Read Lanre Gentry’s Statement following Release from Prison

Lanre Gentry

Lanre Gentry, the estranged husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has released a statement following his release from Kirikiri Prisons.

Lanre, who was arraigned and subsequently remanded in prison for wife battery and assault, was granted bail on May 9, but only fulfilled his bail conditions yesterday, May 16.

In an Instagram post, Lanre decried the poor state of the prison, adding that government should not leave what it ought to do and start involving themselves in domestic violence. He wrote:

He has communicated . His idea/message is what is essential in communication. No English man will laugh at a German for not being proficient in English language (same apply in France & other countries)
In EU countries where English is not the first language, they really care less about your use of English. In fact , university professors will even their students for bail out in certain situation when they can´t find the right English words or sentences to use.

I have met a couple English people (in London) who can´t speak English properly talk less of writing … When they know that you know they heap the blame on dyslexia.

In Nigeria , we crucify people who are not proficient in English language – yet we forget that English is not our MT but a FL!

My dear half-baked commenters , please leave this poor man alone as long you understand his message. Forget his construction and use of words . Move on please !

@lawee, please stop comparing apples with oranges. Do any of the countries you are talking about have English as their lingua franca? You forget that English is an official language in Nigeria because we have over 250 indigenous languages. Reading, writing and speaking proper English is therefore non-negotiable whether it is your mother tongue or not. Please let us stop celebrating mediocrity and raise our standards. Thank you!

Lawee, English may not be our MT but it is our lingua franca. Is this man a university degree holder? Then he has been taught in English on three educational levels. This lazy excuse of Europeans not speaking correct English is bollocks. Fist question to ask is, what is their official language? German, French. etc. English is then just an additional language. No one expects you to speak a second language perfectly but you are certainly expected to speak/write your basic language of communication well. Stop making excuses for the mediocrity in this country.

Is that what they are asking you about? Yes the Government need to do more and the people need to hold them to ransom and ensure they become more responsible to the people, but the question here is why did you turn your wife to a punching bag? and what lessons have you learnt from the experience and advise for men who beat their wives, should they continue and suffer the same fate as you if not worse or should they desist from such?
Oga remove the speck from your eyes first

Oh Yes! he might have gone to prison for his wrong doing but can we please focus on the shortcomings in the prison? What asiwajugentry is trying to tell is a pointer to exactly what is happening in all nigeria prisons, I agree that it is coming from the wrong person but I don’t think his speech should be ignored. Many people in nigeria prison are innocent, this are some people’s brothers and sisters for Yaweh’ sake? Some of this ones even hopes that one day, God will hear their cry and they will be free, some of these people are even changed, but what can we say when their lives is cut short by a govt that has refuse to do her job? This problem seriously needs be address.

  13. Bimbo

    May 17, 2017 at 10:54 am

Yes o ! Government should not involve ” theirselves ” in the pummelling of your wife ! Afterall they did not pay mercy s brideprice – you did ! How dare they stop you from beating her black and blue ? how is it their business that you cracked her skull ? When its obvious that mercy is stubborn and wont learn till you physically correct her ?
Don’t worry , you will learn this time !

It’s not your fault shebi they’ve released you.

They need to organize boys for you and crack your skull.

Useless man. He is not even sorry. If you like don’t obey the restraining order.

Society is not enough to pressure you to get married and make a wrong choice, it all depends on you. YOU ALONE.

All of you people saying he didn’t touch her, Mercy is an acting, where are you now? He’s just confessed to domestic violence, the dumdum. And he’s not in the least bit unrepentant or remorseful either, coming all preachy.
While I see his point about the lamentable state of Nigerian prisons, he clearly isn’t the right conduit for the message. Ol boy, go shore up your legal defense or you’ll be continuing your prison reform campaign from inside Kirikiri.

  17. HBT

    May 17, 2017 at 12:04 pm

#Sarcasm# His point has been noted. Government will build bigger prisons to accommodate all the men guilty of domestic violence.

The epistle of Kirikiri prison according to the Asiwaju of English. Is this what Mercy has been covering up for long?, your acting must have deluded you a lot – reality ain’t Nollywood.

Your focus should be centred on the content of his conveyed message and NOT on his grammatical contructions OK? After- all everything about LANRE used to be the best thing that ever happened to mercy before he unleashed domestic violence on her. And if she money was her reasons for meddling with him that means she is materialistic. And 98percent of YOU women are like that. To all you Money conscious goal-digging ladies like Mercy. I wish you not domestic violence, but Wild-Brutality

This man cannot even “pummel” English to save his life! “Theirselves” indeed.
Can’t imagine why women stay with men who beat them even once.
Children? No! Staying exposes them to violence and the attendant pschological trauma.

  25. Bola

    May 17, 2017 at 10:21 pm

Real BiG SHAME on him!!! Govt. shouldn’t be involved in Domestic violence??? Utter Nonsense. So men should continue going around pummeling women and getting away with homicide. He even has the guts to say it on social media….. Rubbish! They should keep him locked up with the 3600 he is trying ‘speak’ for. Imagine!!!

Why are y’all asking, so Mercy married this? Is the Mercy not razz? Even if this man was wrongly accused (which I very much doubt), his violence against written English is enough crime to send him to jail. He should have stayed longer! ?

This is what i am waiting for. You see what i want to say here is that lagos government have shot herself on the foot. This is the beginning of doom in the lagos citizens and family hood. Mercy might think she has done a great job as she was applauding those other ladies that assisted her told report the case. This is the beginning of so many violence that will before ladies in lagos.
The reason start 1. We are africans and not Americans. Mercy came from a family and lanre came from a family and as long as mercy is married into the family of lanre she is automatically a member of lanre’s family; so she take her case to the family and police for clarification. Then if nothing is done she then take it to her family before anything is done. 2. What has happen and lagos state government came into it that shows that lagos state have no respect for marriage and tradition that bind them together. While passing law Lagos government should not forget to pass a law that people can get married without the consent of their individual families.
Marriage is a very sensitive institution and should be handled with care; Lanre has made is comment and all of you are here talking of speaking the proper English language however many of you here passed your English language in one seating? Let me tell you something you don’t know that is the end of that marriage and that has spelt doom for mercy because no man would want to associate with her and no man will want his wife to associate with her and those women who took her to lagos state government will abandon her because those women are still in their husband house and they will keep her away from their daughters.

  31. Foczy J

    May 20, 2017 at 3:38 pm

Lagos state government has started digging their grave because this is the beginning of doom in Lagos marriages. Despite domestic violence law in the US the US government are looking for away to scrap it because is not producing American keeps producing irresponsible children and women are still sufferring from this domestic violence thing. Taking someone to prison will not solve the problem but make it more worse. Mercy Aigbe has dug her grave by killing herself by herself. Most of you here don’t understand lanre’s comment; he is saying the worse is about to happen i am assuming that divorce or separation will be next thing or put her into the worse emotional depression which we all know that there is nothing as worse as that while living with him in the same house Mercy will see hell if you like ladies her follow Mercy yours might be worse be wise and follow your tradition after God.
