PDP, SDP, AD, others join forces to form opposition forum

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and several other political parties have agreed to constitute a broad based political opposition, known as United Forum of Democrats.

The group disclosed this in a resolution signed by Prof. Jerry Gana on Thursday in Abuja after its Wednesday’s meeting.

According to the resolution the forum is made up of of the leadership of PDP, People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alliance for Democracy (AD), Accord Party (AP), among other political parties.

It stated that the forum will be an effective, responsible and fearless watchdog. It said that the forum will, by mutual agreement, broaden the base of the opposition in the country.

Gana, who was a former Information Minister had on Wednesday, while submitting the report of PDP Strategy Review and Inter-party Affairs in Abuja said that PDP was already meeting with some leaders of political parties.

He disclosed that the initial contacts had yielded positive responses from seven people-focused and social democratic parties which would meet in Abuja.

“This has nothing to do with the rumoured Mega Party, but a separate and highly principled initiative of the PDP. Our desire is to have all genuine democrats and friends of the people to flow together and provide a fresh and trustworthy leadership to promote and ensure people-friendly process of national development,’’ Gana said

According to the resolution, the forum will henceforth ensure that the electoral and security Umpires in the country act strictly within the dictates and ethics of their profession.

“We have resolved that we shall stand united and steadfastly work together in the interest of the vast majority of our people who are now suffering and traumatized.

The forum also upheld the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference and was resolved to work earnestly for its full implementation.

“We equally resolved that we shall work together henceforth in all upcoming elections as we approach 2019. This is to ensure we enthrone genuine democracy, good governance, respect for the rule of law and put an end to the reign of civilian dictatorship.’’

Very sad indeed how greed and arrogance ruined the PDP. The fall of the PDP is a lesson on how not to manage opportunity and responsibilities. Nigeria will do well with some breath of fresh air. Would be interesting to see what mid 2017 throws up.

Nigerians cannot be deceived again by any alliance. We just want a change that will be felt by all the citizens.

      Is this even necessary?
These old men need to retire. Both PDP and APC are made up of same cycle of greedy men who brought Nigeria to this state.
Nigeria needs a fresh start, new faces with a 21st century mindset, young men/women who are mentally and physically capable of handling a diverse state and reviving her economy.
these men have been tested and their performance is below 30% F9!

Nigeria politics is really funny.Once politicians and their parties are not longer in the circle where the chopping is going on, they begin to come together to form parties with funny names not because they have the interest of the citizens at heart but for their selfish gains.Politicians and parties throw away party principles when they are no longer making waves, decamping to the reigning parties in droves.Nigeria political arena is very annoying,Tomorrow when this new forum becomes a party to reckon with, everybody in APC will run to join and there won’t be strong opposition anymore just like what is happening now.Sometimes i wonder why INEC register so many political parties,i think 5 would have been okay.

…and if they win by chance, all the thieves in APC will run back to the ruling party. Until we all join forces together and put aside differences and deal with these thieving politicians, Nigerians will continue to suffer. For God`s sake, why do most of our youths celebrate all these thieves in our respective neighborhood ?. If we start asking questions and beating up these guys and setting those houses on fire, they will be forced to be accountable. Nigerians are permanently damaged mentally by these guys…service is all about serving not a medium of acquiring stupendous wealth. We need to start at our respective local government level and the time is now.!

They celebrate it because of paid liars like Chude Jideowo and Debola Williams, and also their cronies like Tolu Ogunlesi and Seyi Taylor. All very loud, wouldn’t let anyone hear word with their support of Buhari. All supposedly educated young men (below 35 at the time of elections) they one would assume could at the very least be wise enough to shut up when they saw a dictator was about to come back into power.

It’s not about youth or old age. It’s about wisdom and… lack of wisdom. Unfortunately, the unwise often shout loudest.
