donald-trump-and-ben-carsonPresident-elect Donald Trump on Monday announced his intent to nominate Dr. Ben Carson to serve as Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Dr. Carson is a distinguished national leader who overcame his troubled youth in the inner city of Detroit to become a renowned neurosurgeon who served as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland.

“I am thrilled to nominate Dr. Ben Carson as our next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities. We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities. Ben shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that this is a Presidency representing all Americans. He is a tough competitor and never gives up.

I am honored to accept the opportunity to serve our country in the Trump administration,” said Dr. Carson. “I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly by strengthening communities that are most in need. We have much work to do in enhancing every aspect of our nation and ensuring that our nation’s housing needs are met,” Trump said.

Ben Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1951. While his mother lacked access to a quality education, she encouraged her sons in their scholastic pursuits and instilled the value of hard work. Carson graduated with honors from Southwestern High School, where he also became a senior commander in the school’s ROTC program. He earned a full scholarship to Yale University and graduated in 1973 with a B.A. degree in psychology.

Carson then enrolled in the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan, choosing to become a neurosurgeon. Dr. Carson became the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33 and earned fame for his groundbreaking work separating conjoined twins.

Twenty years ago, Carson and his wife Candy started the Carson Scholars Fund, which is now active in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It has provided more than 7,300 scholarships since 1994 to students from all backgrounds that achieve at the highest academic levels and community service. It also encompasses the Reading Room program and reading rooms have been placed throughout the country to stimulate a love for reading, especially in those who are underserved.

In 2000, the Library of Congress selected Dr. Carson as one of its “Living Legends.” The following year, CNN and Time magazine named Dr. Carson as one of the nation’s 20 foremost physicians and scientists. In 2006, he received the Spingarn Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the NAACP. In February 2008, President George W. Bush awarded Dr. Carson the Ford’s Theatre Lincoln Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Bruno, You better calm you ass down before you die on Trump’s case. He doesn’t care about your existence.
Trump is just as crooked as Hilary but he knows how to silence his critics and his money/status speaks louder. If his crooked, scamming ways truly come out, everybody will be shocked. You think it’s clean business ways on how he became a billionaire. This guy is ruthless. The Republican won, Hilary has no place anymore. If anything Pence is who they are really prepping up to become president but had to use Trump as the front runner.

Dr. Ben Carson grew up in rough ghetto neighbourhoods, he overcame the odds and was a successful surgeon. I think it’s a strategic and as a black man, he should be able to add value having lived in those neighbourhoods.

Growing up in a rough ghetto neighborhood doesn’t automatically qualify you for HUD job. There’s more to it. HUD comprises a broader picture. Home mortgage/buying a house, real estate, making sure there’s no discrimination based on race or gender but qualification for bank loans, looking for a home in your price range, watching the mortgage market etc So, this is not just job for section or low income housing
Dr Carson, in all due respect is no where qualify for this job. It takes someone who has experience in the business aspect of real estate/developing, housing policies, and who understands the logistics that comes to buying a house and keeping it. Also, someone who is able to set better protocols and standards to become homeowners

IMO, he might as well not have bothered going to school and earning all those advanced neuro-something degrees if his de-main de-main expertise was going to be on HUD and inner cities/ghetto tinz. Ahn-ahn! Ki lo de de?

He might as well have joined the neighborhood committees and worked his way to the top as most council members, etc. start with. Aboran sweat through medical school and advanced fellowships only to come and be expert on HUD. Me sef wey never live insai “hood” have a good grasp of the economics of inner cities just by parking my car on the streets of downtown (my resident state) for three years while attending school there.

To be fair, and I don’t know if my overzealous brother made this one up: He says Carson was offered a health-related stint and Carson refused it saying he did not have enough experience in that area. I was like “come again?” Which kain further experience do you need after being a health professional for more than half of your life! O ga! Well, who am I?

Your overzealous brother was right, Carson was first pick for health, he demurred.

Please be advised, Donald Trump offered him the Secretary of Healthcare and Dr, Ben declined, stating that he didn’t think he was ‘qualified or had enough experience to do the job’. So he offers him the Secretary of Urban housing, please note again…. this doesn’t not mean the ghetto or people of color housing. Urban means city/town dwellings. The whole situation is bizarre at best

I recall reading Ben Carson story.
My sister was so inspired by him to become a Neurosurgeon.
    She wanted it so badly.
    We thank God for life.
I appreciate Ben Carson and I commend his effort throughout his life. Hopefully he will make a difference.
