Black stays Winning! Donald Glover, Lena Waithe make history at 2017 Emmy Awards
While the Emmy Awards is always, always special to win for anyone involved in the small screen, Sunday night’s Emmy came with extra significance for some people.
One of them was Lena Waithe, who became the first black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series, writing for “Master of None.”
The gay actress/writer in her speech thanked the LGBTQIA community for their support. “The things that make us different, they are our superpower,” she said.

Actor/writer/rapper/everything else Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, also became the first black person to ever win the Outstanding Directing In A Comedy Series award for his hit TV show “Atlanta.”
Glover thanked his parents and the writers on the show. Earlier, in a cheeky speech while accepting his award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, thanked Trump for “making black people number one on the most oppressed list.” “He’s the reason I’m probably up here,” he said.
