The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is tackling the challenge of inadequate personnel in policing the country by reducing the number of men and officers deployed to each of the state governors from 150 to 62.

According to Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, the police force needs to quickly beef up its 305,000 personnel, a number he said was insufficient to police the country, especially in the face of current security challenges.

Also affected by the new policy are private individuals who go about with police escorts as such privilege has been withdrawn.

According to the IGP, the decision is propelled by the fact that the available number of police personnel in the country is grossly insufficient to secure more than 160 million Nigerians. He explained that the shortfall necessitated the recently announced plan by the Federal Government to recruit 10,000 policemen.

Charles, better your own. One asked me to buy him yalo (garden egg) i told him the last change on me was #2o (twenty naira) he told me no problem i should just buy for that ammount. I beg you Nigerians i like to know what their problem is, what is the salary scale like for police, or is it that they are under a curse. Iv had many disgraceful encounters with them. Buhari please check i hope the least of them is not paid 10,000 instead of 19,800 minimum wage.

You be olodo! Real nimu. Use your brain before commenting.

During our time we had to have police at the governors official residence, his private residence and office. This is approximately 24-30 men. Then you have to the bodyguards attached to guvnor, his wife and children. If 4 children, then that is 6 police per 6 people = 36. That is 60-66. Plus those in convoy: 5 per car times 10 cars = 50 men. Plus First Lady convoy = 50 men. Total was at least 160 men.

Now that they have cut it to 62 it is better. Asking for 5 shows you have absolutely no sense!

Africa needs redemption. Tell me how people would not kill to stay in power. 3 to 5 policemen should be sufficient for any good governor.

So uncle Fash had 150 policemen attached to him during that lekki robbery incidence. But used that his mouth to complain that all the policemen in Lagos state went to say hi to uncle Jo. Hence, no policeman at the scene. See them, small small all evil shall come to light. 150?? Please oga Arase, what about our oil and telecoms owners? Their wives and children plus great grand children sef? Please withdraw all their escorts o. Let them get private body guards.

Strictly speaking 62 police men is still too much for a Governor. This is excluding other security personnel attached to him. What percentage is now left for the average Nigerian? we do not even av 62 police men manning the whole length of 3rd Mainland Bridge or Apongbon bridge where helpless nigerians are been robbed and killed daily. It is a pity i pray this Country gets it right one day.

Just glad private citizens with police protection have been denied them. This is the only country that taxpayers money is blatantly being used to protect people who in most cases made their money embezzling public funds. It is an outrage. They can afford private security guards-they should use them and directly create more jobs for public they have stolen from. So all those people in Ikoyi and VI with RSS parked in front their homes, we had better not see them there anymore. We are all equal.
Btw, all the so called “honorable” this and that. They too should give up the police security. The only people that deserve just one each are high court judges. Senate and house president, head Of sensitive positions like SSS, NI, (the military head already have military police) Gov and dep gov and one each for national head of political parties and the police igp. police protection for sensitive court witnesses in of course neccessary. O ti ton! The chiefs, obis and Oba’s do not need police protection. They can hire opc or massob for all i care.

Well, well, well any wonder there are no policemen to catch armed robbers? Even ordinary commissioner gats mopol carrying madam’s bag to the market! Unfortunately, the policemen carrying out these useless domestic errands actually prefer it to normal police work. Becos of the extra dosh.! Just drove past Tony Blairs house, only 3 policemen. What even drew my attention was the fact that they were all in black carrying arms. Otherwise, l wouldn’t Hv known. For Nigeria to balance, serious orientation is required. Stealing alone is not the only problem with us.

IGP Arase great job! Please let us know how many for deputy govnor, commissioners, ministers and heads/boards of parastatals. Dem say PMB will make ~7000 appointments. Does that mean that all those 7000 appointees will get police? If so, how many police each?

Also, how many does FFK and Obanikoro have now? How many for ex-ministers and ex-commissioners?

Bruno,Manny, Mystique, Buhari’s sidechick, do you blame pastguvnors side chick. You cant bame her, rather blame the system we find ourselves in. Imagine she is even defending the madness. Some one just drove past Tony Blairs house and behold only 3 police men in front. In Nigeria it will be 20 in front alone not to mention back, rightside, left side. The other day my neighbour was about to be attacked by armed robbers he called the nearest police station(Their slogan say they are our friends) and told them his problem the answer was we will come soon no enough men on ground now. They came by 6am, 4hrs after . Thanks to God and the neighbours. Untill When some one do what Jerry Rawlins did to those thieves in Ghana to the thieves (so called politicians) in Nigeria…… Let me keep quiet. Awon orile ede toku tii rin jinna awa wa ni mile 12.(Other nations have moved forward but we are lacking behind) . Please 30 policee m’en are e.nough for one governor..
