Superstar musician 2Baba has cancelled the #IStandWithNigeria protests scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday February 6th 2017.

2Baba said that the decision was made after discovery that the protests were under threat of hijack by elements not aligned with the interests of the protesters.

2Baba had faced criticisms from members of the academia, his former colleague, Blackface and the presidency (through President Buhari‘s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie) over the planned action.

The Lagos State Police Command had also advised the music star to halt the action, saying thay hoodlums are planning to hijack the protests to perpetuate their criminal activities.

The Force Headquarters, Abuja on Friday released a statement advising the 2Baba led protesters and another pro-government group of protesters who had planned to carry out their action on February 5th and 6th to shelve their plans.

The police had said that the decision was made to prevent the breakdown of law and order during the protests.

Revolutions are rarely the fault of the rebels. In every revolution if the ruling elite had not been so greedy, decadent, corrupt and vile, if they had not suppressed the people for so long, the revolutions would never have been necessary. – There can be no revolution without sacrifice.

      There’s a breaking news now.

Enough is Enough group, which is part of the organizers of the Monday, February 6th protest in Lagos and Abuja, say they will still carry on with their initiative with or without singer, 2face Idibia who pulled out of the protest last night. They just twittered this from their twitter handle. @EiENigeria on twitter

      *********************************Bellanaija post this news oooo……………………

And someone commented in SDK how APC had a meeting with the Commissioner of Police Lagos and later sent money to the bank… he said this cancellation is only a cover up of what actually happened. It’s still a pity. Some people have bought flight tickets to Lagos and Abuja. Some are squatting with others waiting for the protest.

Cancellation of #IStandWithNigeria rally is not true: The National Protest was never about 2Face, we are marching on against bad governance

Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds that the National-Protest-March slated for Monday, February 6, 2017 has been canceled by one Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2Face. This is not true and not the consensus of Nigerians, majority of fellow planners and not a true reflection of the sincere plan to organize this rally in public interest.

We wish to inform Nigerians and the world at large that this protest against bad governance and hunger was never about 2Face or any individual for that matter. Let it be known that Mr. Idibia merely keyed into an ongoing public discourse over this protest to take a lead. It was never his singular idea but the concerns of the suffering masses.

Therefore, we wish to inform concerned Nigerians and the international community that there is a national and public consensus for this protest to hold as scheduled in all venues. There are hundreds of groups and thousands of Nigerians who are leading this initiative and we will not back down.

This is the time to separate real activists from emergency activists. Emergency activists seek mortality with the fear of man, while Revolutionists and real activists seek immortality with the fear of God.

Consequently, in the exact opposite of what our brother, 2Face said; “Dear Nigerians, due to stomach insecurity and bad governance consideration, we hereby announce the continuation of the march as scheduled – on Monday, February 6, 2017.

Wao wao just teading about this very unfortunate cancellation!!! It is a major heartbreak?and a huge setback to the democracy of Nigeria!
The NLC is a history and now Tu Face Idibia’s planned protests halted abruptly??? All the failure targets and goals have been surpassed by these people in power!
Now where is Tunde Bakare and Mbaka? Is it this same Almighty God that these men serve? Story for another day….
I can understand 2 Face cos APC is a dangerous undemocratic party. No iota of empathy exists in those old vampires! Glaring brown toothed old vampires mtcheeew!
In 2019 the many will still use their thumbprints for the tyrant which began with the man Tinubu sold to the previously giant of Africa. Ladies and gentle men welcome to Buharis Nigeria!

This military and authoritarian regime will not hesitate to shoot and kill protesters and blame the organisers of the protest. Shame on every man and woman who kept silent in the face of this tyranny. #Istandwith2baba

Pls we need a good line-up against PMB and APC in 2019. It’s so unfortunate that we can’t even exercise our basic human rights under this Buhari administration. I believe this is a good time for a new party to spring up. We need a new set of leaders. So so sad for this country.

      It’s systematic killing actually.
      1) Look at how people are dying in hospitals because of lack of equipments or component medical personnel’s.
      2) look at how people die senselessly due to bad roads in the country
      3) Look at the way some people turn against their morality to become gangsters kidnapping people for money killing some innocent souls in the process.
      4) Look at the way some people die in poverty
      5) Look at how bright youths are jobless and how some of them die in the name of NYSC
The list is endless my people. So its either you die for a revolution or be complacent and let the system continue to kill you

Judging from this, come 2019, unfortunately there won’t be free and fair elections like there were during the past administration, the people that voted for change will be forced to enjoy its fruits for 8 years along with the rest of us who saw the handwriting on the wall.

No way…. 2019 is when the dogs and baboon will be covered in real blood, sweat, pus etc should PMB try to rig the elections. Already, the SS & SE will not vote for PMB even in their dream. We need the support of SW to get the numbers that will kick PMB out. His failure as a leader is epic….We have given him more than 100% support but his administration is anything but competent. The plan for 2019 has to start now. Nothing good can come out from this administration again. Osinbajo is still there just to give Nigerians a bit of confidence & hope, otherwise I know that he is very tired and will one day resign just like other right thinking Nigerians in this government.

In as much as I was sympathetic to this present govt. (a regrettable thing thus far), I really wanted this protest to hold.

I was in support of GEJ becoming the substantive president when Yar’ Adua passed as that was the ideal thing but didn’t expect much from his tenure given his antecedents and so, didn’t like him being a clear and full term president. Anyway, he got in and I had to face reality and assist his presidency albeit in an inert capacity. When he started f’ing up as full pres., I was solidly behind the subsidy protests as I felt it would topple him. It didn’t but seemed to have shaken him briefly. But business as usual took over after he got comfy again…

This 2face/One Voice plan would have in my opinion, rattled the foundations of this administration if it were well executed. This is why democracy — and I say this cautiously — is a good thing. Sad…

I think the choice of 2face was not entirely bad. However, feelers in many quarters was that it was being covertly sponsored by opposition. I don’t think so but that perception permeated widely and that may have deadened unalloyed support in key place asides the claim that it was going to be hijacked, but by who really? Even if the so-called Wailers were behind it, don’t everyone have a message to this Buhari-led admin. that dem nor dey try?

Leading a protest is a game for men,and not for cassanova play boys who inwardly are cowards.

Tuface should have taken tutorials from the likes of Radical Brother(Old UI graduates should know him),or even Adam’s Oshiomhole.

There was no way people would not have lost lives,as miscreants would have hijacked the protest, and used it as an opportunity to maim, loot, steal, molest and cause general havoc.

And the law enforcement would have responded in kind. Their bloods would have been on your head Tuface.

    Tu face,

You are not worth the effort it takes to call your name.

And as for Nigerians who will cave in because of this whereas you were planning to protest before, just remember you have earned everything you have coming.

Esther said if ‘I perish I Perish’ and she rescued her people from certain doom. Not worth any Nigerians life? Then who’s life is it worth? The American special troopers who will come in to rescue your war torn country after it has been declared an Islamic fiefdom?

This is so sad. History has tried you and found you wanting. I hope you don’t intend to ever be taken seriously after this?

Nigerians are so quick to dump the problems of this nation on the next available head…. You need not be at TBS/Eagle Square or National Stadium to stand behind anyone in a protest march… You can start protest in your small space. What do you think we are protesting against? Is it PMB? Fa fa foul…. It is bad leadership everywhere, it is injustice, it is ill-gotten wealth, it is corruption, it is to change the psyche of the next leaders. I tell you most solemnly that the next leaders will come from the opposition and they will make same mistakes of this present administration. Be wise and prepare for 2019…. No more voting based on SENTIMENTS or choosing a lesser evil. We know that Angels are rare in Naija but we need “”Angels in the making”” as Leaders and not “”Repentant Devils””. I stand with Tuface and I admire his courage & wisdom. The real collective protest is in 2019 when we are gonna kick PMB out. He is no longer a keg of gunpowder but real & present danger. I have made up my mind to have zero-tolerance to bad leadership and insha Allah will put it in practice. That is my protest. What about you?

@david, God forbid that we will need to see more blood shed before we see our way clear. We are a nation gradually forsaken by God. The economy is not our only area of worry. The amount of senseless sexual abuse that has become rampant is indicative of where we stand with God. We are very sick people and only true repentance on a national level, Old Testament style can save us.

    • David

      February 5, 2017 at 10:34 am

@Abi Amen! But with the way things are and in hindsight, these policital hawks and, if I must add, psychopathic heartless monsters are not willing to give us our most basic rights. Not anytime soon (By that I predict in a decade). The air is unbreathable, water is filthy, power fluctuates… It’s gone on for years without any visible improvement.

Until we, the masses, challenge them to their very core they will keep recycling themselves, shutting us out and keeping us down. God forbid we will need to see more blood shed… But one day, people will rise and I fear it will be messy.

@Kay It’s unfair to say its the people. Do we have a hand? Yes! But not compared to the government. Social media wont bring back lives. Just look what happened with the guys protesting for Biafra, people were shot at and killed by the forces that ought to protect them. Nothing has happened to the officials who perpetuatoped the killing. In fact, the effing government supports it!

People can’t just lay down their lives for nothing. I personally won’t for Nigeria because for one I don’t trust anyone starting a protest. They may be fighting for selfish reasons and not the basic rights of Nigerians. I can’t go and die for nothing… No, no, no…

That will be the end of Nigeria and the break-away states. you and I won’t be able to seek for assylum in US (due to Trump) or UK (Brexit) or even other Countries. We need to stop bad leadership once and for all through the electoral process. Get ready for 2019, if you do not have voters card, go and get it once the opportunity comes, If you feel, you are called to be a Leader, make sure you have the mandatory academic qualifications and take up different leadership courses. Shagari was in office from 1979 to 1983. They say his government looted the national treasury. Things were not so good but Nigeria did not go into an economic recession. Then Buhari came as military Head of State and was in office from 1983 to 1985. They say he did not loot. But during his time in office, Nigeria fell into a deep economic recession. Then came Babangida. They say he looted Nigeria from 1985 to 1993. Yet there was no economic recession. After Babangida came Shonekan and Abacha from 1993 to 1998. Abacha was also said to have looted the treasury. In fact, his loot stashed abroad is still being recovered till today. Yet there was still no economic recession. From 1998 to 2015, we have had Abdulsalami, Obasanjo, Yar’Adua and Jonathan. All administrations were accused of looting the treasury. Still there was no recession. Now Buhari is back and we are once again in a recession and you say “LOOTING” of the Jonathan years is the cause? Are we okay???
Do u need a prophet to tell u that this pmb is a proven failure?

I am not saying Gej was perfect, but the fuel subsidy protest was carried out and his government did not attempt to shut down civilians. Buhari is using his military background to govern its people in this 21st century
    Wahala dey ooo my people
This is no time to sit back and relax but to actually fight for our country, imagine the rich are complaining of the current situation in Nigeria, what do we expect the poor who could not afford 3 square meals before to do now?

EVEN IF THE PROTEST WAS HIJACKED BY OPPOSITION, AND SO WHAT, DID APC NOT HIJACK THE 2012 JANUARY FUEL SUBSIDY MATCH AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT, WHAT IS THE ROLE OF OPPOSITION IN DEMOCRACY, DID DEMOCRAT IN THE U.S NOT SUPPORT THE PROTESTERS AGAINST DONALD TRUMP RECENTLY

APC NEED TO LEARN ONE THING, WE NIGERIANS HAVE REALISED NOW THAT THEY DECEIVED US, AND WE ARE WAITING FOR THEM IN 2019…. THEY SHOULD LEARN FROM THIS TUFACE ABORTED PROTEST, THAT THERE IS TOO MUCH ANGER NOW, DURING THE ELECTION THEY BROUGHT AND SHOWED US ALOT OF TECHNOCRAT LIKE PAT UTOMI, SOLUDO, DOYIN SALAMI, ETC . IMMEDIATELY THEY WON THE ELECTION, THEY NEVER BROUGHT ANY OF THOSE PEOPLE ON BOARD

THEY SHOULD CONTINUE, WE ARE WAITING FOR THEM, IF THEY ARE SMART, THEY BETTER JUST SWUP THE TICKET FOR PEOPLE LIKE SANI AHMED / FASHOLA OR RIBADU / DONALD DUKE IF NOT, THEY WONT GET ANY YOUTH VOTE AGAIN

NIGERIANS ACTUALLY VOTED AGAINST JONATHAN, NOT LIKE WE LIKE BUHARI… PRESIDENT BUHARI IS THE MOST COLOURLESS PRESIDENT NIGERIA HAS EVER HAD, NO DIRECTION, NO EDUCATION POLICY, NO INFRASTRUCTURE LAY OUT PLAN, NO ECONOMY POLICY… AS ENTREPRENEUR WE DONT EVEN KNOW WERE TO KEY INTO FOR THE LONG TIME

BECAUSE OF LACK OF POLICY DIRECTION, THOSE WITH RESOURCES ARE JUST WATCHING, NOBODY IS INVESTING, EVERYONE IS JUST TRADING, DOING BUYING AND SELLING, BECAUSE WITHOUT A DIRECTION, U JUST HAVE TO WATCH AND NOT MAKE ANY LONG TERM PLAN, IN SUCH A FRAGILE ECONOMY

BUHARI MINISTERS ARE TIRED OF THE MAN, THEY SAID HE DOESNT TAKE ADVISE, FROM HIS CABINET, ONLY LISTENS TO THE DUARA MAN AND HIS CHIEF OF STAFF

@ Shola….there was another way of voting Jonathan out but not by voting Buhari in. You should have voted any credible Candidate in the smaller political parties. Nigerians always vote only either of the two major parties. WHY?!

WHY can’t the youth come together and form their one formidable party without tribal sentiments and TAKE power from these OLD LOOTERS who have been ruining our future for decades. Just look at the RURAL COUNTRY they will bequeath us!
No steady power supply in 56 years, no modern functional railways or tram for mass transit, no underground drainage network, no efficient waste management and recycling, NO URBAN PLANNING!

So, what Democracy are we talking about?!

TUFACE did you think organising a nationwide protest is beans? How can you raise the hope of young Nigerians and just throw it to the dog’s? Why weren’t you slow to speak and quick to understand? You should have thought this through before speaking up. I saw this coming!!

Countries like Paris and US hold rallies despite their high security alerts, d occupy Naija and bring back our girls rallies held whn book haram was out in full force, so hoodlums are to blame for cancellation? Pls give me a beta cover story. I respect 2face for speaking up but talk is cheap, he was threatened and doesn’t what to end up like nnamdi KANU, so he backed off. Pls, when willwe stop being a spineless generation? When will we be courageous and ready to die for what we believe in? I weep for my country.

Those of you saying you are waiting for them in 2019 should think again. By canceling this protest and not even protesting at all, we have given up our rights. There will be rights to exercise in 2019. Forget Tuface and let’s do this. Yvonne Nelson obviously has more balls than he does https://www.bellanaija.com/2016/11/from-it-girl-to-activist-yvonne-nelson-is-on-a-mission-in-ghana-blanck-magazine/

This is sad. Real sad. How can 2Baba leave us high and dry? Inasmuch as the powers that be have pushed him to the wall, he should have still pulled through. Death is inevitable. It comes even if while we sleep.
This is also a clear sign that buhari isn’t different from how he was in ’84.
I just hope we’d not forget to remind him and all these APC guys bent on shutting us down.
PDP may have had it flaws but they never shut down our pleas to be heard.

Nigeria Nigeria. My anger with tu face is starting what he couldn’t finish. If Nigerians want change sacrifice must be made. Look at blacks in the U.S. They fought tirelessly against slavery and segregation and are still fighting. Let’s come nearer to southafrica. They fought and fought. Police go open fire and still the people would troop out to protest. A lot of their leaders where tortured and killed but the need for their freedom was stronger. Perhaps we havnt reached that point. We say we are fed up but we are still comfortable. But soon we won’t be anymore, maybe then we would be ready to damn the consequence and speak up. Because we are oppressed by govt, by bokoharam, by Fulani herdsmen…..when we are truly tired as a nation nothing will stop us. But my verdict is we are not ready to sacrifice yet.

On the day of the protest. We the true Nigerians will stand up for our rights, for the rights of those unborn and generations coming behind us. This generation will be the one who refuses to cower in fear in the face of blatant evil and tyranny. And we serve a notice to all that have taken that which is the right of every Nigerian , we promise them that we will remember , and you will not go unpunished, justice must be served. All the celebrities and people of affluence that refused to stand with us because of their own fear and selfish interest, we will remember and not forget, when you sell the albums or plan a concert, we will remember. On this day we take record of all who stood with us, and we will remember them when the glory of our great nation rises again.Rise up all ye true Nigerians and let us make Nigeria great again !

    Press Statement

Tuface behaved cowardly, and I am so disappointed.

Whatever reasons he cowered for, Buhari will still punish him for raising awareness and attempting to lead the protest in the first place. He should have thought carefully about every consequences before supporting the rally. Now, he has ridiculed himself. Shame!

But this protest was never about Tuface. It is about demanding better governance from our leaders so #WeMustProtest. #EnoughIsEnough

Tuface you fall my hand. You hyped a great issue that might helped a nation but you cancelled it over their cowardice threat. Be flamboyant man, You just acted like one of them by giving a voice and eventually not being heard like the way they make huge promises but fail them when they are there.
