Mr Eazi shares Throwback Photo of himself as an Engineer

On Beat FM’s Wednesday morning “the Morning Rush“, musician Mr Eazi said he gave up a $6000 job in oil and gas because he wasn’t feeling fulfilled.

Reactions trailed his revelation, some people saying he was lying, some admiring him for his courage, while some insisted the move was insane.

Mr Eazi on Thursday shared a throwback photo of himself on an oil rig, proving that he, at least, had a job in the sector. He captioned the photo saying:

#TBT – Here i Was living an Engineers dream working at one of the worlds Biggest Oil Servicing Companies #SchlumbergerEnroute an I.M Career!

This would have led me to a successful Engineering Career But God had a different Plan! The boy was destined to touch millions of lives with Music!!! Grateful fi God #lifeiseazi

Lol..I wore that helmet as an intern as well but I’ll help his case small though. In you first year as an engineer in SLB, you were the green helmet to show you’re an entree level engineer ans still learning so top engineers can identify. If after a year you passed all necessary stages very well, you get a while helmet else you continue with a green helmet until your supervisor dims it fit. Although it still sketchy to believe Eazi after the gaffe with his LinkedIn account though.

In the other related post, you confirmed that he actually could have earned $6k /per month basic salary.
As an intern or pehaps an engineer with 2 yrs experience,do you still stand on your arguement that he earned $6k/month few years ago as a fresh 23 yrs old engineer in nigeria oil servicing company???????

      September 14, 2017 at 2:27 pm

And BN that’s not an oil rig biko, it’s a shop floor inside one of the SLB compounds in Port Harcourt. where the rig drill set up are tested and serviced before taken to for offshore jobs.

@Iyke if he was an employed engineer, it is more than possible but if he was just an intern at Schlumberger, he must have been very smart or have connections because Interns rarely go offshore and from my knowledge, interns were totally stopped from going offshore in 2012. The basic salary for interns was (maybe still is) N50,000 so he must have earned enough on bonuses to say $6,000. Like said, unless he was a fully employed engineer.

@douglas bonuses? What kinda bonuses does an intern earn to take a 50k salary to 900k ($6000×150 exchange rate in june 2010)???

people should realise that Nigerians are very knowledgeable about a wide variety of stuff and we are everywhere so coming on SM with an embellished story will be thwarted in like 5minutes after you post it in point oge okoye ,kcee and so on..our tentacles are everywhere

@Iyke stop being ignorant. Why do you think people hustle to send ensure their kids work in oil companies? Do you know how many of them are exposed to chemical and biohazards? Many are exposed to radiatons and are often seen wearing radiometers to measure their exposure so they can be withdrawn and you expect them to be paid peanuts? They’re paid what is worth their lives risk. Daily bonuses and allowances. Pray one of your own gets the job there and you would understand. lol

as a barclays intern in America you are paid upwards of $18000 (18 thousand dollars) for 10 weeks. Nonetheless a lot come back to Nigeria because they could earn more through their foreign certificates and family connections, or if they have a dream eg music or a tech startup. I’ve heard Mr Eazi’s family are well to do and own a helicopter company so he probably came home for the music thing knowing he had a family business to fall back on if music didnt work. So I don’t see what the big deal is. There’s a reason students abroad are so independent while studying and upon graduation. You are paid well for your time. Considering costs of living in major cities like New York and London, it’s no big deal.

$18k for a Barclay intern for 10 wks?where in the states pls?
And what is the basic starting salary for a banking grad in the states?

    • Teju TJ

      September 14, 2017 at 6:55 pm

Anon is right. In NY. Back in 2011, I know someone who made 15k that summer working for Barclays for 12 weeks as a technology summer intern. I made 12k that summer as an intern in Kentucky. The starting salary for Technology Analyst at barclays back in 2012 was $75k for undegrad and $85 for masters. Guys who worked for Exxon and Chevron offshore as summer interns made about 18k for 12 weeks so Eazi’s numbers are not so far fetched. Keep in mind that people going offshore are getting daily hazard pay o. Its not a small money.
You can go on glassdoor for more information on intern and entry level salaries – heck all salaries to educate yourself.

Guys, lets stop being ignorant because we want to bad belle others.

      @Teju TJ,
$75K for an ENTRY level grad Tech analyst with no experience? And $85k for masters degree holder entry grad. in 2012 in banking?
I doubt these figures…Maybe in the US but in europe,no entry graduate starts with anything above €£50k /per annum.

@iyke it’s facts. Something sounds unbelievable to your limited knowledge doesn’t make it untrue (no offence, noone knows it all especially if you’ve only lived and schooled in the same place). In England the starting salaries at top firms for law and banking graduates without accounting or law school qualifications or Masters are £30-35k. Barclays pays about £39k for graduates and over $45k in America. Even the UK Civil service pays interns £3k. It’s facts you can just Google eg websites like Glassdoor and Wikijobs.

Iyke, per my comment, these are salaries in the U.S. NY and Kentucky are in the U.S :). I have no idea what the salary in the UK is but that is how much people are making in the U.S.

LOL. At this point Mr Eazi, just shut up and get a great PR firm ok?. You’re singlehandedly knocking out your career to the ground. Okay not that deep but you’ve been doing rubbish and getting on everyone’s nerves for months now. Stop with the egomaniac interviews, stop with the King of Ghana shit, stop posting stupid throwbacks in attempt to win back the fans when you are indeed alienating them more and more. I loved you so much in 2016. I dunno what’s happening now o. Ko ye mi ra ra. Edakun who kidnapped Eazi and brought this clone to us?

I have an issue with most Nigerian artists…why are u always thanking God for what he obviously didn’t do..u’re promoting lyrics that don’t glorify God and u’re saying that’s God’s plan for u..really, really???
If u wanna be bad then be bad just don’t sit on the fence..cuz that’s the worst.

    Lol! You all sef.

Engineering interns get paid $5000-$6000. Geoscience interns get paid $7000-$8000. We are talking per month. I didn’t even include relocation. Yes, It does depend on the company. However, these ranges are for US based E&P companies. If I remember correctly, schlumberger intern salary for engineers fall between that range. I am a geoscientist, and I work with engineers.

You can check Glassdoor for more details.

Since Bella keeps swallowing my comments.

In the US, E&P engineering interns get paid about $5000/$6000/ month. Geoscience interns get paid up to $8000/month. This excludes relocation bonus that can get up to $5000. Schlumberger pays their interns about $5000-$6000 per month.

Now, salaries out side the US, I can’t vouch for.

I find it so hilarious that Mr Eazi feels the need to post this.. Oh well, we won’t believe until you show us the payslips and the HR that gave them to you confirms it… ??

It’s very possible. I earned $2700 per month in chevron as a junior design engineer on contract in 2013. No site visit oo. So if he’s offshore he possibly earns more. Sometimes if you are lucky or connected you can earn more than your colleagues. For example my friend was an entry level engineer on egina project as a stress analysis guy. He was earning more than some intermediate engineers on the same project. He was doing about 1m per month fresh from school. I’m talking about Lekki Nigeria oo
