BBOG & AFSEIThe Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) Advocacy Group has distanced itself from a fundraising event organised by President Muhammadu Buhari‘s daughter, Hadiza Buhari-Bello.

At the event tagged “Official Inauguration and Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Chibok Girls Endowment Project” organised by the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) and Hadiza’s Africa Support and Empowerment Initiative (AFRISEI), the PCN donated N3.5 million to AFSEI for support of the Chibok girls.

The BBOG group, in a statement signed by Oby Ezekwesili and Aisha Yesufu, demanded a retraction of the name “BringBackOurGirls used on the event’s backdrop, adding that they are considering a response to what they described as an “attempt to smear our movement”.

Following repeated enquiries from the media, we stumbled upon information of an event tagged “Official Inauguration and Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Chibok Girls Endowment Project” organised by the “Peace Corps of Nigeria” and “Africa Support and Empowerment Initiative” with Hadiza Buhari-Bello.

We are shocked, perplexed and completely dumbfounded to see the bold inscription of our hard-earned name, #BringBackOurGirls, on the event’s backdrop. We state categorically that we are not party to the said event and have absolutely no information of its origin. We urge the general public to disregard attempts at linking our movement to this highly suspicious event.

After 902 days of painstaking advocacy, it is disheartening and unfortunate to suddenly see attempts, by external actors, to use it for selfish purposes. We have carefully built our reputation as a well-organized and disciplined global movement that is completely self-funded.

The deliberate decision, to remain funded by sacrificial contributions of members for our very negligible needs, is the reason we are solely a Citizens’ Movement, and not an NGO. It will be highly injurious to allow it be dragged in the mud at this point. We therefore demand an immediate retraction and unreserved apology from the organizers.

Together with our lawyers, Femi Falana & Co., we are considering a response to this attempt to smear our movement. We call on the general public and law enforcement agencies to be on the look-out for unscrupulous persons who may already be/are planning similar nefarious acts to deceive the local and international community.

Didnt we all use this BringBackOurGirls hashtag before BBOG Advocacy Group became an organised group? From the banner, the event was organised by ”Member and The Entire Stakeholders of CHIBOK GIRLS ENDOWNMENT FUND PROJECT”. So nobody can hold a program and dare mention ”Bring Back Our Girls” again or what is Anty Oby about?!

Nope!….. the name was deliberately created by a group of concerned citizens, and then through a savvy and calculated social media engagements, the hashtag trended, it was at that point that “we all used it”……..so yes, it can’t be used to raise money by another entity without the originator’s consent…

Na dem start the movement abi you think the Internet woke up one day and decided collectively to use #BringBackOurGirls? Lol. They’ve been working hard on this issue for a long time so I don’t blame them for calling these phony “advocates” out. Soon, we’ll hear stories about the funds they raised at this event. When that happens, the hashtage wI’ll change to #BringBackOurGirlsMoney.

Buharis family should go and look for other things to do with their lives as no Nigerian voted for any of them. is he the only president that ever had children. This one is also looking for a cheap means to be popular like Zahra shamelessly. It is not enough that they follow their mother up and down for official functions around the world. I’m sure their mother is the brain behind this their slightest opportunity for gbaza – gbaza. They are nothing but Bunch of opportunists, we are already tired of their father let alone them. . Anyways I trust Ngozi to deal with her and the group regardless.
