PIC.6. PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI ACKNOWLEDGING CHEERS DURING HIS INAUGURATION IN ABUJA ON FTIDAY(29/5/15). 2819/29/5/2015/CH/NAN

In the aftermath of Boko Haram’s attacks on Maiduguri, Borno State on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the evil acts, and has promised to protect the security of Nigerians all over the country.

Buhari made the declaration via a statement released by the head of his media team, Garba Shehu.

Punch summarizes the content of the statement as follows:

The President warned that his administration won’t tolerate wanton and wilful destruction of life by criminal elements that are bent on anarchy.

He said  his administration meant business in its determination to tackle terrorism with all the resources available to his government.

Describing terrorists as cowardly murderers that target innocent people, Buhari explained that as the Commander-in-Chief, he has sworn to protect the security of Nigerians everywhere.

The President, while calling for increased vigilance by local communities, assured that his administration would give security close attention, and that his government was committed to boosting the morale of the  armed forces by effectively funding them and attending to their welfare.

He condoled the families of the victims of the latest terrorist attack on Maiduguri and assured them that the worst days of the criminal elements will be over soon.

This is not the job of the vice president, the vice president only do jobs assigned to him by the president. I knew PDP will be a terrible opposition and you are showing that. Why don’t ask you ask reasonable question like: Why he hasn’t revealed his cabinet members? When will they show their judicial reform plans? When will we know how they will spend the budget for 2015 that Jona signed before he left? What deadline we should give him for destruction of Boko Haram? When will they make their Asset declaration public? and so on. Joe Biden has never made public state when America is in Danger, only Obama has, that is why he is the Commander in Chief of Armed forces. I am a supporter of APC, but if you need more help playing opposition, we will meet on Bellanaija.

I am telling you. GEJ condemned and was crucified. They can see now that its not as easy as it sounds. I like the fact that they are going to relocate the operational headquarters to Borno sha, that is a very good start I must say.

All the best PMB, I pray for you and Nigeria daily

Hahaha.I knew it. Not a fan of GEJ though I applaud his step to concede defeat but once people want power they promise the galaxy.
It might be too soon to expect a miracle but action speaks. Talk is cheap and these were the exact words of Uncle J.

When can we get a similar official statement condemning the atrocities being commited by Fulani Herdsmen in North Central states like Plateau. Since April alone, they have slaughtered more than 400 villagers, most of them Christians from minority groups (over stolen cattle or land disputes). Please why does nobody in Nigeria or outside the country seem to care about this genocide in the making? Must everything have a sexy hashtag before it can be taken seriously? It makes me weep with frustration.

It was reported that the Fulani herdsmen threatened to deal with these people if Buhari got into power. If his government keeps silent on this issue, Buhari will be sending the wrong message to these murderous herdsmen, I know this problem did not start today but we were promised CHANGE. Buhari as a muslim president has more political capital and goodwill than GEJ has had in the past two years. Enough trekking in the name of Buhari. Can we please get PEACE in the name of Buhari also?

    Please!

    • Peyton

      May 31, 2015 at 1:19 pm

The attack on the Minorities by the Fulani herdsmen. Has been ignored. Whilst mentioning boko haram it was left out. Probably when all the minorities are dead will we wake up and smell the coffee we keep brewing. We keep crying for the return of the Chibok girls whilst ignoring people who are being killed daily by the Ful an is. It is sad really sad.

    • Egbami

      May 31, 2015 at 1:31 pm

Thank you, very reasonable comment. We are focused on the Boko goats but we have another problem brewing in our background, That is why our state and local government are ineffective, when they remain passive when there is a disaster in their vicinity, Buhari must address this and take it as seriously as Boko Haram. Even if we destroy Boko Haram, without addressing the fundamental issues causing them, we will have another Boko Haram in a few years with a new name.

Its only the first day oh he has to meet with people make una relax.
By the way there is no money in the treasury and I’m sure those soldiers need new weaponry.

    • nnenne

      May 31, 2015 at 1:44 pm

@Lol. No money in the treasury?
He is going to buy weapons?
I laugh. Are these excuses why we wouldn’t have free school lunches, balanced, not cabin biscuits. Salaries for the unemployed?

Nigerians are not dumb. The campaigns are over and the time for action is here. We are waiting patiently.

    • whatwillbewillbe

      June 1, 2015 at 7:51 pm

Nna eh, biko Lol can you tell me what happened to all the weapon GEJ equipped the Military with towards the end of his tenure? You know the weapons that have been aiding the Military to liberate some communities and rescue women and children? The weapons that you people accused GEJ of buying just so he could win elections? Biko did GEJ take them with him to Otueke? Abeg tell us oh

Nigerians are among the most unsupportive, unpatriotic citizens to ever exist on this earth. Very wicked and quick to judge, no sympathy or emphatic just to tell others ‘ I told you’. Shame on you all condemning President Buhari!

No dear. Let’s just say Nigerians are tired of the same cycle politicians roll by. Promising magic during campaign and forming easy-does-it in power.
All eyes are on him. We wish him the best oo but that Change must take place.

Lwkmd, i had to get in here…. these are not the kind of statement I expected. You should have had an immediate plan. With all the noise you all made. You said you needed 2weeks to end BH. It’s way past that sir

  21. Lati

    May 31, 2015 at 4:55 pm

Nigeria is in trouble if, judging from most of these comments, this is the way we reason. So it is now wrong to condemn an evil act verbally. Have you ever found out what public relations is all about? Even if he’s going to act first, he’s mandated by virtue of his position to condemn it.
For those of you waiting for this administration to fail, one thing I can assure you of is that no matter how bad it gets, it cannot be as bad as the out-gone administration.
P.S: In case you only get your info from social media, let me inform you that during the inaugural speech he stated that the base of the military troops fighting BH will be moved from Abuja to Maiduguri.
And in case you also don’t know, most of the troops that have been dealing with BH so far are from Chad. Niger and Cameron. I got firsthand info from a soldier sometime ago, who said Nigeria has all it takes to fight BH, including weapons (he even said we have drones) but weren’t doing anything because the politics of government was preventing them. So that’s what you prefer?
Anyway, I’m not surprised because no matter what Buhari does, even if he provides 24/7 power supply, some people will still criticize him for it.

  22. tunmi

    May 31, 2015 at 6:11 pm

It’s been 1 day. He did not have access to a lot of information and whatever military plans he may have devised will need to be modified now that he has that information

    May 31, 2015 at 7:49 pm

I can’t even criticise Buhari, not now and I hope not ever. But the truth is we Nigerians enjoy lies and we are bought by cheap lies. Buhari won elections because he had good online Pr and was able to cajole the gullible Nigerians + his herdsmen. (let us not forget “Boko Haram” ploy. The same Pr smart enough to write up a statement addressing the blast. What do you expect from a 72 year old man?(If that is his real age sef, prolly doesn’t have his birth certificae). What ideas? What innovation? Uhn next four years would not be any different in your life if you are sat waiting for change from a goverment, best get out and change what you want changed. Is yout name Aisha? Or Yusuf? Err if not better take my advice. If you think hausas are not tribalistic then yoyo. Osibanjo is just a side kick who got lucky, I doubt he would play any significant role in the next four years. Goodluck Nigerians, now can we stop crying over spilt milk?
