Meena’s Spring/Summer 2016 Architectonic Collection
Drawing inspiration from things past (Nsibidi) and present (modern construction), Meena in their most characteristic form presents another mind-blowingly structured collection that pays tribute to the age old Nsibidi script filled with ideographic and logographic symbols indigenous and exclusive to the Ibos. For this collection, the story told is one of nationalism, patriotism and steadfastness as seen in the brand’s use of ropes and crocheting which according to the designer is symbolic of “a bound effect of unity and peace amidst the challenges and insurgencies (in the Northern part of Nigeria) we are faced with as a nation”.
As of today, Meena has clearly set its self miles ahead of most Nigerian designers with this masterfully tailored complex collection that can only be compared to Dior Haute Couture’s past collections when Raf Simons was clearly at his best.
