Multiple Earth Tremors Rock Jaba Community as Kaduna State Govt. Calls for Calm
Several earth tremors recorded in three locations in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State had left residents in a state of panic.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that tremors that occurred on Sunday and early hours of Monday at Kwoi, Nok and Samban Dagi also left scores of structures with mild cracks.
Ishaya DanAzumi, a Geologist from the State’s Ministry of Environment, while explaining to newsmen at one of the sites described the incident, “as deep seated fault in the earth crust trying to regenerate itself.”
Dan-Azumi said that “contrary to wide spread speculation that the incident was an earthquake, there was no evidence supporting that claim, but it was just earth tremor.”
In a remark, Ben Kure, the Interim Chairman of the LG, urged the people not to panic as earlier suggested by experts that had since moved into action.
Stephen Musa who resides in Kwoi said the loud sound coupled with the shake devastated his entire community.
“We had no option other than call on the Almighty God for protection,” he said.
NAN reports that there was, however, no loss of life in all the locations.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government had appealed for calm and sympathise with the residents of kwoi, Nok and Samban Dagi in Jaba Local Government Area, following report of earth tremor.
The government said in a statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, that it has made a formal report to the appropriate authorities to investigate the development.
The statement noted that Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has notified the geological and emergency agencies of the incident.
“He has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilise to the area and comfort the citizens.
The Kaduna State Government is receiving updates from the area and relevant government agencies have been directed to take steps to comfort the residents and to assuage their unease as they come to terms with an unusual event.
The Kaduna State Government wishes to appeal for calm, and urges everyone not to spread unverified information, or create panic,” the statement said.

Yes oh Odi. I remeber one community in Elele tha heard this loud noise like 2 yrs ago. When people looked out of their homes, they were surrounded by monstrous sinkholes. Keep searching for oil and welcome to the world of oil communities.

Na wa oh! On top all the problems Nigeria has, na to join earthquake or tremor? That will be a disaster mehn! Instead of NEMA going to “comfort” the people (I don’t even know what that means), they should be teaching them precautionary measures should it happen again, like going under a table to protect the head from falling objects. We never think and plan ahead till disaster strikes (God forbid sha).

SEMA not NEMA

NEMA- National Emergency Management Agency
SEMA – State Emergency Management Agency.
If there’s one thing Nigerians know how to do well it is to save their own lives if they can. We are just not used to earthquakes or earth tremors. In fact, I always believed we couldn’t have earthquakes in this part of the world. I spent one summertime in DC 5 years ago and was shocked to have experienced an earthquake. I mean all of DC metro couldn’t stop talking about it for a month…meanwhile the ppl in California were like really….it’s not that serious. I grew up in the southern region of US and whenever we had a rare occasion of snow fall the whole town goes wild as if the world will collapse. So u see, if you are not used to experiencing such unnatural natural disasters happen in your region, when it does strike, it can be quite scary and shocking.

Must it be oil? Why y’all so narrow minded? El-Rufai has been actively seeking solid mineral deposits in Kaduna state. Possibly mining activity disturbed the seismic balance. But no, you are here rotting with ‘oyel’ mentality. The idea of a state seeking self sufficiency is causing you grief. SMH.
Oh please

Much like the idea of the IPOB seeking self determination and emancipation from this cessmess of a country is causing some people in Nigeria particularly on this blog sleepless nights. I hope you like how that feels.

From the geological point of view, Nigeria is relatively stable and we do not expect devastating earthquakes. However there are dormant zones especially those regions bordering Plateau state that have the potential to release stress from deep seated fractures. Recent groundwater investigations in parts of Kaduna have unraveled fairly deep seated fractures at depths of about 150-250m. It is therefore not surprising that dormant earthquake prone zones could spring up once in a while. This also points to the fact that this present world is coming to an end as professied in the holy scriptures that earth quakes will occur in areas not usually prone to tremors. Think on these things

The most shocking moment of the year is the Earth Tremor. This is very shocking because these things are really showing to us those things written in the bible are never lies nor composed so, it call us into adjustment and transformation and not change. All we need to do is to believe in the Word of God and do what he commands.
