Tsemaye Binitie, a contemporary fashion label characterized by exquisite clothing that combines functionality with timeless pieces will reveal its ‘Footballmania‘ collection at the show. The collection inspired by a collection of pictures entitled ‘The Hyena and Other Men’ the 2008 work of Pieter Hugo. Speaking about the fashion show, Tsemaye said, “I was struck first by a ‘sport’ I never even knew existed in my own country. These men, a little girl and their handful of animals are known locally as the Gadawan Kura, they subsist by staging performances that allow them to sell traditional medicine. What stood out to me from Peter’s images after the intrigue was the fashion. I found it interesting how the group mixed modern sports ‘bend down and pick’ (recycled clothing) with traditional attire, chains, and straw. For the collection, it was important to take elements of their lifestyle and their way of dressing into consideration to really create a group of clothing that evokes a sense of nostalgia. Reclaimed denim, up-cycled Super Eagles jersey’s, Crochet tassels and ‘Trad’ inspired pieces to come together to create a collection that’s emotive and takes you on a journey of discovery to the Gadawan Kura”. His collection amongst others will be showcased at the COPA Lagos fashion show this Saturday, December 29th,2017 by 8:30 PM at the Eko Atlantic City.
This year’s edition of COPA Lagos is set to be the most exciting ever, with many fan zone activities, gifts, kids play area and parties. Tickets to the three-day event are available on Ariiya tickets, Afritickets, Nairabox, FCMB branches and Eko Hotels.
