“I am so proud of you. You can never be bought.” Sharon Osbourne Supports her Daughter Kelly Quitting Fashion Police | E! Issues Official Statement

Published

 on

Fox's Cause For Paws: An All-Star Dog Spectacular - ShowExcept you were living under a rock last week (or just didn’t check out BellaNaija) 🙂 you should know about Giuliana Rancic‘s ‘weed’ statement on Zendaya‘s locs at the Oscars on E!’s Fashion Police.

Giuliana then issued an apology after Kelly Osbourne threatened to quit, saying she “does not condone racism”. Now the network has officially confirmed her exit.

“Kelly Osbourne is departing E!s Fashion Police to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers. Fashion Police will return, as scheduled, on Friday, March 30th at 9:00 p.m. and no decisions have been made on her replacement.”

Although Kelly herself has not addressed her quit yet, her mother Sharon Osbourne (@MrsSOsbourne) tweeted the following on Friday,

[email protected], I am so proud of you. You can never be bought. You always wear your heart on your sleeve. #ProudToBeYourMum”

That’s a heavy dose of phoniness on Kelly’s part. I think we all know Guiliana Rancic was NOT trying to be racist! She was going for shock humor which is what the show is known for, but unfortunately, her humor wasn’t very humorous. That’s her fault no doubt, but she shouldn’t be crucified for what Joan Rivers was praised for On the same platform. I think Kelly saw the show was going down hill, and she thought this was a good excuse to escape on a high note. Plain and simple! She’s no heroes, just an opportunist with a british accent.

Thank U. Let’s be clear, I just wish everyone will drop this issue. I get it Celebs are reaching out to this young girl, we get but Mrs. Rancic apologize immediately after they comment she made about the hair. We all know she’s not. Racist and she’s never done anything stupid like this in her Career. I just wish everyone will give her some slacks because if it was Joan Rivers or another Comedian who made the Statement, everyone will definitely laugh it off.. #everythingdoesnthavetobeblackorwhite# smh..

you don’t “GIVE HER SOME SLACKS” you “CUT HER SOME SLACK” if you don’t know how to use a phrase properly just leave it so you don’t fool yourself, i apologise if this may come off rude but we all learn everyday! Ciao!

      March 1, 2015 at 8:49 pm

@Lena, you are right, your (hopefully well intended) comment does seem slightly rude in spite of the perfunctory apology you attached to it. In any case, to follow your example the right phrase is “to make a fool of yourself” not “to fool yourself”. After all, “… we all learn everyday! Ciao!”.

Lol! You all got punked! Kelly was FIRED! FP is just being politically correct. You sell out your colleague, threaten to leave the show and blame your bosses (producers) for not cutting out the part? Of course you’ll get fired. That’s why she hasn’t tweeted since the incident as she’s still in shock! Her last tweet was about Giuliana’s apology.

bye kelly, it was nice knowing you. this is the last time we would hear about kelly Osborne ever. (unless she makes a sex tape)

fashion police is not going to be interesting anymore.

black people always ruining everything since 1900

the funniest part is, if I ask some of you what did guilliana say about zendaya’s hair, some of you dont even know. you are just joining the crowd to shout racism

if I ask some of you, what is patchouli oil, some of u dont even know what it is. you are just shouting racism blah blah blah.

almost all the jokes on fashion police are written by comedy writer. that joke about zendaya’s hair was written by a comedy writer of fashion police.

I don’t why everyone is blowing this out of proportion.

in some few years, nobody will want to talk about black people because any some thing small mistake they become vexed. long hiss.

      March 1, 2015 at 7:05 pm

Why don’t you stfu if u got nothing to say. FYI everybody tells their own jokes on f.p. Guiliana said herself in her apology “it’s not what she’s done that matters but the outcome of her actions “. Some ppl were offended by it hence the apology. If kelly wants 2 quit d show, what has “black people ” done to ruin it ? It’d be better if u had just stated ur opinion w/out discriminating on an already sensitive topic (racism).

I am happy she put her foot down, but I am not sure why she threatened the network to quit. In things like this, one needs to be wise and apply diplomacy. U won’t condone certain behaviors, but what r ur options outside that environment? But then again, it’s racism, u don’t need to kind of environment. All the best to you Kelly!

Oh please, what Kelly did to Guilliana was wrong, pure and simple. That’s your colleague and your workplace. When she said it why didn’t you say oh Guilliana that’s not cool, don’t say that. You shut up and then went ahead to threaten her to apologize on air on twitter of all places. Its even best she leaves cos I don’t know how Guilliana can bear to work with her now. I don’t even know any gig she can get that’s better than E. Even employers will be wary of her cos she neither had E!s nor her co-host’s back.

Giuliana was warned thrice during the shooting of that segment not to say that but she defied all warnings and exposed her ignorance. Everything is staged, so Kelly cannot correct her during the filming, but behind camera.
Kelly had to seperate herself from the fiasco because people were trying to pull her into it on twitter. I applaud her for protecting her integrity, perception is reality in America. She had to clear the air

Aaaarghhh! It’s so sad nobody actually followed up in this story… Kelly was accused and insulted on twitter because most pple assumed she was the one that made the “racist” comment. So all she did was just to safe face.. That’s all! If she decided leaving the show was best for her fine!

    • isis

      March 3, 2015 at 11:18 pm

not lime am all out for Kelly, but let us get one thing straight, racism is a very serious stuff and it deserves serious attention. diplomacy does not resolve racism by action or comments, speaking up does.

I agree Kelly does have a lot of integrity and is such a real girl.. Wish her all the best with her future endeavors. I just wish Joan Rivers was still alive.. Things really wouldn’t have gotten this bad. I hope E would do some damage control as this whole brouhaha would definitely affect the shows ratings.

Mama Osbourne but yet your daughter was on a show that criticised people alot. Joan God bless her soul was harsh and often times I found alot of her jokes cruel and spiteful, and downright disrespectful but yet your daughter stayed on. I have read elsewhere that that joke was written not by Guyana herself but by the E team and also that that show was recorded before it went live now if these allegations are true then daughter dearest knew before hand and yet did not speak up if There were no racist undertones and no backlash. Your daughter dearest will not have walked away from that show. Infact if Joan had made that comment a few eyebrows would have been raised because Joan was the queen of inappropriate remarks. So please stop trying to paint your daughter in a good light.

What is with the double standards I mean if Joan could get comedic passes over her comments then Giuliana can get one too.

Fashion Police has been boring since Joan’s death and George’s departure. I think Kelly knew that things were going south, and she is just using this as an opportunity to make her exit before the show hits rock-bottom. I think it’s a smart decision and I’m sure she will be fine. As for Giuliana, I do feel for her since her comment obviously wasn’t about race, but the fact remains that it was a lame, unfunny joke penned by the writers, and she failed to pull it off. Joan Rivers could get away with a lot because of her age, experience and reputation, but Giuliana is no Joan. A hard lesson for her, but she will be absolutely fine. She is one of E!’s biggest assets, no question.

Nigerians and our comPlacency with abuse. no time to explain but the is Giulianas comment reflect s subconscious bias Against an appearance that is unique to black people. Does she think she hates blacks? Probably not. But it means if someone talented showed up for an interview for a job and they Are wearing braids she will think they smoke weed. If you were hiring and you thought someone was on weed would you hire? No. That is the problem she was called out for.

Many of you are missing the point. If you have followed the story keenly you will discover that Osbourne admitted that zendaya is her friend. She is pulling out because she felt her friend has been unnecessarily bullied in a programme she co-host. Anyways, I think Osbourne overreacted!!!

Joan Rivers lived for comedy and pushing boundaries. Nothing was off limits for her. That’s comedy. Zendaya and other foks just took offense where there was no offense. If the new MO for the show is to make fun of everyone except black people, then the show is going to be canceled within a year.

    • concerned

      March 1, 2015 at 6:09 pm

Giuliana’s comments weren’t racist but they were offensive in the sense that they were deeply patronizing. What exactly was she trying to imply: that people put weed in their dreads, or that all people with dreads use patchoulli oil, or that you have to be hooked on weed to do dreads? That’s just ignorant and very condescending. As a black woman with dreads myself, I’d bet Joan Rivers could have said worse and I’d have laughed my ass off because Joan was a COMEDIAN. G should really stick to journalism. But something else a lot of people aren’t talking about: the fact that Kathy Griffin as the show’s lead host couldn’t take over and turn it into something funny shows her weakness as an anchor and it shows there is no substitute for greatness.
Anyway…if you read TMZ, you’ll know that Kelly didn’t leave because of Giuliana, but because she’s been having difficulties with the show’s producers since Joan died. G had nothing to do with it.
RIP, Joan. I miss you soooo much

“Blacks ruin everything?” I disagree. Black people DO have a persecution complex but its our defense mechanism. For centuries, we’ve been blackballed (no pun intended) and oppressed so excuse us if we come off as a little defensive sometimes. I didn’t even find what Giuliana said racist (though I found it offensive, still) and I agree that people are quick to join the “she’s racist” bandwagon without even knowing what its all about BUT the day people of other races stop making us feel that we constantly have to be on our guard is the day we’ll stop being defensive. Case in point: the Grammys. Of all the albums nominated, the Beyonce album had the most songs that charted. When it was time to give her the Grammy for Album of the year, it suddenly wasn’t about commercial success, it was about quality. Iggy Azalea was nominated for Record of the Year but John Legend wasn’t. Why? Because “Fancy” broke all sales records. Ah, but wasn’t it these same Grammy people who said “it wasn’t about commercial success?” There are so many incidents that make black people feel as if racism isn’t over (dont get me started on Treyvon, Michael Brown or the Oscars) and until they stop, black people will always have a chip on their shoulders.
So yeah, I disagree with you on that.

are u people kidding me. it is fashion police for crying out loud. they insult gay people, white people black people asians etc they even insult physically challenged people. I watched an episode were they yabbed angelina jolie and her adopted kids. the show is a mixture of fashion and insults.

I don’t think many of you watch fashion police that’s why u are finding that joke offensive. if u watch fashion police regularly, u will say that joke is a piece of cake. no big deal.

why is zendaya behaving holy. she has appeared on fashion police numerous times. she sat there quitely as they insulted everyone why didn’t she say, oh the jokes are too offensive.

The show is practical over. thanks to some black people who don’t know what racism is. the joke was said in a comedy setting no in an interview or in a phone call or something.

that grammy award album of the year is still paining you. sorry oh. beck has already engraved he’s name on that golden trophy and it is hanging on he’s shelf right now as we speak.

look at what kanye West did to beck at the grammys, he ruined he’s moment (as a musician u only win album of the year once in ur life). even at the after party, kanye west kept on ranting saying beck should respect creativity and return the grammy to beyonce. now just imagine if it was a white musician that did what kanye west did to a black musician. won’t every single black person start protesting, start shouting racism, black music matters will be a trending topic, start carrying signs and posters and start marching from alabama to washingston. lol

some few weeks ago benedict cumberbatch was doing an interview and he was trying to shine light on a topic about hiring black actors in hollywood and he mistakenly or unknowingly said coloured people instead of “people of colour”. the entire black race came down on him. calling him a racist. he meant no harm, he was trying to shine a light on the topic of hiring black actors, everybody missed the most important point.

they didn’t nominate any black actor at the oscars, immediately #oscarsowhite became a trend on twitter. how many of u people know anything about movies. the performances this year were very strong. they can only nominate 5 people in an acting category. selma is a boring movie when compaired to other movies nominated. other actors did a much better job in their movies when compaired to that david oyelowo in selma. jake gyllennaal was not even nominated and he was gave a much stronger performance than any one.

they insult people with blonde hair, black hair, pink hair etc on fashion police. I don’t know why everyone is blowing this out of proportion.

we black people have become the biggrst cry babies. any small thing we play the racism card.

I don’t know why black rappers and black people in general are intimidated by iggy azalea. she is mediocre at best. she can’t carry a song on her own. she always has to feature somebody to help her in a song. she got lucky with that song fancy. fancy is a nice song because of the chorus ,the verses are foolish. if u put her in a freestyle battle with any rapper she will embarrass her self.

you do realize the grammy awards nominated other popular musicians with popular songs. the grammys nominate popular music with artistic music.
iggy azalea didn’t win any grammy, black people are still complaining assuming she won a grammy, I wonder what would have happened.

beck winning that album of the year grammy is not about race.

remember when justin bieber was nominated for best new artist some years ago. he was the most popular musician on the planet that time, didn’t he lose to esparanza spalding, a black jazz musician (I was so happy when he lost lol).

pls stop calling racism every time, its unnecessary. white people are not always out to get us blacks. there are more important issues facing we black people. we need to work on our selves and our community.

the naacp awards that are for black people, beyonce and jay z were nominated and they won, did they show up to the award show. NO we don’t support our own.

Yes Kelly overreacted, but please don’t make it ALRIGHT for bad jokes to be told and you say “its fashion police” Giuliani Rancic is no JOAN RIVERS… Tell your jokes in a comical way that will provoke the needed response. Kelly reacted in the best possible way she knew how, i don’t and wont blame her, you say bye Felicia i say Welcome to open doors Kelly, she stood for what she believed in you cannot condemn her for that.

And Bruno i really hope as the racism issues irritate you, you actually do give your time and read every story as they come, if at this time and age you do not believe that The Grammy and Oscar Academies are the biggest SCAMS on earth, i dont know what to say to you.

It is always the offended that everyone looks to to be the bigger person and simply “forgive & forget” – after all anybody can make such “hateful” comment and when they apologize, it absolves them of the hurt and message already passed. I personally don’t like the “insult now-apologize-later” trend going on. She didn’t like it, so she resigned or got fired…..either ways, she made her stance on the matter known and that is all that matters. It is never okay to use a global platform to propagate negative impression about a particular race – even if it is FashionPolice

We all know u were fired. Plus lets see where ur career goes from this

  39. debs

    March 2, 2015 at 4:25 pm

I think people don’t have a clearer view on what caused the uproar. There was a time Kylie Jenner was wearing dreads and on this same “Fashion Police” Guilana commended Kylie’s dreads referring to it as “edgy”. Thereafter Zendaya wears dreads and Guilana likenes the smell to that of Patchouli oil and weed. Although Guilana didnt mean to be racist hopefully, that was the picture painted and Kelly got a huge backlash on twitter which made her tweet the statements on resigning.
Moreover G’s apology didnt sound sincere. It was more like a “fulfilling all righteousness” apology though Zendaya impressed me by accepting the apology regardless of how shallow it sounded. All the same, I wish Kelly and Guilana all the best in their careers hoping that some lessons have been learnt.
