Andy Murray Clinches Year-End No.1 In Emirates ATP Rankings

Andy Murray of Great Britain celebrates with the ATP Tour Trophy following his victory during the Singles Final against Novak Djokovic of Serbia at the O2 Arena on November 20, 2016 in London, England.

According to the latest release from ATP World Tour, Andy Murray becomes the 17th different player in history (since 1973) to be ranked top spot in the ATP world rankings following his Dubai Tennis Championships win.

The milestone was achieved in dramatic fashion on Sunday when he beat his rival for top spot, Novak Djokovic, 6-3, 6-4 in the title match of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at The O2 in London. It was the first time in history that the year-end No. 1 ranking was on the line for both players in the final ATP World Tour match of the season.

Murray lifted the 45th trophy of his career at the 25th edition of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, beating former World No. 7 Fernando Verdasco who moved up six spots to No. 29.

Also Dubai semi-finalist Robin Haase soared 19 positions to No. 47 and is back in the Top 50 for the first time since 7 July 2014 (when he was No. 49). Damir Dzumhur, who beat No. 3-ranked Stan Wawrinka en route the Dubai quarter-finals, also rose 10 places to a career-high No. 67.

Wrong headline, Andy clinched the year end last season 2016 and not this season 2017. The season just started but congrats to him for winning dubai, he maintains the lead for number one.
