd time…..smh, it only in Nigeria….people should open their eyes and let this man go back to southern Nigeria for good and rest with politics because the has nothing to offer Nigerians in term of economy growth…….Nigerians like to suffer that the only reason to bring him back him….I feel sorry for growing children and Nigerians at large…Sai buhari.

  35. bbz

    February 4, 2015 at 8:45 pm

hmmm. where do i start from..

So Jonathan has been in power the President for about 6 years now and he was ones a deputy Governor and Governor before he was the VP yea? Which tells me that he is very familiar with politics and being incharge. Now the issue thats most disturbing to me right now is that should he not be more familiar with ruling the country especially because he has been in a similar situation before? Although we can not exactly compare being a Governor and being a president but at least it all has to do with makign your people happy and doing as much as possible, if not all at least try your best to provide basic infrastructures like security, electricity, clean water, food, jobs and making the economy somewhat better from when you started.
Now thats one reason why i am not in support of him getting another chance either now or in his second life.

Secondly, his mentors and those incharge of his office are criminals, politicians that are in the records of other country and Nigeria for corruption, stealing and doing drugs, so why in Gods name will i give a second chance to a man that is not able to carefully select his aids and people he listens too and takes directions from.
Just like my mother would say show me your friends/mentors/acquintancies and that would exactly tell me who you are or how you would live your life.

So no Mr GoodLuck Jonathan, you have done your best but its a shame that after a whole 6 years, your best is still not good enough. For this reason, we need to get you out of Aso rock and give someone else another chance. If Buhari decides not to try his best and provide basic amenities that countries around the world are enjoying like AIR then we will ones again be good Nigerian citizens and vote you out. Me i cannot shout!

My prayer now is that this election will be peaceful and any, boy, girl, man, woman, young or old who says it wont go smoothly, will all be rendered useless and impotent before Feb 14th, because i serve a God of peace that wants the best for his Children and their future.

… and to Mercy Johnson, i wonder why those in other countries like USA, Canada, Australia, decide not to travel to another country to have their babies. or maybe it is because in these countries, there is security, peace of mind, and basic infrastructures that they all enjoy and so for that reason they would rather live, work, pay tax, die and train their children there.

    February 4, 2015 at 8:59 pm

People please!!! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!! We would not know what could be if we don’t give GMB a chance. We cannot keep rewarding under-performance and bad governance, which is essentially what we would be doing by voting for Jonathan. He has stolen enough money to secure the future of his family so win or lose they are covered. You, we, the average citizens of Nigeria are not covered. It is better to explore other options in our thirst for change than be complacent and knowingly settle for mediocrity.

Ask yourselves, if your daughter or sister was one of the missing Chibok girls or if you have lost a family member to Boko Haram, will you stand up and vote Jonathan? A man who you know does not give a damn about seriously tackling the insurgency? Chances are you won’t. I agree that Jonathan may be a good man on a personal level, but he is not a good leader. We need a GOOD LEADER! So let’s stop being selfish and stop blindly campaigning for him only because we are not directly affected by the insecurities of this country. If things keep going the way they are under his ‘leadership’, you don’t know when your family will be the one weeping because of his nonchalant leadership. It’s easy to say God forbid, but it’s more important to take action. So let’s all wake up as one and give ‘change’ a chance.
