BellaNaija is always looking for ways to empower and uplift women. We sometimes do this by drawing your attention to conferences aimed to inspire women, or sharing articles to aid their growth.

Based on this, we’ve got something interesting for all our sisters who love tech and reside in Lagos. We’ve partnered with Girls Love Tech to bring this opportunity to you.

Girls Love Tech is a nonprofit organization that aims to educate, build, and support outstanding females to become leaders in technology is offering free technology education programs for unemployed females.

The growth of technology in Africa is glaring, yet women are being left behind in terms of awareness, education, and opportunities.

According to Disrupt African Tech Startups Funding Report 2016, African tech startups raised up to $129m in funding, which was 16.8% more than was raised in 2015. Yet, females represent less than 11% of the African technology workforce.

Girls Love Tech believes that it can tackle this gender gap problem that exists in an industry filled with numerous opportunities, by offering free technology education and career building services to females with high potential to become industry leaders.

The organization has created a weekend-only program, designed to source unemployed graduate females, train them, and place them in active employment, upon successful completion.

Your level of technical knowledge may vary from beginner to advanced, as long as you have a strong enough interest in technology to be able to commit to being employed for a role in the industry.

As there is guaranteed employment Aella Credit, Travelbeta, 200ok Solutions and Intelia have partnered with Girls Love Tech on this initiative.

There is no age limit, as long as the individual is a graduate or on an equivalent level.

This program consists of four steps:

The assessment is online: You can access the form here.

Career Mapping: If a candidate has been successfully screened, and exhibits high potential to be successful in the companies/roles outlined, they have a one-on-one session with an industry expert to discuss possible career options and map out their training schedule accordingly.

Training: All technical courses are fully online, so that candidates can access them remotely. They are paired with an instructor who they can reach for coaching and questions. At different points during the training, there are group classes held offline, in the locations Workstation, VI and Travelbeta, Ikeja. These are all on weekends to ensure availability.

Employment: Having completed the training (15 – 16 weeks), candidates are matched to technology companies. If interested, they become GLT ambassadors to help train and teach new incoming candidates.

*Currently available to Lagos residents only. All services are completely FREE.

I tick all the boxes, except that I am in Abuja. I’ve been checking Google for such opportunity. But I no dey Lagos so my future just gon’ pass me eh? The day these people will stop focusing on Lagos only will be a day of thanksgiving. There is a large number of people in Abuja, PHC, etc waiting for things like this. But everything Lagos. Lagos Lagos Lagos. Like it is sheep and goats that live in the rest of the country.

If you really want the opportunity, you will go and meet it in Lagos instead of waiting for it to be ABJ’s turn. Squat with someone in Lagos if you can and grab the opportunity by the horn.

Don’t let distance be a barrier to what you want to do. I used to drive for one hour to an internship. It would have been 2hours, but I squatted with a friend so that reduced it to one hour. Also don’t let the requirements stop you from applying. What’s the worst that could happen? Will they come and beat you? ?

That’s the mistake I made all these years and now at the age of 28 it’s like am just starting to learn about it, I got opportunities to get jobs in IT but lack of practical knowledge stopped me(My dear degree is not enough). I am currently working as Front desk in a bank, wish I knew all these years.
