President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered that nine of the VIP transport aircrafts that are part of the presidential fleet should be sold.

According to ThisDay, the measure has been taken as part of the federal government’s cost-cutting measures.

The report further states:

The presidential fleet, which is registered as Nigerian Air Force aircraft, is one of the largest in Africa and the third largest in Nigeria after Arik Air and Aerocontractors.

According to an aviation source, who is aware of the directive to sell the aircraft, the presidency has a number of serviceable and unserviceable aircrafts that need to be disposed of in order to reduce the amount spent by the federal government for aircraft maintenance annually.

“Nine, which still have market value, are to be sold immediately to reduce maintenance costs,” he said.
For years, the federal government has spent over N12 billion annually for the maintenance of the presidential fleet.

Although information on the exact size of the fleet is treated as classified information, the fleet, according to aviation sources, is believed to comprise about 16 aircraft, chief of which is the Boeing 738 BBJ, NAF 001 or Eagle One, used by the president for his travels.

Yaay let’s clap, he’s selling scrap metal! What cost will they cost, how much? What’s the cost of maintaining the remaining 7? What happens to the remaining 7 that should be used to start a Nigerian airline as promised by the Changers? Abeg carry your useless propaganda and go and sit down! Sell 6 more, leave one for emergencies and we’d know you’re serious. It’d also make news the day my father sells his scrap 504 and mercedes 200 that have been parked for over 10 years.

It is a good start. Even if they’re throwing them out maintenance costs will go down.
Meanwhile, 16 !!!!! In the same Nigeria where 12 year olds are robbing people in Ibadan Aso Rock had 16 planes.

Where are the GEJites. what will a government be doing with 16fleets of aircraft and spending N12billion for maintenance annually? These people are evil and thank God that man lost.

In a country where 75% of its citizen lives in abject poverty, below 1$ a day. God will definitely judge the evil leaders we have.

Good job PMB. more of this please. so many things to be fix in this country. kindly let the SPEED TRAIN be your top most priority so some of us can live outside this unnecessarily expensive housing in Abuja.

    • Fols

      June 19, 2015 at 12:42 pm

Maybe not all, but he did buy a good number to add to the fleet without disposing of any.

@Prince, the GEJits are busy elsewhere in fruitful and useful ventures.

Critics won’t see this, Buhari is just the man Nigeria needs in a time like this. #changeishere#

@chenney, people never doubted Buhari stance on discipline, the problem has always been his party, age, his past as regards peace, etc.

I never doubted GMB on doing things like this. Good job i had already commented but beyond that there are a lot that bask in fallow. Our economy,is Nigeria still number one investment destination?
Ancient knowledge of discipline may help but that is not absolutely what we need?
Trust me Tinubu and other Buhari sponsors would not trade these airbuses off, they will rather share it among themselves. So this character is unique to Buhari and not APC.
Buhari is a disciplinarian but is he intelligent to lead in the 21st century to be Economically vibrant whilst saving the planet? TIME WILL TELL.

@ Chenney… please don’t go too fast. The exam just started. It does not make sense to publish the result yet.

All if you cursing GEJ, as usual, did he buy the planes?
Please take time to read and appreciate things he did. Refineries were opened and PMB gets the credit.

      This is a good act.
I request one thing from PMB. If he is the change we are looking for, can he please establish a form of NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION scheme?

That is the kind of institution that will help this country excel. First and foremost, let’s find out who’s a Nigerian. Who was born/ died when accurately.
Who lives where, does what, owns what?
How many resides where, uses what infrastructure, amenities, who earns what and pays how much tax? Who needs what social services?
That way we can always plan ahead with a good vision not blindly. We Can Fight Corruption with It too.

@mewe. Why the pain and angry outburst……all you need is Jesus because individual like you never so progress in others, quick to put others effort down…..low progress is better than no progress…. The market value might be minimal but it can create space and letting go of stuffs that has no economical value is better and good for health and safety purpose by letting go off dusty / rusty plane ……making the Tarmac look for healthy….

Please my advise to you …… Be more cheerful towards good news.you might not like it but let your judgement be more creative.
I can’t stay around people like you with negative energy because we will fight everyday, mewe souls like you can give people depression.
    Seek help ASAP!

You will wait for 100 years and inside grave you will still be waiting. That will not happen in our generation or lifetime, maybe in the next 300 years but not now. Why don’t you ctiticize him for things that can be done like employment, electricity, education, health and so on, stop immersing yourself in stupidity.

Abeg leave the HATERS………even Jesus had enemies!
I only pray that when the real goodies begin to roll in for everyone to see and feel, your case will not be like the story of the lepers at the gate of Syria. The doubter did not believe change could happen in a short time.
He was too sure that even if God opened the windows of heaven and pour out food, Syria will still not live in plenty…so it happened and instead of him partking, he was used as stepping stone for others that believed!
I see hope, sooner than expected!
    Long live PMB!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!

And while you’re at cost cutting spree Mr President, kindly divide the national assembly’s total take home into 10, including all ridiculous allowances. That also goes for all serving Ministers and other top government officials, including Your Excellency Sir. If they can’t take a whole 10% as their total package, then we’ll know that they’re not ready to work and we can quickly find a replacement. The people who lost to them are on standby.I’m sure we’ll be able to save at least N200billion from just that, or don’t you think it is a smart thing to do Mr President?

Fake piece of news. It’s reported that he never sold them. But it will be interesting to understand how many aircrafts are functional and sufficient.
