The highest ranking public officer in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu in a statement on Wednesday, said that the party will work diligently with Donald Trump, the President-elect of the U.S

In the statement, signed by his Special Adviser (Media), Uche Anichikwu, Ekweremadu congratulated Trump on his victory.

He added that emerging democracies, including Nigeria, must emulate the democratic and transparent nature of the U.S election, noting that the will of the people and respect for democratic principles must be allowed at all times and also against the backdrop that the election was not inconclusive.

“Mr. Trump has rightly described the election as historic. But it is not only historic for the U.S, but also for the world. It is an important reminder to the entire world of the true meaning and essence of democracy as government of the people.

I urge him to work for democracy, global peace and prosperity because the peace and prosperity of America is intrinsic in that of the entire world.

In particular, I urge better bilateral deals for Nigeria by the incoming Donald Trump presidency. I have no doubt that the people of Nigeria and indeed the Peoples Democratic Party are willing and ready to work with the incoming U.S government for the good of both nations.

We have many lessons to learn from the American presidential election. It was highly democratic, transparent, peaceful, and free of intimidation, willful manipulations, contrived security scares; and it was absolutely conclusive, even though the ruling party was losing, and eventually lost,” he said.

Ekweremadu commended the candidate of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton, for calling to concede the presidency to her rival and congratulating him on his hard-worn victory.

Mr Ekweremadu, Mr Trump does not know neither u nor ur pdp party. What da hell do u mean that pdp is ready to work with Trump? Is pdp different from Nigeria huuuuh. If u must say sth, just simply say that Nigeria is ready to work with him. Dont tell d whole world that d country is divided coz of political parties. All other nations have and still congratulating him on behalf of their respective countries and there u are saying d rubbish that ur party “PDP” is ready to work with mr Trump. I was thinking u have an iota of sense in u but at this juncture, I am disappointed.

That is the problem I have with the politicians of our country. An American will always stand up and support the cause of Americans at large be it Republican or Democrat. They are not segregated by political parties. NO! It doesn’t get into their heads. They fight and defend AMERICA. In Nigeria reverse is the case. It’s just freakingly annoying.

My reading of the statement is that the international community, not just Trump, but particularly America now, under Trump, who hopefully can get to be clear-eyed about germane issues, will be made to appreciate the intolerable, divisive and nepotism-riddled rule of this present government. Perhaps with international attention, the cries of the people facing suffocating, overbearing, corrupt and rapacious scotch-earth policies can breath some air of hope.

Reactions follow actions and only blind ethnocentric dullards will fail to realise that this government has created situations on ground that make the times anomalous, requiring equally abnormal reactions. We are all in it together. PDP biko carry go.
