Exactly – what is the difference? Both products pathologise dark skin.

SO what is the difference between lightening cream and bleaching cream if the main reason is not to make you white abi fair or whatever name you may choose to call it? smh

But come to think of it do people still bleaching/use lightening cream in this time and age despite the growing cases of cancer and all that?

Skin lightening creams are supposed to target hyperpigmentation aka dark spots caused by acne and other skin discolorations. You are supposed to apply the lightening cream directly to the discoloration, and not all over your face. They are not intended to be bleaching creams that transform your complexion.

God doesn’t make mistakes my @ss. Are you going to tell me that those people that have children with down syndrome, autism and other birth defects didn’t give birth to mistakes? IDK why you people have the impression that whenever someone is using lightening creams, they hate their skin tone and they want to be white by force. There are so many black women out there that suffer from hyper pigmentation. I love my skin tone, but I would love it more if the color of my face and neck matched my chest and the rest of my body. I’m am not ashamed to say that i use bleaching creams for that issue, i’m not going to keep hiding under my clothes for you people that assume that everyone who uses bleaching creams wants to be white.

Emma, you poor thing. You believe God makes mistakes? Do you not realise birth defects are man made? That the body’s exposure to atmospheric conditions can cause these things you’ve mentioned. It is only the grace of God that they are not that common place. Have you ever asked why they are prevalent in certain parts of the world?.
You sound very angry and I don’t believe its the colour of your posterior that’s the cause. It goes much deeper than the skin.

oh Please Emma shut up your mouth! NO human being that has not altered their body in any shape or form has one uniform skin tone. Please say you want to bleach and be lighter, not stupid, daft explanation you’re giving. I have a darker face and neck than the rest of my body, some people have darker legs etc than the rest of their body. Be there saying nonsense. How far have you corrected this “mistake”, mistchewww. Anyway make una bleach wella, unto wetin concern me, just don’t make daft justification. If your “god” makes mistakes, my own God doesn’t and besides hope you’re an atheist because it would be stupidity in its purest form, if you believe and reverence a “god” that makes mistakes, who knows this “god” might someday make a mistake with your life and destiny. So it is better you don’t believe in any god. Get self esteem by looking inwards darling and stop using leaching cream to get it

Thanks a lot for this comment.I don’t see anything wrong with occassional use of lightening creams to even out skin tone or to improve hyperpigmentation caused by the sun or melasma or even acne scars.
Using lightening creams for such reasons does not mean that you hate yourself or have low self esteem.

      August 28, 2015 at 5:01 pm

You’re not well educated but have a sharp tongue of opinion. Many substances can lighten the skin besides steroids. Vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acid and many plant based acids can brighten or lighten the skin. It’s a new selling point to a market of people who don’t want the side effects from steroid based creams.

And yes people do use those types of creams to get rid of acne and age spots. No need to paint everyone with the same brush….learn to get facts before pouncing on every issue.

    • lauren

      August 28, 2015 at 8:14 pm

Dear FYI, just because something is natural does not make it ok to use. Dabota was a dark skinned girl who consumed products (lmao if you actually think they were healthy) that have drastically altered her appearance. This product she’s selling is about that and nothing more. I personally cannot take anyone who bleaches…..sorry lightens their skin seriously. No doubt it’s their skin and thus their perogative to destroy it. I have a right to recoil at their complete lack of self worth.

      August 29, 2015 at 5:51 am

Lauren, who said anything about Dabota? I’m just responding with basic facts that not every skin lightening cream is steroid based….and there are people out there who are potential customers that are not seeking to bleach their skin. Again, don’t paint everyone with the same brush. No one said anything about supporting bleaching. I could care less about them. To each his own.

    Smart move.
All this lightening/toning/bleaching…its actually skin thinning and the consequences are grievous.
Look at 10 years from now and imaging how “white/lightened” you will be and advise yasef…that na if you never varnish.
Seriously, no one is praying for an accident that will require “stitches” but life happens. We have seen cases of stitches/wound refusing to heal because of thinned skin.
Be wise. You are beautiful the way you are.
While you are bleaching..sorry, lightening, remember it the genes can’t be affected so when your hubby asks for paternity test nor vex oooo

A word is enough for the wise, im talking fom experience I bleached due to peer presure one kain yeye friend I had then but God quickly used family members to yab me tire and I stopped before changing to willie willie, skin recovered I am thankful and love my brown choclate skin

She probably should have named it ‘hyperpigmentation’ or ‘spot/acne fading’ cream’, as soon as I see ‘lightening’ I think ‘bleaching’.

N.B. if you have hyperpigmentation, please go and see a doctor, who can prescribe you the right product with proper instructions.

Everybody has a story. She was hustling so??? So you will feel better if she dies hustling, yet you want something good to happen to you. Don’t buy her product simple. I hate when people talk about another person’s past. It’s annoying. Like you don’t want the person to move forward. Are you God? Do you know the person’s destiny? Like you never had a past. Sanctimonious saducees. #Gossipseverywhere

Dear FYI, who said anything about Dabota? The post you commented under!! Or did you not read the name?
This product is about going from a dark skinned to a light skinned person. Any other insinuations are a fallacy. No one is buying this to dab on spots because that’s not what the producer stands for. At least she should be honest about that. Steroids or not, this is harmful and the facts must not be compromised.
And if you don’t support something then you really shouldn’t find common ground with that very thing.

…this is a very serious case why young women and some young men nowadays should desist and abstain from “bleaching their skin by using lightening cream”: because after a while, the toxic chemicals in the “lightenning” will sip into your brain, and then you will begin to “tink” it is not bleaching cream. Because the white man who convinced you to import it, im to don use am before, because he used to be chinese and now you “tink” he is white!!! Beware, boys and girls. Beware!!!

I use elizabeth arden’s skin illuminating line…..it helps with the acne spots……and I’m still dark chocolate…….not everybody wants to be white……dark girls have acne marks too…..dark girls need stuff to fade acne marks too

    • vanni

      September 16, 2015 at 7:08 pm

Abi o.When people hear illuminating, clarifying, toning, they just assume you want to change your skin tone.
“Don’t use anything for your spots.it will bleach you!!”
Not everyone wants to be pale abeg.
