Black Reverendz - Ayangba Girls - BellaNaija - August - 2015

Throwing it back to the unofficial Nigerian national anthem of year 2000!

The year is 2000. Hip-Hop style of music is starting to gain attention in the Nigerian music scene. It was this year that the duo; Black Reverendz released “Ayangba Girls” which later became a smash hit!

Signed to Sol Records, The Black Reverendz – formed in the early 90s and comprises of Shobb 2 and Wesley – came into the spotlight with this track over a decade ago.

They sing about the activities of  Ayangba Girls and how dangerous they are. “Ayangba Girls” became so popular that 9 out of 10 Nigerian parties at the time played this tune and won ‘Song of the Year Award‘ at the FAME Music Award (FMA) in 2001.

Where are the Black Reverendz now? They released a new track “Won Ti Gboro” featuring Sound Sultan this year. Think they can make a comeback?

Refresh!
