Awww. The bride looks so gentle and classy. She did not even put her self out as Toke’s sister before we discovered. She must be confident in herself. I must say Toke too is s good sister who is happy her sister is getting married. I wish your family the very best. May you always know the peace of God.

God is awesome. I assume that is big Mummy crying. The sisters stood up for their younger sibling. The groom is handsome and most likely fun too. I see he ‘dabbed’. The alaga somebody is funny – “Kogberega, Kii shako”, he is a gentleman lol. Beautiful people all round.

I can imagine the conversation that went behind this picture:

Gbemi: Kunbi have you gotten your #Aso-ebi to Toke’s sisters wedding?
    Kunbi: Yes and you?
Gbemi: No oh… it’s expensive but I sha got the aso-oke for Gele.. Can you give me 1 yard out of yours?
Kunbi: That wouldn’t be a problem.. I’ll design something you can wear. Idea is needed.

Now, you see the bride’s sisters. They are wearing ipele as it should be worn. Ipele is worn on top of a wrapper. So it is like double George wrappers worn by the SS and SE women. What the bride has on her shoulder is Iborun (shawl, cover for the neck), it can be used as gele (scarf) or ipele (second wrapper) or oja (girdle) and vice versa for ipele, i.e. it can also be used as iborun, oja or gele. I find it odd when people keep calling Iborun by the name Ipele. I wonder if this people even speak or understand their language.

Aranmo and Isunki in Yoruba is why a letter is omitted/shrunk in writing or in pronunciation.

    Ibo/run in syllables,
    Ibo-orun in proper breakdown,
Ibo -cover, orun – neck in direct translation.

One letter ‘o’ is omitted/shrunk because it is a vowel. The Yoruba language permits merging, blending and omission of one vowel that’s near another vowel in a word.

Happy Married Life to the couple.

That’s alaari worn by we ondo people quite expensive I must say. @Ajiun

    • Ajiun

      July 19, 2017 at 9:49 pm

Alaari isn’t known for or identified with just ondo people. It is actually one of the primary colours of Aso Oke. We have green, red and blue as general primary colours. But for Aso Oke we have these three; Etu, Sanyan and Alaari. It is worn by all in Yorubaland. Remember Aso Oke are mostly woven in Oyo, Osun and Kogi.

Kai! My head swell for this one. I nearly started to cry when i saw their Big Mummy crying. May the Lord bless her and her own children abundantly. That was no easy task bringing up other people’s children and doing a good job of it. As for Toke, carry go. You and your other sister did a fabulous job. Your own is on the way and it will be Glorious.
    Congratulations to the biurriful couple!

As in! I also welled up when I saw that pic of whom I suppose is Big Mummy crying. It can’t have been easy. Big Mummy and Big Daddy are real heroes in all of this. They took in these orphaned children and did a brilliant job of carrying on where their parents left off. God bless them in abundance!
