Shutting down of schools seem to be the trend these days, and this does not speak well of the Nation.

A couple of days ago it was University of Lagos closing down because students were protesting against fuel scarcity and its accompanying high cost of living in the school. The University of Port Harcourt also shut down over student’s protest against school fees hike.

Nigeria’s premier university, University of Ibadan has followed suit; shutting down over student’s protest against the rustication of a 500L student of the Department of Petroleum Engineeering, Tunji Epketi Micheal.

The notice was served on Tuesday that students were to vacate their hostels before 4 PM on Tuesday as the University will “proceed on break until further notice.” The notice also said that students from nearby universities; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Federal COllege of Technology, Ibadan among others joined in the protests wearing masks to “disturb the much cherished peace and tranquility on campus… (and) threaten the lives and property of the entire University community.”
